2 About the Organisers The Malta Forum for Internal Auditors is a not-for-profit organisation, set up by local professionals in the field to promote awareness about the role of internal auditing in the local business and nonbusiness community, to support education about the profession and to provide appropriate networking opportunities for both peers and professionals in the field, students and executives. 4 Speaker Profiles & Session Abstracts THE EVOLUTION OF DATA ANALYTICS IN THE INTERNAL AUDIT PROFESSION Mr Gordon Micallef Director, RSM Malta SESSION ABSTRACT The first session will briefly deal with how data analytics has evolved in the internal audit profession, and why more recent developments in technologies have significantly impacted the profession and the effective use of data in an organisation s control environment. We will proceed to explore the role that data analytics practices play in the profession today and why the drive for improved use of data analytics is pushing the internal auditor to a more proactive role to take faster and better decisions, and deliver deeper insight and greater value to the organisation. Further considerations will be discussed to assess how data analytics will continue to evolve in the near future and how it will continue to shape the profession. SPEAKER PROFILE Gordon Micallef is a Director at RSM in Malta responsible for Business and Technology Consulting services. He has over 14 years experience delivering IT assurance and IT consulting services. Gordon specialises in technology consulting services were he directs and manages a multidisciplinary team delivering process improvement, risk management and project management services across various industries. He has extensive experience in helping organisations bridge the gap between business and IT, manage the change and deliver digital transformation. Gordon was one of the founders of the ISACA Malta Chapter and served as President of the Chapter for a number of years. He also served on several committees and task forces for ISACA International including global chapter oversight, leadership conferences and EuroCACS. Gordon is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC).

5 DATA, THE CURRENCY OF THE NEW BUSINESS Mr Stephen Camilleri Business Intelligence Manager, GO Plc SESSION ABSTRACT For modern businesses which are operating in highly competitive and regulated environments and which are being squeezed on all sides by increasingly sophisticated customer demands, leaner agile competition, disruptive technologies and often suffocating regulation, managing the right profit margin is both an artistic and a scientific endeavour. In this new kind of reality, Data has become the new currency. The skills to manage, understand, collect, process and interpret every possible scrap of Data has become as important as the balance sheet. Indeed, achieving one without the other can be challenging. This session will illustrate some of the realities and challenges encountered in translating Data to information and actionable intelligence. The presentation will go through a number of real world examples to demonstrate how accurate business understanding, foresight and ability to manage, manipulate and analyse Data are important in this quest for the bottom line. SPEAKER PROFILE Stephen is an ICT specialist, an engineer by profession, specialised in Data Communication Systems and Networks. He started his career in IT at Air Malta after a two year stint in electronics maintenance and design. In 2000 he joined the local telco GO (then Maltacom) as the Senior Operations Manager responsible for Broadband Rollout, Data Services and Internet Connectivity. Since 2007, Stephen has shifted his focus from Data Plumbing to Data Insight and Data Analysis. Applying his numerical, IT and data skills and experience of the communications market, he is the Business Intelligence Manager responsible for Internal Analytics and Market Research activities within GO.

6 THE MAGIC OF ANALYTICS Mr John Wallhoff Senior Advisor, Scillani Information AB SESSION ABSTRACT In the world of emerging digitalisation, GRC specialists need to understand and adopt data as a native language. It is not about Big Data, it is about Your Data in your environment, your challenges and your objectives. This presentation will take you from the basic use of Analytics, to controls testing and continuous monitoring. The session will guide you through the three phases Create Play Visualise. It will put an emphasis on methodologies and frameworks to structure work related to Analytics. We will also engage the audience to reflect upon practical cases to gain insight on techniques related to Analytics. This presentation will use input from real life experience. It will start at beginner level and end at intermediate level, where we will cover the use of software and services from desktop spreadsheet applications to online services that can do magic with the numbers. At the bottom line, it is simply the Magic of Analytics. SPEAKER PROFILE John is a Senior Advisor with specialisation in Fraud & Corruption, Analytics, Information & Cyber Security and IT Service Management. For the past 12 years he has been working in Scillani Information AB (founder), based in Sweden but working with clients all over Europe. With his background as an IT auditor at one of the big four audit firms, John has gained practical experience in the field of Analytics and has since then continued to use Analytics as one major skill set in his work.
