L&T's shiplift control and monitoring system is based on PLCs with a high degree of in-built reliability. The system comprises selfpropelled, electro-hydraulically operated heavy-duty trolleys, trestles and a dedicated control system for controlling and monitoring the hydraulic system and load distribution in each trolley during operations. The in-built self-indexing feature allows automatic synchronized 90- degree change in direction of hydraulic trolleys, enabling longitudinal as well as transverse movement of the ship. 8 9
