6 Industrie 4.0 What does it mean? The term Industrie 4.0 is a play on words consisting of 3 parts. First Industrie indicates that this initiative is dedicated to industry. Second,.0 references the internet technology and intends to create the association with Web 1.0, Web 2.0, Web 3.0, Web technology. Third, the 4 stands for the 4th industrial revolution and aims at reaching a new level of industrial value added chains covering the whole product lifecycle. 7 Industrie 4.0 its Industrial Perspective Industrie 4.0 refers the 4th industrial revolution and aims at new value added chains covering the whole product lifecycle. The technological approach is the use of so-called Cyber-Physical Systems, which comprise modern control sysetms containing embedded systems equiped with a communication unit. Applying this approach, future products and production equipment are enabled to be logically interlinked and become able to commuinicate. 21. 28 Conclusions Industrie 4.0 is a key initiative of the German hightech strategy supported by the German government and to be implemented by industry. Key strategy of Industrie 4.0 is the creation of new innovation for smart systems such as smart products, smart production systems, smart logistics or smart grids based on the integration of internet based communication and embedded control software to ensure sustainablity and environmental soundness. Future research activities will also need to address - safety, security, privacy and knowledge protection, - new business models as well as - human factors impact New advanced engineering methods are required to support the developemnt of smart products able to self-control their functionality and to communicate with other smart systems as well as with humans. Industrie 4.0 is a fascinating technology and each enterprise has to decide whether and if so how to implement Industrie 4.0. Folie 28
