2. Major Technical Advantages
MAJOR TECHNICAL ADVANTAGES OF ALP SYSTEM DUCTS vs TRADITIONAL SHEET METAL DUCTS ALP SYSTEM allows the fabrication of HVAC ductwork using factory made aluminum / polyurethane sandwich panels and specific accessories. Fast to fabricate and easy to install, ALP SYSTEM pre-insulated ductwork can be adapted to meet every needs in HVAC installations. ALP SYSTEM pre-insulated ductwork are extremely light weight, about 10 times lighter than steel ducting, offering top performances with very long durability, energy saving, high rated insulation and negligible air leakage, without loosing anything in terms of safety, hygiene and fire resistance. ALP SYSTEM pre-insulated ductwork can be installed either outdoor or indoor providing, when exposed, a fine external finish. ALP SYSTEM pre-insulated ductwork can be installed in almost any HVAC sector, from residential to commercial, from food processing and electronics to pharmaceutical industries and hospitals; ALP SYSTEM is definitively the ideal solution for any HVAC installation. ALP SYSTEM pre-insulated ductwork comply with the strict national and international standards for these types of products and comply with all the international installation standards, such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, DW, etc. Compared to the traditional sheet-metal ductwork, ALP System pre-insulated ductwork present many advantages; the major are the following: DUCTWORK Long durability (long life of the installation) The main advantage that has made of ALP System ductwork an innovative and successful product is surely their durability, their long life. Their characteristics of stability and immutability, both physical and dimensional, derive from the unique properties of the insulating foam produced by ALP in combination with the typical properties of the aluminum. ALP System ductwork can grant excellent working performances for more than 20 years. On the contrary, traditional sheet-metal ductwork surely get rusted during the years; indeed, the thin zinc layer that protects the duct against rust gets unavoidably damaged during the fabrication and the installation operations, offering thus a number of starting points to the oxidation process. There is no guarantee at all that sheet-metal ductwork will not get rusted. ALP System can grant it!
Best air quality (total absence of rust) The use of aluminum, a well-known non-toxic material with high resistance to corrosion, assures the preservation of the purity of the supplied air. This is the reason why ALP System ductwork can be easily installed in those projects where sheet-metal ductwork is rejected and replaced by Stainless Steel ductwork, i.e. Food Industries, Pharma Industries, Clean Rooms and Hospitals. Lightweight - I ALP System ductwork are extremely light in weight, from 4 up to 10 times lighter than sheet-metal ductwork. Handling and installing ALP System ductwork entails consequently the following advantages: - saving of labour time in fabrication - saving of labour time in installation / erection - saving in transportation - saving in consumption of hangers and supports (thinner and less quantity) - saving in equipment required for high levels installation (no need of heavy equipment) - safer work when installation is done at high levels from ground Lightweight - II (Reduction of loads on structures) Another advantage of ALP System ductwork in relation to its lightness is the considerable reduction of the loads on structures that derives from its use. This characteristic is very important for HVAC installations in those projects, such as pre-engineered steel buildings, tents, etc., where the building structure is light and where the weight of A/C ductwork, usually hanged to the roof structure, is really a critical issue. Best air tightness The special fabrication method of ALP System ductwork grants a totally sealed ductwork; on the contrary, sheet-metal ductwork present longitudinal seams that need to be sealed in order to grant air tightness. Furthermore, the exclusive ALP joint system, carried out by means of patented aluminum profiles and flexible gaskets, grants the installation an excellent air tightness, by reducing to a minimum any possibility of air loss. In case of specific project requirements, especially in laboratories or clean rooms, the ALP System ducts can assure total air tightness thanks to the simple adoption of specific installation procedures. Outdoor application (ductwork already provided with cladding) For installation outdoor, when insulated, metal-sheet ductwork require cladding. ALP System is provided with a built-in cladding granted by the thick aluminum foil covering the insulation foam. This allows the outdoor installation of ALP System ductwork without the need of additional materials and works, then: - saving in materials cost (no cladding is required) - saving in labour cost
Resistant to salty atmosphere ALP System is made with aluminum. The use of aluminum, a material with high resistance to corrosion, assures the integrity of the ductwork against the aggressive action of salty atmosphere. This characteristic is very important for those installations close to the sea. Easy selection (just 3 panels to cover any installation requirement) For the fabrication of G.I. ductwork it is necessary to operate a selection of the proper G.I sheet among a number of available sheets with different thicknesses (0,6 or 0,7 or 0,8 or 0,9 or 1,0 or 1,2 mm) also considering the following variables: - size of the duct - operating pressure The high number of possible combinations makes the possibility of mistakes from the Fabricator very high. On the contrary, ALP System can cover any installation requirement with only 3 types of panels for the fabrication of ductwork: - Panel ALP100RF indicated for INDOOR installation Panel thickness: 21 mm Aluminum foil thickness: internal - 80 micron external - 80 micron - Panel ALP200RF indicated for MACHINE ROOM installation Panel thickness: 21 mm Aluminum foil thickness: internal - 80 micron external micron - Panel ALP230RF indicated for OUTDOOR installation Panel thickness: 30 mm Aluminum foil thickness: internal - 80 micron external micron Thanks to this simple diversification, ALP System reduces the possibility of mistakes in fabrication, and the Quality Control, carried out either at the Ductshop or at the Site, becomes extremely simple and fast. Easy to fabricate directly at the site (no need of electric tools) Another great advantage of ALP System is its flexibility. The use of few tools and equipment, which do not require any electric power, for the fabrication of ALP System ductwork gives the Fabricator the possibility to carry out the fabrication of the ductwork directly at the site. This option grants: - more accurate job, thanks to the possibility of immediately verifying the conditions at the site, - faster execution in case some modifications are needed
Reduction of transportation costs The possibility of arranging the fabrication of ALP System ductwork directly at the site allows to optimize transportation by conveying flat panels instead of cumbersome fabricated ductwork to the site, granting significant savings in transportation costs. INSULATION In HVAC installations, the insulation of the ductwork is carried out by applying an insulating material outside the ductwork. The most used insulation material in HVAC field is Glasswool. Apart the cost of the material itself, additional works are required to install the insulation outside the ductwork and then to insulate the joint after the installation. On the contrary, in ALP System the insulation is an integral element of the ductwork structure, this is the reason why ALP System is known as the preinsulated ductwork. With this pre-insulated ductwork ALP System has introduced a revolutionary concept in HVAC field. Insulation in ALP System is granted by the polyurethane foam board, expanded with a CFC-HCFC-HFC FREE blowing agent. Talking about insulation the advantages of the ALP System pre-insulated ductwork are the following: Duct already insulated No additional work is required to insulate the duct and to insulate the joints after the installation, then: - reducing labour time in fabrication Best insulation material The insulation value of ALP System panels is definitely better in comparison with the value of any other products traditionally used for the insulation of HVAC ducts. Polyurethane is known to be the best insulating material available in the market. The same insulation value of 50 mm thick glasswool can be easily achieved by about 20 mm of polyurethane foam. Long durability One of the major problems of glasswool is its durability, as the thickness reduces with the passing of time. On the contrary, the rigid polyurethane is extremely stable. The close cells of the rigid polyurethane foam and its particular chemical structure grant stability and insulation performances for a long period of time, i.e. for more than 20 years.
Even insulation around the ductwork In ALP System ductwork the insulation turns out to be continuous and steady in all points of the duct, especially on the corners where glasswool is normally squeezed to a minimum thickness, then loosing its insulation properties. Glasswool insulation ALP System Pre-insulated Reduced overall dimensions The small thickness of the ALP System insulation allows the installation of ALP System ductwork directly under the ceiling. This gives the possibility to reduce to a minimum the height of the false ceiling. Excellent moisture resistance The close cell structure of the polyurethane foam grants an excellent resistance to moisture absorption. Furthermore, the thick aluminum foil covering the ALP System panels acts as a vapour barrier. No fiber release (total Indoor Air Quality) Contrary to what happens in glasswool, the polyurethane foam does not release any fiber. The fibers released by the glasswool can contaminate the ambient air, creating health problems to the occupants of the building or damaging/affecting industrial manufacturing processes.
