1 Submitta MSDS Guide Specifications Description Knauf 1000 Pipe Insuation is a moded, heavy-density, one-piece insuation made from inorganic gass fibers bonded with a thermosetting resin. It is produced in 3' engths with or without a factory-appied jacket. The jacket is a white kraft paper bonded to auminum foi, and it is reinforced with a fibergass scrim. The ongitudina ap of the jacket is avaiabe with or without a sef-seaing adhesive, and a butt strip is furnished for each section. Precautions Hot Pipe May be instaed whie the system is in operation, at a temperatures up to 1000 F (538 C). Knauf recommends, for insuation thicknesses greater than 6" (152 mm), the temperature must be increased from 500 F (260 C) to maximum temperature at a rate not exceeding 100 F (56 C) per hour. During initia heat-up to operating temperatures above 350 F (177 C), a sight odor and some smoke may be given off as a portion of the bonding materia used in the insuation begins to undergo a controed decomposition. If natura convection is not adequate in confined areas, forced ventiation shoud be provided in order to protect against any harmfu fumes and vapors that might be generated. Care must aso be taken when using seaants, sovents, or fammabe adhesives during instaation. Cod Pipe Use a continuous vapor retarder on piping operating beow ambient temperatures.

4 Sea a joints, surfaces, seams, and fittings to prevent condensation. On beow freezing appications and, in high abuse areas, the ASJ jacket sha be protected with a PVC vapor retarding outer jacket. In addition, exposed ends of insuation sha be seaed with vapor barrier mastic instaed per the mastic manufacturer's instructions. Vapor seas at butt joints sha be appied at every fourth pipe section joint and at each fitting to isoate any water incursion. On chied water systems operating in high humidity conditions, it is recommended that the same guideines be foowed as isted above for beow freezing appications. Exterior hanger supports are recommended. Outside Appication Do not expose pipe insuation to weather. It must be covered with appropriate jacketing, mastic, or vapor retardant adhesives. A exposed surfaces must be protected. Proto Indoor/Outdoor PVC Jacketing is recommended. See Knauf Guide Specifications for recommended PVC jacketing appication guideines. Appy jacketing, mastics or vapor retardant adhesives per manufacturer's instructions. For metaic jackets, factory-appied and condensate retarders are recommended. ASJ-SSL Keep adhesive and contact surfaces free from dirt and water, and immediatey sea once adhesive is exposed. Appy when ambient and insuation outer-surface temperatures are between 0 F and 130 F (-18 C and 54 C). If stored beow 0 F or above 130 F, aow insuation cartons to stand within recommended temperature range for 24 hours prior to appication. Do not store product beow -20 F (-29 C) or above 150 F (66 C). When using Knauf's SSL cosure system, make sure the ongitudina and circumferentia joints are propery seaed by rubbing the cosure firmy with a squeegee. Use of stapes is not recommended. When using Knauf SSL Pipe Insuation, the outer-surface temperature of the insuation shoud be between -20 F and 150 F (-29 C and 66 C) during the ife of the insuation. Fittings and Hangers Use Proto 25/50-Rated (ASTM E 84) PVC Fitting Covers, appying PVC fittings per Proto's Data Sheet. Fittings shoud be insuated to same thicknesss and R-vaue as the adjoining insuation. Appy fittings per manufacturer's instructions. When required by specification, a hard insert of sufficient ength shoud be used to avoid insuation compression. Additiona Precautions Fiber gass may cause temporary skin irritation. Wear ong-seeved, oose-fitting cothing, head covering, goves, and eye protection when handing and appying materia. Wash with soap and warm water after handing. Wash work cothes separatey and rinse washer. Use a disposabe mask/respirator designed for nuisance-type dusts where sensitivity to dust and airborne partices may cause irritation to the nose or throat. Appication Guideines Storage

5 Protect insuation from water damage or other abuse, weding sparks and open fame. Cartons are not designed for outside storage. Preparation Appy ony on cean, dry surfaces. Pipe or vesse shoud be tested and reeased before insuation is appied. Genera Guideines A sections shoud be firmy butted. Sea circumferentia joint with a minimum 3" (76 mm) wide butt-strip. Jackets, coatings, and adhesives shoud have a comparabe F.H.C. rating. Factory-appied jacket can be painted with atex or water-based paint. Sovent based paints shoud not be used. Do not expose factory-appied jacket to chemicas or iquid water. A piping shoud have continuous insuation. Position ongitudina ap downward to avoid dirt and moisture infitration. Do not expose pipe insuation to excessive physica abuse. Faced insuation shoud not have a facing temperature above 150 F (66 C).
