3 As the UK s largest producer of solar photovoltaic (PV) products, we have an unmatched depth of knowledge gained from years of industry experience. More recently we have combined that experience with our unique approach to glass processing and the result is a game-changing series of innovative new products and applications that push the boundaries of design and technology. When looking at the complex structure of the stylish glazing at London s King Cross Station it is difficult to comprehend that you are looking at BIPV building integrated photovoltaic technology pioneered by Romag. Each of the 1,392 glass laminate units at Kings Cross were hand crafted to incorporate powerful PV cells which were incorporated into the external envelope of the building, substituting standard glass roof lights. Our high performance products are dual purpose; they are of the highest quality, are aesthetically pleasing and they generate clean energy enabling our customers to fulfil their carbon reduction obligations. Precision Our design team at Romag have shaken up the national house-building market with a radical departure from the conventional building-applied array of solar panels resting on a roof structure. As well as saving 100 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, they admit light and most importantly respect the Grade 1 listed building s heritage. The car park roof at the London Olympics site now doubles as a solar power plant, producing renewable clean energy from the sun thanks to bespoke PV provided by Romag. Romag manufactured 616 square meters of high quality solar PV panels with a self-cleaning coating which were installed above the NCP car park to produce an estimated 67 MWh of green electricity each year. 7 As a passenger on the new Super Express trains traversing the Great Western or East Coast main lines, you will be able to survey the passing scenery clearly and safely through windows we make in the North East. Furthermore, take comfort that drivers of the new Crossrail trains will sit safely behind Romag manufactured windscreens. To see performance, precision and protection in action now, just take a closer look at an approaching Tube train. Its windscreen is typical of the way we make glass to conform to incredibly demanding parameters in contours, composition and quality. We make the protective glass for the headlights too. Adhering to strict on-time delivery schedules of the completed screens, we won a further contract for the windscreens for an additional 130 trains for the Crossrail project using Bombardier s new Aventra train platform. Bespoke Although our transport solutions are made to fit customers designs, bespoke doesn t always mean small quantities. We are set to produce 13,514 double-glazed side windows for 886 carriages for the 65 trains that will run on the East Coast and Great Western main lines. Glass that goes the distance into the future Our technical design team has the specialist experience and know-how to keep pace with transportation innovation and we take manufacturers exacting new specifications on board to develop the very best solution, doing so, Romag has competed for and won design and build contracts with world leading manufacturers including Hitachi Rail Europe and Bombardier. Complex The windscreens on Bombardier s latest London tube trains have an incredibly complex curved profile. It took five months for us to develop the tooling to build and bend them, layer by laminated layer and over 30 different impact tests to prove their resistance and resilience. Quality To withstand impact without shattering, train glass is laminated with plastic layers which become transparent when the assembly is heated in the laminating furnace. Such are the stresses on a Hitachi Class 800/801 train s windscreen at 170 mph that a mere 0.3mm speck of dust within the glass will endanger its integrity. Hence we have a suite of temperature and humidity controlled clean rooms to ensure glass laminates are of the purest quality - every time.

8 Glass at the cutting edge of design If you look at 21st century architecture in comparison to centuries and millennia of building design, one dominant theme emerges; gone are elaborate carvings in limestone and clunky buildings of granite in favour of the bold, sleek and elaborate use of glass. Our advanced screen printing facility can reproduce any design or colour in ceramic ink that is fused into the surface of heat strengthened glass. An example of this technology in situ is the leafy canopy installed by Romag at central Manchester s Deansgate-Castlefield tram station. It consisted of an artistic image printed on to curved glass panels to echo the station s new green theme and is a stunning representation of the kind of creative work in glass Romag offer. Harmony Romag produce glass that not only looks visually appealing, but is environmentally friendly. With the use of Romag BIPV laminated glass, the possibilities for design are limitless. Approach Kingsgate House in Chelsea and its clear why it won an award for the Best Affordable Housing Scheme in the recent 24Housing awards and Romag played a key role. The cascade of stunning louvres running down its seven storeys are designed to look like a living wall. Composed of Romag BIPV laminated glass manufactured to a bespoke design, they incorporate three shades of gold and green PV cells to blend effortlessly with the tree-lined environment with the added benefit of generating clean energy for the building.
