(ICC-ES), are based upon performance features of the International Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code, International Residential Code, Uniform Plumbing Code and Uniform Mechanical Code. Section of the International Plumbing Code reads as follows: Alternative materials, methods and equipment. The provisions of this code are not intended to prevent the installation of any material or to prohibit any method of construction not specifically prescribed by this code, provided that any such alternative has been approved. An alternative material or method of construction shall be approved where the code official finds that the proposed design is satisfactory and complies with the intent of the provisions of this code, and that the material, method or work offered is, for the purpose intended, at least the equivalent of that prescribed in this code in quality, strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, durability and safety. Similar provisions are contained in the Uniform Codes. ICC-ES may consider alternate listing criteria, provided the listing applicant submits valid data demonstrating that the alternate listing criteria are at least equivalent to the listing criteria set forth in this document, and otherwise demonstrate compliance with the performance features of the codes. Notwithstanding that a product, material, or type or method of construction meets the requirements of the criteria set forth in this document, or that it can be demonstrated that valid alternate criteria are equivalent to the criteria in this document and otherwise demonstrate compliance with the performance features of the codes, ICC-ES retains the right to refuse to issue or renew a listing, if the product, material, or type or method of construction is such that either unusual care with its installation or use must be exercised for satisfactory performance, or if malfunctioning is apt to cause unreasonable property damage or personal injury or sickness relative to the benefits to be achieved by the use of the product, material, or type or method of construction. Listing criteria are developed solely for use by ICC-ES for purposes of issuing ICC-ES PMG listings. Copyright 2012

2 and Radiant Heating Systems Page 2 of INTRODUCTION 1.1 Purpose: The purpose of this listing criteria is to establish requirements for press-connection fitting systems to be recognized in an ICC Evaluation Service, Inc. (ICC-ES) listing. 1.2 Scope: This listing criteria is intended to establish minimum criteria for the listing of pressconnection fittings used to join copper tubing, stainless steel pipe and carbon steel pipe materials. Pressconnection fittings are used for aboveground only potable water distribution piping and radiant heat piping conforming to the IPC, IMC, UPC, IPC and IRC. This criteria is not intended to be used for evaluation of fittings intended for embedment in a solid material such as concrete. 1. Codes and Referenced Standards: Note: Any standard referenced herein shall be the current edition of that standard. Loss of pressure resulting from leakage through the connection or body of the specimen under test. A product or connection has leaked when the test or working pressure cannot be held, and the media is evidenced outside of the fitting or connection. b. The escape of media through a breach or flaw. c. Rupture of a fitting or separation of a fitting joint Press-connection Fitting: A type of fitting that is directly attached to tube or fittings by mechanical deformation of the tube/pipe or fitting, or combination thereof, with a fitting manufacturer approved pressing tool, creating a seal and a restrained connection. These fittings typically include an elastomeric seal and may incorporate a corrosion-resistant mechanical grip ring. 2.0 BASIC INFORMATION 2.1 Product Description: Complete information shall be submitted concerning material specifications, thickness, size and the manufacturing process. 2.2 Installation Instructions: Product shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and the requirements of the applicable codes and reference standards in Section 1..

Product and Packaging Identification: The unit and the package shall be permanently and legibly marked with the manufacturer's name or trademark, and the model number. The product shall also bear the PMG listing mark. The ICC-ES listing number shall be placed on the listed product's packaging or installation instructions..0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS.1 General:.1.1 Copper tubing shall comply with ASTM B 88. Fitting sockets for copper press-connection fittings shall have tolerances for accepting copper tubing conforming to ASTM B 88. Street connections for copper press-connection fittings shall have tolerance for copper tubing complying with ASTM B Steel and wrought-iron pipe shall comply with either ASME B6.10, ASTM A 5 or ASTM A 106. Fitting connections for press-connection fittings shall have tolerance for intended connecting piping system..1. Stainless Steel pipe shall comply with ASTM A 12. Fitting connections for press-connection fittings shall have tolerance for intended connecting piping system..1.4 Stainless steel tube shall conform dimensionally to ASTM B 88 and have material composition conforming to ASTM A 12, ASTM A 554 or ASTM A Press-connections shall be made using tools specified by the fitting manufacturer. Tools used for making connections shall be calibrated prior to sample preparation.. Threaded ends on press-connection fittings shall have pipe threads conforming to ASME B Fittings for use with potable water, including the sealing rings, shall be listed as conforming to NSF Press-connection Fittings:

5 and Radiant Heating Systems Page 5 of Copper or brass press-connection fittings shall be tested to the requirements specified in Section 4 or IAPMO PS 117. Each test specified in Sections 4.1, 4. and 4.5 through 4.8 shall be conducted on both Type M and Type K copper tube. The Bend Test noted in Section 4.4 shall be conducted using Type M copper tube only. The Thermal Cycling test noted in Section 4.2 shall be conducted with Type L copper tube only. If recognition is desired for use with annealed (soft) copper tube, results of tests using annealed copper tube shall also be provided..5.2 Steel and steel alloy press-connection fittings shall be tested to the requirements specified in Section 4 or IAPMO PS 117 with the intended type of pipe to which the fitting will be joined to. 4.0 TEST METHOD AND PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Hydrostatic Pressure Test: For each tubing or pipe material, two of the smallest fitting sizes and two of the largest fitting sizes shall be assembled as shown in Figure 1. An extensometer, strain gauge or equivalent device shall be installed on either side of the press-connection fitting to measure the displacement distance. The sample shall not be restrained in the test assembly. The sample shall be filled with water and tested at the pressure, temperature and duration specified in Table 1. During the first hour, the maximum slippage of each press-connection joint shall be as specified in Table 1. The maximum additional slippage after the first hour shall not exceed the distance specified in Table 1. The condition of acceptance is that no failure shall occur over the duration of the test. 4.2 Thermal Cycling Test: Sample assemblies shall be thermal-cycle tested by the method defined in Section or Flow Loop: One assembly each of the smallest and largest fitting size shall be tested by temperature cycling from 7.4 F ±.6 F (2 C ± 2 C) to 180 F ±.6 F (82 C ± 2 C). A flow of water through the assembly at a pressure of 200 ± 5 psi (179 ± 5 kpa), with the water at the lower temperature, shall take place through the fitting for a minimum of five minutes; then shall be replaced by a flow of the higher temperature water, maintained for 15 minutes, and repeated. This constitutes one cycle. The process shall be continued for 5000 cycles. The test assembly shall be fabricated as shown in

6 and Radiant Heating Systems Page 6 of 1 Figures 2 and as appropriate for the fitting size being tested, using the components shown. The temperature of the fitting assembly shall reach the target temperature within a maximum of two minutes of the water temperature s changing. The condition of acceptance is that no failure shall occur over the duration of the test Air-under-water: One assembly of each size shall be tested by temperature cycling from 60 F ±.6 F (16 C ± 2 C) to 180 F ±.6 F (82 C ± 2 C). Each assembly shall consist of at least six joints, randomly selected, with suitable lengths of tubing or pipe, attached to a common manifold. The tubing shall have a minimum length of 4 inches (100 mm), or at least three times the nominal size, whichever is greater. Assembly shall be in accordance with the instructions of the fitting manufacturer. The open ends of the assemblies are sealed with any suitable end closures that allow free-end mounting and that will not leak under the thermal cycling conditions. The manifold is connected to a nitrogen or air pressure source and the assemblies are pressurized to 100 ± 10 psi (689 ± 69 kpa) and immersed in water at a temperature of 60 F ±.6 F (16 C ± 2 C). The pressurized samples are checked for visible leaks. If no leaks are visible, the test cycle is started. One complete cycle shall consist of immersion in water at 180 F ±.6 F (82 C ± 2 C) for 125 seconds ± 5 seconds, air immersion at ambient temperature for 115 seconds ± 5 seconds, immersion in water at 60 F ±.6 F (16 C ± 2 C) for 125 seconds ± 5 seconds, and air immersion at ambient temperature for 115 seconds ± 5 seconds. This cycle shall be repeated 1000 times. Upon completion of the 1000 thermal cycles, the specimen assemblies are immersed again in 60 F ±.6 F (16 C ± 2 C) water and checked for any sign of gas leakage. Any visual evidence of leakage at the fitting joints or separation from the tubing or pipe shall constitute failure. 4. Hydraulic Shock (Water Hammer) Test: For each tubing or pipe material, two of the smallest size fittings and two of the largest size fittings shall be assembled and tested by filling with water at 68 ± 6 F (20 ± C). The items under test shall be hydraulically shocked for 10,000 cycles. A hydraulic shock cycle shall consist of starting at atmospheric pressure, a sudden increase in pressure within 0.01 second to 400 ± 29 psi (2759 ± 200 kpa), (e.g., the closure of a solenoid valve on a washing machine), and a return to atmospheric pressure. The condition of acceptance is that no failure shall occur over the

7 and Radiant Heating Systems Page 7 of 1 duration of the test. 4.4 Bending Test: Test assemblies using the smallest and two of the largest fittings shall be fabricated. Each assembly shall consist of a straight coupling with internal stop, assembled in the center of the span as shown in Figure 2 with a straight pipe or tubing at both ends. Each assembly shall be filled with water at room temperature, and pressure shall be maintained at 200 ± 5 psi (179 ± 4 kpa) for a duration of one hour. The assembly shall be centered between supports spaced 6 feet (1829 mm) apart. Condition of acceptance is that no failure shall occur over the duration of the test. 4.5 Vibration Test: For each tubing or pipe material, one assembly comprised of the smallest size fitting and one assembly comprised of the largest size fitting shall be fabricated. Each of the test assemblies shall be fabricated using five lengths of tubing, two couplings and two elbows similar to that shown in Figure. The assembly shall be filled with water at a pressure of 200 psi (1.45 MPa) and a temperature of 68 ± 6 F (20 ± C). The assembly shall then be subjected to vibration with a forward and reverse movement and frequency as specified in Table. After the vibration cycling, each assembly shall be hydrostatically pressure tested as specified in Table 4. Condition of acceptance is that no failure shall occur during the duration of the tests. 4.6 Vacuum Test: For each tubing or pipe material, two of the smallest size fittings and two of the largest size fittings shall be assembled with two lengths of pipe or tubing. The fittings shall be subjected to a vacuum pressure, at a temperature and duration as specified in Table 5. The assembly shall be isolated and the vacuum pressure monitored for the duration specified in Table 5. The maximum change in vacuum during the testing shall be as specified in Table 5. The condition of acceptance is that the fitting connections shall not leak. 4.7 Dynamic Torque: For each tubing or pipe material, two of the smallest size fittings and two of the largest size fittings shall be assembled with two lengths of tubing/pipe joined with a press-connection coupling as shown in Figure 4. The sample shall be installed in a dynamic torque test assembly that twists the tube/pipe at the non-fixed end with respect to the coupling as specified in Table 6, and as shown in Figure 4. After each sample has completed the twisting cycles, each sample shall be subjected

8 and Radiant Heating Systems Page 8 of 1 to a water pressure test at the pressure, temperature and duration as specified in Table 6. The condition of acceptance is that no failure shall occur during the pressure test. 4.8 Static Torque: For each tubing material, two of the smallest size fittings and two of the largest size fittings shall have two lengths of tubing/pipe joined with a press-connection coupling as shown in Figure 5. Each assembly shall have a minimum torque applied as specified in Table 7. After the torque is applied, the force shall be released and each sample subjected to a water pressure test of 400 psi ± 7 psi (2759 ± 44.2 kpa) pressure for a period of 48 hours at a temperature of 68 F ± 9 F (20 ± 4 C). The condition of acceptance is that no failure shall occur during the pressure test. 5.0 EVALUATION REPORT RECOGNITION The evaluation report shall prohibit piping installed with press-connection fittings from supporting additional weight to that indicated by the testing covered in Section 4.4 of this criteria. *Uniform Mechanical Code and Uniform Plumbing Code are copyrighted publications of the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, East Philadelphia Street, Ontario, California
