2 INTRODUCTION KOICA KOICA is: -The Korea International Cooperation Agency -founded as a government agency on April 1, Implementing government's grant aid and technical cooperation programs for developing countries KOICA Indonesia Office: -was established in September 1992 as one of the biggest overseas offices of KOICA - In collaboration with the Indonesian government, KOICA implements various projects and cooperation programs
3 INTRODUCTION KIPCCF KIPCCF is: - Korea-Indonesia Joint Project for Adaptation and Mitigation of Climate Change in Forestry Period: Jan Dec (60 months) Budget: 5 million USD funded by the KOICA Activities: -A/R CDM Project: PDD and Plantation (300 ha) - REDD+ Project: Research and Implementation -Capacity building including joint study & Training programs

8 REDD+ PROGRAM INTRODUCTION Location: North Batukliang village in Central Lombok -protection forests near the border of Mt. RinjaniNational Park Executing Agency: KOICA and Ministry of Forestry (FORDA) Main Activities - REDD research: Lombok island (RS survey) - Analysis on a trend and causes of deforestation & degradation - Develop methodologies & soico-economic model aiming for REDD+ implementation (By the end of 2011) - Implement REDD+ Pilot Project according to Indonesia REDD Regulation(from 2012)

10 REDD ACTIVITIES SITE SELECTION Considering feasibility, the team decided Lombok Island for REDD research Why Lombok for REDD activities? -High pressure on deforestation and/or degradation due to local development and agricultural activities - Clear boundary leakage issue - Cooperation by related sectors (local government, people) REDD research: Lombok island REDD pilot activity: Lombok Tengah (Batukliang)

12 REDD+ ACTIVITIES RS survey & study on the causes of DD in Lombok island -RS survey ( ): Land use change & forest stock changes - Deforestation & Forest Degradation in Lombok island: Cause & Consequences Result Summary RESEARCH(1) - Deforestation in Lombok: ( 87) 151,064ha ( 10) 110,034ha ( 27%) * deforestation 1,817ha/year, degradation 268ha/year -Deforestation in Central Lombok: ( 87) 22,016ha ( 10) 20,449ha ( 7%) * deforestation 67ha/year, degradation 0.21ha/year - Causes: illegal logging(before 2002), Fuel wood for Tobacco(after 2002)
