17 Robert W. Seltzer Chief of Department SMITHFIELD FIRE DEPARTMENT 'Vo JJJp Poopi/ HEADQUARTERS, STATION NO PUTNAM PIKE SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND rjji^ iiaiikj!. Tel. (401) Fax (401) To: Honorable Town Council From: Chief Robert Seltzer Date: July 26,2017 Re: Ladder Sharing Agreement Dear Town Council Members, Included is a document titled Ladder Sharing Agreement. This agreement is part of our collaborative group called the Greater Woonsocket Fire Chiefs Mutual Aid Association, as an agreement to continue the sharing of our resources as we have been doing in the past. The Ladder Sharing Agreement was established so that the participating communities would have a reserve ladder truck available to use during periods of maintenance or long term repairs should they occur in any of the respective communities. Since ladder trucks, as any other fire apparatus require routine maintenance, all communities involved will benefit from the shared ladder truck. Further, it helps us all by not requiring the purchase of a reserve ladder truck in each community. The ladder truck that is being shared is from Central Falls, one that was just replaced by a new ladder truck. The shared truck is in good condition as a reserve. The shared ladder truck is housed in a Cumberland fire station, so it is kept out of the weather. We anticipate that the annual fee to each participating department will be $1,500 per year to maintain the shared ladder truck. Thank you for your consideration of this agreement. incerely. Robert W. Seltzer Chief of Department Motion: The Smithfield Town Council hereby approves the Fire Department Ladder Sharing Agreement. tviii Le lite moil e^ecti ce andfjeoiiclire etner^encij ieet'ice and dintilee miligaiion orynni'itili'oii lo malte ^ntili^iefd ihe Utfeil commnnihj lo (ire, irorit andjjfaij.
18 August 1, 2017 A meeting was conducted with the Rhode Island Department Of Transportation - Properties Division to discuss State owned property along the RT 116 corridor. One of the parcels discussed was the property at the intersection of RT 116 and RT 7 where the possibility of a new Fire Station may be located. As I am sure you remember, I have been discussing this property with the State for some now. Final consideration and decision on this property will be deliberated by the Council in the near future. The State has required any prospective purchaser to have an archaeological study completed and submitted to the State Property Division for their records. A State Vendor Contract Master Price Agreement exists that could be utilized by the Town if deemed appropriate. The two vendors listed are Public Archaeology Laboratory, Inc. and Archaeological and Historical Services, Inc. In speaking with Ms. Ann Hollands, administrator for State real estate. Public Archaeology Laboratory, Inc. has been suggested for consideration because they are local and have completed numerous studies. Proposed Motion: That the Smithfield Town Council hereby authorizes a Phase One Archaeological Survey for property of interest to the Town through an authorized State Vendor Listing to Public Archaeology Laboratory, Inc. In addition, it is authorized that the Town Manager negotiates a scope of work hours required to complete this project.
