Heating News November 2011 Profit Strategies for the Construction & Energy Industries Newsletter Topics Netherlands: Germany: Germany: Hungary: Sweden: China: Switzerland: Ukraine: Belgium: BDR THERMEA Now 100% Owned By REMEHA FOUNDATION ZEHNDER Plans New Logistics Centre Pellets Producer Build New Plant In The US New Grant Programme SYSTEMAIR Acquires Indian IAPL BOSCH To Take Over Air-Conditioning Manufacturer WAFERTEC Adjourns Solar Module Production New Nuclear Plant New R&D Centre For DAIKIN
1 BDR THERMEA Now 100% Owned By REMEHA FOUNDATION BDR THERMEA GROUP, the heating products group, is pleased to announce that its parent company REMEHA GROUP BV has agreed to acquire the 40% interest in BDR THERMEA held by BRAVE B LUX SA, a company owned by funds advised by BC PARTNERS. The completion of the acquisition will take place on 31st October 2011, from which date the REMEHA GROUP BV (owned by the REMEHA FOUNDATION STICHTING AANDELEN REMEHA ) in the Netherlands will be the sole shareholder of the BDR THERMEA GROUP. BDR THERMEA was created in the autumn of 2009 as a merger between DE DIETRICH REMEHA GROUP B.V. and BAXI HOLDINGS LTD. 60% of BDR THERMEA has since been owned 60% by the REMEHA FOUNDATION and and the other 40% by funds advised by BC PARTNERS. Mid 2011 BDR THERMEA acquired the majority in BAYMAK, Turkey, which until then was a joint venture between BDR THERMEA and Dr Murat Akdogan. BAYMAK is the 2nd biggest heating company in Turkey. BDR THERMEA is a world leading manufacturer and distributor of innovative heating and hot water systems and services, operating in a market worth over 16 billion in annual sales. Source BDR THERMEA: 30 th September ZEHNDER Plans New Logistics Centre The radiator manufacturer ZEHNDER plans a new logistics centre at their production facility Lahr (Germany). The investment sum remains undisclosed. The new centre will cater for several production sites in Europe. The Swiss Group intends to acquire an area of 51,000m² and construction time is expected to take six months. The logistics centre is planned to operate from the beginning of The main reason Lahr was selected is its central location in Europe, from where core markets, such as France, Germany, Switzerland, UK, Netherlands and Italy can be supplied. At the same time, a logistics centre will reduce lead times and costs. Source MWLogistik: 30 th Setpember German Pellets Producer Builds New Plant In The US The company plans to set up a plant in Tyler County (East Texas) on the site of a former woodchip manufacturer with a capacity of 500,000 tonnes of pellets per year. Currently, the two largest pellet plants in Germany, both owned by GERMAN
PELLETS have a combined capacity of 256,000 tonnes. The pellets produced in the US are destined to be shipped to Europe to be used as industrial pellets in coal fired power stations. The plant in Texas will start production in the third quarter of According to the company, the market for industrial pellets is growing rapidly. Currently, about half of the global pellet production of eight to ten million tonnes is used in European power plants. Nearly all large European energy providers, such as E.ON, RWE, VATTENFALL, ELECTRABEL (Belgium), DRAX (UK), DONG (Denmark) or ESSENT (Netherlands), use pellets in coal fired power stations or have plans to do so in the near future. The renewable energies have crossed the 20% mark for the first time in the first six months of According to the estimates of the German association of the energy and water industries (Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft, BDEW), renewable energies covered 20.8% of the German current demand (57.3 billion kilowatt hours) in the first six months of During the first half year of 2010, this figure only came to 18.3%. Wind energy remains the most important type of renewable energy with a share of 7.5% (2010: 6.6%). Biomass follows with 5.6% (5.4%). Photovoltaic could nearly double its share due to an increase in photovoltaic plants as well as a sunny spring and therefore moved hydro power from the third place. Altogether, photovoltaic plants delivered 3.5% (2%) of the electricity. Hydro power came to 3.3% (3.6%). The share of regenerative electricity deriving from energy-from-waste plants remained unchanged at 0.8%. Source Erneuerbare Energien: 6th October New Grant Programme In Hungary The Hungarian Ministry of Development will start a new grant program on 25 th October 2011 (with a deadline of 31 st December), which will finance small scale projects for solar collectors. The total budget of the program is around HUF 2.97 billion (around 9.9 million). The maximum grant is HUF 800,000 ( 2,700) /apartment (max. 50% of the total investment). The eligible applicants are individual house owners or apartment owners (for block of flats with a maximum of 12 apartments). According to general calculations this programme will finance approximately 29,700 m2 solar collectors if the total budget is spent. Source Portolio.hu: 10th October 2011
5 SYSTEMAIR Acquires IAPL SYSTEMAIR has reached an agreement to acquire INTERNATIONAL AIR CONDITIONING PRODUCTS PVT. LIMITED (IAPL) in India, which is a part of SUVIDHA GROUP. IAPL manufactures air handling units for the Indian market and has a turnover of approximately 6 million (SEK 55 million) and 120 employees. The company is based in Greater Noida outside New Delhi, and has sales offices in further five cities in India. IAPL owns an industrial property covering 23,000 m2 land area of the Greater Noida Ecotech Park. SYSTEMAIR intends to coordinate the production of their Indian operations and build a R&D Centre in this property. The total purchase price amounted to 6.9 million (SEK 63 million) including the industrial property. SYSTEMAIR CEO Gerald Engström hopes to get access to more and larger construction projects by having local production. Further, the company expects increased sales of other SYSTEMAIR products on the Indian market from the recently acquired RAVISTAR, which manufactures air distribution products, and their current production of fans in India. Source Heating and Ventilation.net: 17th October BOSCH To Take Over Air-Conditioning Manufacturer BOSCH s THERMOTECHNOLOGY Division plans to take over the Chinese manufacturer of ventilation/air-conditioning systems OAK in Qingdao, China. The respective agreement was signed on 19th October 2011 in Zibo. The transaction is subject to local official approvals. The parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Last year, OAK generated sales revenues of approx. 8 million and employed roughly 260 people. OAK develops, produces and markets highly efficient heat pump systems for small and larger residential buildings as well as for commercial and industrial applications. This includes water and air source heat pumps with outputs of up to 4.8 megawatts. The products are manufactured at the company s Zibo plant, which also houses certified testing facilities. The products are marketed by 18 distribution offices employing some 90 people, who support the dealers in planning and system layout. According to Uwe Glock, President of the BOSCH THERMOTECHNOLOGY Division, OAK ideally complements BOSCH s existing product portfolio, especially with regard to central heat pump systems for larger buildings. He further says that the takeover not only allows us to expand BOSCH s position in the dynamic
Chinese market for high-capacity heat pump systems, but will also make their product portfolio more attractive for the American and Central/Eastern European market. Going forward, OAK will cooperate with the other worldwide BOSCH THERMOTECHNOLOGY sites to make an important contribution to the development of sustainable and resource-efficient technologies. BOSCH THERMOTECHNOLOGY GMBH forms the THERMOTECHNOLOGY Division of the BOSCH Group. Together with its international subsidiaries, BOSCH THERMOTECHNOLOGY is a leading manufacturer of resource-efficient heating products and hot water solutions. In fiscal 2010, the company generated sales of 3.1 b i l l i o n and e m p l o y e d a p p r o x. 1 3, p e o p l e. B O S C H THERMOTECHNOLOGY has strong international and regional brands and manufactures a diversified product range in 21 plants in 10 countries in Europe and North America as well as China. Source BOSCH: 20th October WAFERTEC Adjourns Solar Module Production WAFERTEC, a subsidiary of MEYER-BURGER, had to adjourn its production of solar systems at short notice due to declining demand. The company feels that political decision-making is to blame for this development. The production is planned to cease for November and set to last for one to three weeks. The current reservation on the end-customers behalf led to the fact that the companies WAFERTEC supplies decreased their investment in production means. MEYER-BURGER primarily blames the reduction of feed-in tariffs in key markets, such as Germany, Spain and Italy for the end-customers insecurity. MB WAFERTEC employees will bridge over the production stop by using accumulated overtime and annual leave. Additional measures, such as unpaid leave or reduced working hours, may take effect in December depending on capacity utilisation. Source Basler Zeitung: 25th October New Nuclear Fuel Plant In Ukraine VEL, a Russian fuel company, and YADERNOYE TOPLIVO, the Ukrainian staterun nuclear fuel concern, have agreed to launch a new nuclear fuel plant construction project in Ukraine in The design stage will begin next year, and the construction work will be carried out between 2012 and The $370 million ( 277 million) plant will be situated in the Kirovohrad Province.
Ukraine will have the controlling interest in the company. Source PMR: 26 th October New R&D Centre For DAIKIN DAIKIN'S manufacturing site in Ostend will now become the R&D centre for all future European product developments following a 13 million investment in technology and infrastructure. Its recently opened European Development Centre (EDC) is expected to play an important role in the development of innovative, energy-efficient alternatives for conventional heating solutions. The EDC includes a series of high-tech testing rooms. In one of these test chambers, the engineers can simulate all of the climatic conditions which may occur in any one of the 27 European countries. DAIKIN expects to compile a European team of up to 200 specialists by the year 2015, recruiting a range of researchers and engineers to join the existing team in Ostend. DAIKIN plans for the EDC to evolve in the future into an important European R&D centre, based in Ostend, with satellites in the Czech Republic and Germany. The EDC will be given a high degree of autonomy to develop its own innovative designs and solutions specifically for the European market. Source ACR News: 24 th October 2011
