Project Environmental Monitoring Richard Giles
Project Environmental Monitoring Project environmental monitoring started in May 2013 for noise and dust Dust monitoring is carried out at six locations on the site boundary, determined by wind direction and site works Noise monitoring is undertaken at the four locations specified by the NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure, and the NSW EPA: Childcare Centre on Waldron Road 183 Miller Street 190 Virgil Avenue Epic Place These locations are shown on the following map.
Project Environmental Monitoring
Project Environmental Monitoring - Results The maximum concentration limit for dust is 50 µg/m 3, and the greatest boundary measurement to date was 44 µg/m 3 in November This is consistent with background dust levels measured offsite. During attended noise monitoring at each location the noise consultant has only heard site noise once, faintly, being an excavator tracking over concrete. At all other times the dominant noise source has been road traffic. The Project Approval and Environment Protection Licence specify limits for noise generated from the site (of between 61 and 48 decibels during the day), however the noise consultant has been unable to quantify the site noise levels due to their relatively minor nature.
Project Environmental Monitoring - Results Two rounds of night time noise monitoring have been undertaken to establish background levels prior to night works commencing. Again the dominant noise source was determined to be traffic. Another round of night time noise monitoring will take place within the next week or so, when the plant is running clean soil. Orica and Enviropacific Services encourage all residents to use the 24 hour contact number if any site noise is loud or causes a nuisance.
Project Environmental Monitoring - Ongoing There have been no dust or noise exceedences recorded during monitoring to date and no complaints have been received with regards to site works. Monitoring frequency was increased to weekly (for four weeks) when construction activities commenced, and has now returned to monthly until DTDU commissioning Regular night time noise monitoring will not be undertaken until night works commence. Weekly off site air monitoring for dust and site chemicals commenced on 17 January 2014 at the Chester Hill Girl Guides Hall on Waldron Road There has been no detection of site chemicals in the dust, and total dust load has ranged between 18 and 68 µg/m 3. Note that 8 of 16 monitoring results have been above the site criterion of 50 µg/m 3.
Project Environmental Monitoring - Ongoing
Project Environmental Monitoring - Water Our Trade Waste Agreement with Sydney Water has been operational for almost 1 year, whereby treated site water is tested and discharged to sewer All results to date (9 rounds) have been significantly below the discharge criteria, with no pesticides detected Approximately 7.3 megalitres have been discharged under the Trade Waste Agreement
Thank you
Progress Update Management Plans and Regulatory Approvals Peter O Dea (Orica)
Status of Regulatory Approvals The EPA issued the Environmental Protection Licence variation on 21 March The Commissioning and Proof-of-Performance (CPoP) Plan has been agreed with the EPA. The FSB/ECS Commissioning & Operation Plan and the Carbon Bed Breakthrough Action Plan have been updated to incorporate EPA comments.
