Provide technical assistance to regional and local governments in planning and authorisation procedures. 4

GDP) 2 special structures (hydro-met-clim and coastal waters) 1030 staff (of which 140 managers/executive/supervisors) 1 central directorate General Directorate, Technical Directorate, Administrative Directorate (170 approx) 85 M yearly budget Three main laboratories plus four specialized labs (95,000 laboratory analyses/year) 19,000 territorial inspections/year 27,000 technical evaluations/year (regarding authorization procedures by local govenments) 1,500,000 hours/year of automatic continuous monitoring of environmental variables (hydromet, AQ, WQ, EMF, etc) 5 Main fields of activity Monitoring of environmental variables: air, water, soil, waste, landfills, etc Command and control: inspections and sampling of industrial and productive sites, control of related authorization procedures Hydro-meteorological and climatological analyses and forecasting for civil protection, agriculture and general users Chemical, biological, toxicological and laboratory analyses Technical support to local governments in matters of environmental impact analysis and evaluation, planning and authorisation procedures, technical conferences, etc. Project planning and evaluation at local, regional, national and european level Regional environmental information system Environmental information, education and communication 6
