4 Fostering of human resources Construction of networks Contribution to environmental improvement. Promotion of environmentrelated industries Approaches in the environmental sector in Fukuoka Prefecture Experience in overcoming environmental pollution Fukuoka Prefecture has experience in being directly faced with and overcoming serious pollution problems associated with the development of industries during the period of rapid economic growth. In response to the voices of residents asking to prevent environmental pollution, residents, corporations and the government came together as one body and made approaches. As a result of these approaches, a comfortable environment has now been brought back to life. Example of Omuta City In Omuta City, together with the prosperity of the coal industry, there was air pollution caused by soot and smoke generated by factories and business sites, such as heavy and chemical industry kombinat due to amassment of factories such as for chemicals, machinery and non-ferrous metals. This was a serious situation, where persons with health hazards came forward, such as due to water contamination of the rivers and oceans caused by factory effluent. During such times, approaches were made by the local region to eliminate environmental pollution, and environmental standards related to the air, rivers and ocean came to be gradually achieved. Currently, Omuta is progressing with new city development based on advanced environmental harmony. Current approaches Comprehensive Environmental Vision Omuta City in the 1950s (Dense smoke emissions in the air) Omuta City today (Restored to clean, blue skies) 7 pillars in the Comprehensive Environmental Vision We are living in an era where the perspective of the environment is sought after in every kind of situation, whether it be our daily lives, business activities, or policy-planning by the government. The times are changing from one where the environment and growth conflict with each other, to an era where the perspective of sustainable social development where the environment and growth are harmonized is emphasized. With this kind of awareness, environmental policies are being promoted based on formulating a Comprehensive Environmental Vision and establishing 7 pillars, in an aim to pass down a Fukuoka Prefecture in which each resident can realize physical and mental happiness. Environmental cooperation with various Asian regions In Fukuoka Prefecture, environmental technologies and know-how that the prefecture has accumulated in the process of overcoming environmental pollution is utilized in order to contribute to the resolution of environmental problems in various Asian regions, and progress is being made with environmental cooperation with such regions. Concretely, Training to Foster Human Resources for the Global Environment has been implemented since 2006, and administrative officers engaged in environmental policies are invited, mainly from regions with which Fukuoka has amicable relations. By utilizing these networks that we have created through such training, the prefecture is also moving forward with various environmental cooperation projects with regions in Asia with which we have amicable relations. In the future, such environmental cooperation will be promoted, and contributions will be made to environmental improvement in Asia. Training to Foster Human Resources for the Global Environment Targets: Officers engaged in environmental administration in China, Thailand, Vietnam, and India Contents: Waste processing, general environmental management such as conservation of the water and air environment, and training related to environmental education Global Environmental Cooperation Projects Using the networks that are built up through training, environmental cooperation projects are implemented with regions in Asia with which Fukuoka has amicable relations [Examples] Technical assistance for construction of Fukuoka Method (semi-aerobic landfill) waste disposal facility in Hanoi Construction of a network for fostering human resources In order to introduce the environment-friendly Fukuoka Method waste disposal facility in Hanoi for Waste disposal facility in Hanoi the first time, a memorandum specialized for cooperation between Fukuoka and Hanoi was concluded in August 2013, and cooperation toward technical guidance related to constructing the waste disposal facility and its operation and maintenance after completion is being implemented. 5 Concrete examples of major environmental measures Construction of a recycling-oriented society research and development that aim for popularization of a recycling system In order to construct a recycling-oriented society, it is necessary to resolve issues related to the resource recovery system and market development, and to establish a new recycling system in society. To do so, Fukuoka Prefecture has established the Fukuoka Research Commercialization Center for Recycling Systems in At this Center, research and development by industry-academiagovernment, support for commercialization oriented toward regional development, and communication of environmental and recycling information are carried out. Ensuring a living environment where people can and water environment Research and development scheme lead healthy and comfortable lives conservation of the atmospheric In Fukuoka Prefecture, in addition to various laws, further strict environmental regulations were established based on prefectural ordinances; exhaust gas and drainage are measured and analyzed based on on-the-spot inspections at factories and workplaces, and confirmations are made regarding the promotion of appropriate environmental conservation measures at each workplace. Also, air and water are regularly monitored at many points within the prefecture, and data from this is utilized to judge suitability of environmental standards and as materials for assessment of environmental conservation measures. The Fukuoka Institute of Health and Environmental Sciences, which is a testing and research institute, plays an important role in this measurement analysis and monitoring. Collection of drainage in an on-the-spot inspection at a workplace Measurement of exhaust stack gas at a workplace Measurement analysis by the Institute of Health and Environmental Sciences Construction of a low-carbon society Promotion of the introduction of renewable energy There are expectations for renewable energy to serve as a pillar for diversification and decentralization of energy sources. In Fukuoka Prefecture, efforts are made to take the initiative to introduce renewable energy at facilities owned by the prefecture, and support is provided for the construction of a model for local production for local consumption of energy by municipalities, in order to broaden the introduction of renewable energy that makes use of the resources and characteristics of the region in various areas within the prefecture. In addition, efforts are also being made toward environmental development for promotion of introduction of renewable energy, such as by publishing basic information (amount of sunlight, etc.) necessary to examine the introduction of renewable energy. 7 Waste Astec Irie Co., Ltd. Friendly to the environment through preventing agent for powdering of slag and slag cooling facility that was developed by making use of our performance in steelmaking slag treatment in Japan. Realizes safe slag treatment! Making use of our ideas and technologies that were born from the iron-making process, we are expanding our environment and recycling business. The preventing agent for powdering of slag and slag cooling facility that we are introducing represent technologies that were developed by making use of our experience in business related to design, manufacturing, installation, operation, and maintenance of slag treatment facilities in the steelmaking process. The KAILEX preventing agent for powdering of slag prevents powdering of reduction slag, and exhibits effects in dust countermeasures. The slag cooling facility ISC can increase safety and environmental enhancement as compared to landing treatment. KAILEX preventing agent for powdering of slag Prevents powdering of slag, promotes effective use This preventing agent for powdering of slag suppresses powdering of slag that occurs in the steelmaking process in electric furnaces, converter furnaces, etc. When slag is powdered, it has an adverse effect on the environment, and also hinders effective use of slag. By using this preventing agent for powdering of slag, it is linked to environmental improvement as well as expansion of effective use of slag. ISC slag cooling facility Rapid cooling fracturing Slag (melting) transportation Effects of preventing agent for powdering of slag Preventing agent Not added ISC system process flow The largest characteristic of ISC is that slag in a melted state is discharged thinly and broadly on to a steel plate tray (ISC- Box), air cooling and water cooling are carried out, and then the ISC-Box is tilted after coagulation to excrete the slag. The natural decay phenomenon of the slag cooling process is nurtured through forced cooling, and furthermore, fracturing effects are heightened based on falling and impact from the ISC-Box. Increased environmental performance and safety In terms of the environment, although water vapor is generated based on cooling in the ISC-Box, it is possible to minimize generation of dust. With regard to safety, the water on the ISC-Box is vaporized, and there is no danger of vapor explosion during slag discharge. discharge Cooling (watering) Tilt and discharge Preventing agent Added transportation Slag treatment technology is used at iron mills such as shaft furnace and electric furnace manufacturers. It is possible to utilize the technology that makes use of our abundant record in slag treatment as slag dust and safety measures. Astec Irie Co., Ltd. 8 Waste Eco-Stage Engineering Co., Ltd. Based on our unique Oil temperature decompression drying technology (tempura method), various organic waste is recycled into valuable resources such as through conversion of sewage sludge to fuel and fortification of food residue! Systematic technology that enables for uniform drying in a short period of time. The oil temperature decompression drying technology (tempura method) is unique patented technology that uses waste cooking oil as an indirect heating medium to mix and heat organic waste with dewatered sewage sludge and food waste, lower the boiling point by reducing the pressure inside the device to an atmospheric pressure of approximately 0.6, and vaporize the treated material at approximately 85 C to 110 C. As a result of the water vaporizing, the input waste is reduced to approximately 1/5 to 1/3 its original amount, and the water content falls to less than 5%. Although usage methods for the product material that underwent drying differ depending on the waste, the product material can be reused as valuable resources. In the case of sewage sludge, the product can be used as fuel for mixed combustion at thermal power plants, and in the case of food waste, the product can be used as feed and fertilizer. Oil temperature decompression drying technology (tempura method) Uniform drying is possible in short-term drying treatment Since drying is carried out under reduced pressure using oil as a drying heating medium, the oil and organic waste that is subject to treatment come in contact evenly, and the water content of the product material after drying is uniform everywhere. In addition, by forcing the water to vaporize by reducing the pressure, highly-efficient and rapid vaporization is possible. Decompression Decompression Decompression Heat Heat Heat The oil and raw material are heated, and vaporization of water starts. The water on the surface of the raw material is vaporized, and the water in the core of the raw material is further vaporized upon decompressing Drying is complete at a temperature of approximately 100 (Vacuum of approximately - 700mmHg) Outline of oil temperature decompression drying method technology Organic waste is reproduced into valuable resources and effectively used Since drying is carrying out based on frying using waste cooking oil, a certain amount of waste cooking is contained in the product material after processing. This gives new added value to the product material that is not possible with normal drying technology, enabling for valuable sale and reuse. For example, in the case of sewage sludge, the oil that is contained due to processing increases the caloric value, and becomes product material with an average particle radius of approximately 1mm, with a high lower heating value (about 25Mj/kg) that is approximately the same as that of coal. This can then be effectively used in fuel for mixed combustion at thermal power stations. In addition, in the case of food waste, most of the organic nutrients are recovered and sterilization is also carried out at the same time, enabling for product material with high added value as feed and fertilizer to be produced. (Comparison of solid fuel processing of sewage sludge) Heat valuemj/kg) Carbonization 9.6~14.6 Granular drying 14.6~18.8 Oil temperature decompression drying 23.0~25.1 Water(%) ca. 5 ca. 6~10 ca. 3 Ash(%) ca. 50 ca. 30 ca. 20 Bulk specific gravity ca. 0.4 ca. 0.6 ca. 0.6 Odor none strong weak Structure of oil temperature decompression dryer Oil temperature decompression dryer installed on truck This technology is used in plants throughout Japan where food residue, sewage sludge, night soil, and residue from food processing plants are treated, and enables for various organic waste and unused biomass to be turned into feed, fertilizer, and fuel. This technology has been gaining attention overseas, as demonstrated by many inquiries from people in China and Korea who have difficulties processing food waste in particular. 11 Waste Kyushumetal Industry Co., Ltd. Approaches have been made to materials recycling of shredder dust, achieving 100% recycling of end-of-life vehicles! In particular, we have strength in sorting techniques of non-ferrous metals. This company is a company that recycles metal wastes, mainly of automobiles. The shredder dust that is generated after crushing metal waste is recycled into cement material, but when a minute amount of metal becomes mixed in, it becomes difficult to use this as cement material. In addition, since it is possible that metals with high value such as precious metals, rare metals, copper, etc. can be contained in the metal that mixes into the dust, technology that recovers metal from dust has been sought after. Our company can recycle high-value precious metals, rare metals, copper, etc. from dust at a high recovery rate based on various recycling techniques that we have developed on our own. Recycling of shredder dust Shredder plant with one of the foremost processing capacities in Japan Kyushumetal Industry owns multiple recycling facilities, including a horsepower shredder plant, for producing metal scraps. With an annual processing capacity of end-of-life vehicles is 100,000 vehicles, and we have one of Japan s leading end-of-life vehicle processing capacities. With regard to ferrous and nonferrous scraps, we are making active approaches toward increasing their added value as recycled products horsepower shredder plant owned by Kyushumetal Industry Strength in sorting techniques of nonferrous metals We are also vigorously moving forward with recovering various valuable metals from not only shredders of metal wastes, but the shredder dust that is discharged from the shredders as well. The shredder dust of metal waste contains many resources of high value, including valuable metals such as platinum and palladium, as well as copper and rare metals. Our company has succeeded in achieving a high recovery rate of these metals based on a unique sorting process that combines a sorter/sensing separator, such as an eddy current separator or specific gravity sorter, with hand-sorting, and we have realized a 100% recycling rate of automobiles. Currently, we are planning on introducing the latest sorting equipment to actively promote thorough recovery of resources from urban mines and domestic recycling in Japan in the future. 14 Waste Otani Chemical Industries Co., Ltd. Recycling process where nickel compounds can be obtained at a high recovery rate from electroless nickel plating waste solution established! Recovery of phosphorous fertilizer material from waste solution also being reviewed for practical use. Otani Chemical Industries Co., Ltd. is a company where recycling of rare metals such as nickel and noble metals is one of the main businesses. Since 2009, we have received support from the Fukuoka Research Commercialization Center for Recycling Systems, and have progressed with research and development of highly-efficient nickel recovery methods from electroless nickel plating waste solution, together with Kansai University. In general, the recovery rate of metals extracted through a single operation based on the solvent extraction method for metal waste solution is 30 to 80%, but the extraction material that our company has succeeded in developing extracts nickel at a rate of more than 98% in a single operation, enabling for highly-efficient recovery in a short period of time. Our company is also carrying out recovery of phosphorous compounds in waste solution, and is reviewing its use as fertilizer material. Nickel recycling from electroless nickel plating waste solution High recovery rate in a single extraction process Electroless nickel plating has the characteristic of enabling for uniform film pressure using technology where plating processing onto non-conductors is possible, and is used in a broad array of sectors such as electric and electronic equipment, automobile industry, and precision machinery. Since nickel, which is a rare metal, is contained in the waste solution that is generated, highly-efficient recycling has been sought after. By using the nickel extracting agent that our company developed jointly with Kansai University, it is possible to obtain nickel from waste solution at a high recovery rate of more than 98% based on a single extraction process. This technology is patented as Method for recovering nickel from electroless nickel plating waste solution, and nickel ion extracting material used in this method (Patent No ). Fertilizer material is obtained from waste solution after nickel recovery During electroless nickel plating, phosphorous compounds are used as a component for reducing nickel ions, and thus, a large amount of phosphorous compounds is contained in waste solution. These compounds are useful as fertilizer material, and if it is possible to reduce the content of hazardous heavy metals, it is possible to reuse the phosphorous compounds that were recovered after plating waste solution treatment as fertilizer. The key points of our company s nickel recycling are that it has a high nickel recovery rate, and that the phosphorous compounds recovered from waste solution can be used as raw materials for fertilizer. Currently, approaches oriented toward practical use are being promoted. (Top) Mixer-settler extractor, (Bottom) Recovered sludge containing highly-concentrated nickel. 19 Waste Tagawa Sangyo Co., Ltd. Making use of molding technology for plaster, we have developed plaster ceramic that uses incinerated ash from sewage sludge and coal ash from power plants! Effective for recycling of toxic waste, as there is almost no elution of heavy metals Since coal ash generated from power plants and sludge incineration ash derived from sewage treatment plants contain heavy metals and are highly toxic, large amounts of costs of incurred in their processing. As a method for effectively utilizing such waste, our company has developed plaster ceramic using sewage sludge incineration ash, based on joint research with the Fukuoka Research Commercialization Center for Recycling Systems. By mixing lime hydrate, which is a main component of plaster, and incineration ash, which is a waste product, and sending it through a high-pressure press, we have succeeded in obtaining compact that can be used as construction material. Even if the content of incineration ash is increased to 50%, humidity conditioning, sterilization, and odor eliminating actions, which are characteristic functions of plaster, are maintained, and there are expectations for waste as recycled construction materials that can be used effectively. Recycled building materials using incineration ashes from sewage sludge, etc. It is possible to increase the content of incineration ash by ultrahigh-pressure vacuum press molding Tagawa Sangyo is manufacturing plaster ceramic using incineration ash, by making use of our own technology where high-pressure molding of plaster is carried out. For this recycled building material, which is manufactured by mixing lime hydrate, which is raw material for plaster, and incineration ash, and pressing it using a large, special pressing machine, even if the amount of incineration ash is increased to 50%, it is possible to obtain building materials of a strength that is not a problem in terms of practical use. Since incineration ash can be utilized in large quantities, as more recycled building material is used, the more it is connected to reduction of toxic waste. Almost no elution of heavy metals Since various heavy metals are contained in incineration ash, it is regarded as hazardous waste, requiring a large amount of processing costs. When this is used as recycled building materials, it is possible to significantly reduce the amount of incineration ash, which had generated expensive processing costs, and since there is almost no elution of heavy metals as they are turned into building material, it is possible to eliminate the problem of heavy metal contamination in soil and groundwater. Of course, they can be used with ease of mind indoors and in offices as well. The intrinsic functions of plaster remain as is The humidity conditioning, sterilization, and odor eliminating actions of plaster, which are its characteristic functions, remain as is even after they are turned into recycled building materials. These building materials are adapted even to users who require a living space that makes use of the intrinsic functions of plaster. Plaster ceramic that makes use of incineration ash is also used for the office walls of our company. Ultrahigh-pressure vacuum pressing machine owned by our company. By using this device, recycled building materials using processed ashes and LIMIX, which is plaster compact, is manufactured. Plaster ceramic that uses incineration ash. Used on the wall surfaces of our office. Plaster is highly-functional construction material, and needs for buildings that use plaster have been increasing, mainly in advanced countries that require better living environments. Even recycled building materials that contain a mix of approximately 50% of processed ashes exhibit the high humidity conditioning, sterilization, and odor eliminating actions of plaster. Recycled building materials represent environmentally-compatible plaster technology that can contribute to the problem of processing hazardous waste. Tagawa Sangyo Co., Ltd. 20 Waste Taisei Kanri Kaihatsu Corporation Large track record of operation and maintenance of final disposal sites, starting with Fukuoka City! Implementing training and consulting in emerging countries by making use of high technological strength. Strength in licensing of technology that is suited to local needs. The sophistication of facilities at final waste disposal sites is outstanding, and facility standards based on a semi-aerobic structure has come to be established. However, without appropriate operation and maintenance of final disposal sites, it is not possible to make use of functions to the fullest. This company has made its way as a company that supports public administration, centering on operation and maintenance and consulting operations at general final waste disposal sites. As we approach our 50th anniversary, we have established a track record of continued operation and maintenance of final waste disposal sites in Fukuoka City, and based on the operation and maintenance technology of final disposal sites that we have accumulated, we have established appropriate operation and maintenance methods for final disposal sites. Our operation and maintenance technology is utilized throughout Japan. We have progressed with licensing operations overseas, and are greatly contributing to environmental conservation. Operation/maintenance and consulting for final waste disposal sites We possess unique operation and maintenance technology related to semi-aerobic final disposal sites Semi-aerobic final disposal sites represent technology where pipes are passed through the inside of landfill sites, making them favorable for taking in outside air, and where waste is fragmented aerobically based on the movement of microorganisms and early stabilization is promoted. It is adopted in many disposal sites throughout Japan. In order to realize this function, it is important not only to construct a container for disposal sites, but to implement continuous design and construction management to create a structure where a self-cleaning mechanism based on microorganisms is maintained when landfilling waste. We have the technology to construct landfills and to construct gas collection facilities, as well as information management systems that manage these in a uniform manner, making it possible to construct an early stabilization structure and to carry out management for long periods of time. The concept is construction of facilities do not end until the final disposal site is closed. Operation and maintenance technology of disposal sites that correspond to local needs Leveling construction for gas collection system (vertical groove) We devised the FSUP construction method that balances both functions and construction efficiency, and are implementing leveling construction for a hard-type gas collection system that features improvements. Lam s-c (patented construction method) Construction of slope protective soil 4 characteristics of operation and maintenance of final disposal sites developed by Taisei Kanri Management of measurements within site/ landfill height As there are numerous countries where final disposal sites are not appropriately operated and maintained, in order to improve the local environment, it is essential to upgrade the level of management technology of final disposal sites. Our Support of construction technology in Nepal. We carried out support for optimal waste company has carried out training and consulting related to treatment on-site, such as by implementing training related to rainwater drainage treatment, operation and maintenance of final disposal sites in 8 countries up to now, as part of JICA projects. As the materials and constructing circulation facilities for leachate, etc. human resources that can be used are limited, we propose appropriate construction methods that utilize locally-available materials. In order to prevent damages to the liner sheet, which is one of the most important structures at a final disposal site, we are implementing protective soil work for the liner sheet in sloping areas using our unique construction method. Lam s-c In order to manage the shape and landfill amount after landfilling, measurement of the area is implemented regularly, and results diagrams for calculating landfill amount and landfill history are created. Lam's-M We carry out accumulation of records over long periods of time, storage management, additions to information, and analysis (3D topographical maps, chronograms, future design diagrams). LAM s-i Information management Our technology is utilized in operation and maintenance of final waste disposal sites in Japan. There are still many countries where appropriate operation and maintenance of final waste disposal sites have not progress. In relation to these countries, it is possible to introduce optimal operation and maintenance technology that is adapted to local needs. In China, we have made approaches toward a model business where experimental proof of this system is carried out, and are planning on expanding in other Asian regions. Local circulation service Merry s System Unique and advanced composting technology Food residue, etc. is biodegraded rapidly without generating any foul odors at the occurrence site using a food residue fermentation and cracking unit, and is reduced to approximately 1/20 its original amount. This is recovered at a frequency of approximately once every 6 months, after which secondary and tertiary fermentation are carried out using facilities at our company s recycling center, and turned into compost/soil improving agent. The reduction process is carried out on site, separate from the composting process, which allows for space-saving and costreduction. Local contributions through organic vegetables/vegetables with reduced chemical use utilizing compost The compost/soil improving agent that is created at the recycling center is returned to farming lands at local farms, etc., and a system that utilizes biomass circulation is constructed within the region. Total recycling of plastic waste and combustible waste We provide a recycling system that organically combines composting technology, pyrolytic carbonization technology for combustible waste, biomass, etc. that was developed at Kitakyushu Eco Town, and catalytic cracking liquidation technology for plastic waste and waste cooking oil, etc. As it becomes possible to reuse approximately 90% of the waste produced in the region, this contributes to environmental conservation of small-scale local public bodies and minor islands. Food residue fermentation cracking unit and disassembly of inside Install a food residue fermentation cracking unit Install a food residue fermentation cracking unit inside your facility. The amount of food residue is reduced through biodegradation, promptly and without generating any foul odors, at the site of occurrence of food residue. Since this unit is for rent, capital investment costs are reduced. (It is possible to purchase or lease this unit as well) Harvests of recycled agricultural products that were created using the compost created at the recycling center are purchased by Merry s Group, and then resold to users of this service. Circle of food residue and safe vegetables Circle of safe vegetables and compost Fermented and cracked remains are collected once every 6 months When food residue is placed in the cracking unit, microorganisms are decomposed inside, and they change to fermented and cracked remains (temporary fermentation). This is recovered once every 6 months by Merry s Group. Complete composting through secondary and tertiary fermenting The fermented and cracked remains that were recovered using the facilities at Merry s Group recycling center are complete composted, and regenerated as soil improving agents. Provision of compost and soil improving agent Overview of Food Residue Recycling System that is part of Merry s System. Realizes food circulation based on unique and advanced composting technology. Eating and drinking establishments, hospitals, food service centers, local public bodies, etc located in more than 400 places throughout Japan have introduced Merry s System. Recycled compost is also effectively used in farming lands. At Wuxi City in China, a model project for producing organic vegetables with compost using large amounts of bluegreen algae that occur in Lake Tai is being implemented. Plans are being made for commercialization after April Restaurant industry Delivery of safe and sound agricultural products Local public bodies Food-related business operators, etc. Vegetables Fermented and cracked remains Contracted farms, agricultural coops, agricultural corporations Recycling center Compost The compost, liquid fertilizer, and soil improving agent (nitrate reducing agent) created at the recycling center are provided to contracted farms, agricultural co-ops, and agricultural corporations. 23 Waste Total Care System Co., Ltd We have succeeded in being the only company in the world to commercialize paper diaper materials recycling. We have been receiving an increasing number of inquiries from various places as a trump card for the elderly welfare care society that is approaching as well as protection of forest resources. In our company s recycling of paper diapers, we are involved in recycling used paper diapers collected from mainly hospitals and welfare facilities (offices), as a business that does not exist anywhere else in the world. In addition, we coordinate with some local public bodies to recycle used paper diapers generated from households. By developing technologies and mechanisms for effectively using what used to be incinerated and processed up to now as pulp resources instead, jointly with the Fukuoka Research Commercialization Center for Recycling Systems, we are able to respond to the problems of the aging society, and not only recycling. Paper diaper recycling business Simultaneously supports the problems of the aging welfare society and global environmental problems We have presented to society the fact that it is possible to respond simultaneously to the problem of protecting forest resources (global environmental problem), which is a worldwide problem, as well as the increase in the number of elderly people and enhancement of welfare in Japan (aging welfare society problem). Through processing and recycling paper diapers, which are essential to the aging welfare society, we are contributing to the formulation of a recycling-based society. System where collection of paper diapers, water solubilization, and recycling are integrated and function as one Paper diapers that are collected from hospitals and welfare facilities undergo water solubilization at our company s recycling facility located in Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and are separated and recovered to various in of diapers materials. Materials recycling where the recovered pulp is reused as construction materials, plastic waste is reused as solid fuel, and sludge is reused as soil improving agent is realized. Starting in 2011, we will be the first to start recycling of paper diapers from households in the nation at Oki Town in Fukuoka Prefecture. Success in reducing CO 2 output based on anti-incineration of paper diapers Currently, used paper diapers are mostly incinerated, but in addition to this placing enormous burdens on incinerators due to a large amount of paper, valuable pulp resources are burned. 26 Water 1st Solution Corporation MC Construction Method is sludge dehydration technology that has small initial costs and running costs, and that can be transported and operated easily. By introducing "Eco Pouch" that we developed, this technology realizes significant cost reductions as compared to mechanical dehydration equipment. MC Construction Method is a one-stop, on-site treatment system for sewage and sludge that is specialized for smallscale business sites, and is comprised of transportable sedimentation/separation equipment, "Eco Pouch", which is a flexible container bag that can be dehydrated, and flocculent, all of which has been developed by our company. This technology was also selected as a "New Partnership Program" by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in It is also registered in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's NETIS (New Technology Information System), and there are expectations for its use in water quality purification and dredging sites in closed water areas (lakes and ponds), as a measure against muddy waters that arise at construction and civil engineering sites where both budget and space are limited. In addition, there have been an increasing number of inquiries regarding "Eco Pouch" after the nuclear plant accident, from regions that are concerned about treatment of contaminated water. MC (Mesh Cut) Construction Method Uses Eco Pouch and the flocculent Floccman that we have developed By using our own flocculent, it is possible to flocculate and precipitate particles inside muddy water in a short period of time. It is also highly safe and has no impact on the natural environment. Eco Pouch enables for efficient dehydration based on a fiber with an infinite number of small holes (mesh) and a special donut-like structure. In addition, since this structure is strong, long-term storage as a flexible container bag is also possible. Energy-saving and easy movement. Significant reduction of sludge treatment costs What is necessary on-site is only sludge reaction equipment that makes muddy water react with the flocculent (flocculent is added and agitated) and the Eco Pouch, which dehydrates sediment immediately. Utilizing only a small amount of power, transportation is possible by simply using a 2t truck. In addition, since dehydration (volume reduction) is completed on site, it is possible to reduce sludge treatment costs. Photo of construction site as part of the MLIT project. 28 Water Hitachi Zosen Corporation Realization of accelerated filtration processing speed to 3 to 6 times its traditional speed, using fibrous filtering media! Our high-speed fibrous filtration device that is energy-saving and low maintenance is used for various purposes, starting with advanced wastewater treatment and industrial water treatment. The high-speed fibrous filtration device Marimo that makes use of the technology that we had accumulated through fiber manufacturing is a filtration device that is filled with fibrous filter media. Since the porosity of the filter media layer is large, a high filtration speed is possible, and as the device is compact, a small installation area is also enabled. This technology has obtained a Construction Technology Review and Certification Certificate from the Japan Institute of Wastewater Engineering and Technology in March 2005, and is used in dead end filtration at sewage treatment plants, industrial water filtration, and tertiary treatment filtration after biological treatment. Up to now, we have delivered this device to may private-sector and government clients. High-speed fibrous filtration device (Marimo) 3 to 6 times the filtration speed of rapid filtration systems Since the porosity of the filter material layer is large, treatment at a speed of more than 1,000 m/day is possible, at a filtration speed that is 3 to 6 times faster than that of conventional rapid filtration systems. In addition, treatment of suspended solids (SS) inside the filtered water is possible in an equal or surpassing manner as conventional rapid filtration methods. Space-saving and low maintenance Since the filtration speed is fast, the filtration area is reduced, and an installation space of 1/2 that of that used for the rapid filtration method is possible. As a cleaning system that uses water and air is used, the amount of cleaning water that is used is small, and compared to replacement of sand for rapid filtration methods, little maintenance and low costs are incurred. 30 Water KOYOH Co., Ltd. Fulvic acid, which exhibits large effects in sludge elimination and soil. improvement, is blended into Bacillus subtilis purification material to form the more powerful Eco Bio Block! Attention is being gathered on water purification blocks that are fast-acting and persistent. Using Bacillus subtilis, which is known to have large effects in water purification, we have developed Eco Bio Block which incorporates Bacillus subtilis into materials, and is highly recognized both inside and outside of Japan. In an aim to further improve performance, we have focused on fluvic acid as a water purification material that is more fast-acting. Although a method to manufacture fluvic acid in a stable manner has not yet been found and it is a material that is difficult to produce in large quantities, we have established a manufacturing method for fluvic acid using waste materials such as wood chips. In April 2014, we are planning on starting mass production of fluvic acid, and we will start selling Eco Bio Block that is newly born and that contains fluvic acid. Even in short-term tests conducted in the Ariake Sea, high sludge dissolution effects have been confirmed, and there are large expectations towards improvement of water quality. Eco Bio Block containing fluvic acid Water purification material that is both fast-acting and persistent The newly reborn Eco Bio Block contains Bacillus subtilis and fluvic acid. Since Bacillus subtilis repeatedly proliferates underwater and gradually dissolves organic substances in the water, it exhibits effects over a long period of time. Fluvic acid is activated based on sunlight, and creates active species known as hydroxyl radicals from oxygen in the water. These active species are extremely effective in dissolving organic compounds, which enable for high-speed purification of water. By combining Bacillus subtilis with fluvic acid, we have created the Eco Bio Block that is both fast-acting and persistent. Fluvic acid can be produced in a stable manner Product lineup (excerpt). Development of a new plastic bag type Based on our company s research results, we have succeeded in being the first in the world to produce fluvic acid with confirmed efficacy in a stable manner, using waste materials such as wood chips. We are planning on starting mass production of fluvic acid starting in April 2014, in aiming towards commercialization of the Eco Bio Block that contains fluvic acid. Effective in relation to soil that is contaminated with heavy metals Fluvic acid possesses a chelate action that makes it bond strongly with heavy metals such as arsenic and mercury. When Eco Bio Block that contains fluvic acid is mixed into soil, it becomes possible to control the absorption of heavy metals by plants based on the chelate action, as well as prevent elution of heavy metals into groundwater, contributing to the safety and security of water and vegetables. Block ブロックタイプ type ((example) 一例 ) mm 約 10kg mm 約 9kg 生分解性プラスチックバッグタイプ Biodegradable plastic bag type mm 約 15kg 干潟のヘドロ分解に最適 Optimal for sludge dissolution in tidal lands Example of installation of Eco Bio Block (Malaysia) After announcing our new product, we received many inquiries from local public bodies and corporations that are troubled over water treatment, as well as fish workers in the aquaculture industry. 32 Water Maeda-Kougyou Co., Ltd. Rainwater purifier that utilizes the purification performance of steatite ceramics. Simple and low-cost equipment that enables for semipermanent continuation of the purification performance of ceramics. Gaining attention as purification technology that can aid the world s water shortage! As a company that originally started in the janitorial business, this company is currently examining diversification and overseas expansion of its business. One of our new businesses is the Rainwater Purifier that is being introduced at this time. We have focused on steatite ceramics, which possess the capability of adsorbing suspended particulates in rainwater as well as of neutralizing acid water, and have developed a rainwater purifier that uses this ceramic. Using ceramic, which is not toxic to living organisms, it is possible to obtain safe water since chemicals, etc. are not used at all in purification. Since the equipment is extremely simple, introduction costs are also low, maintenance is simple, and it can be wellreceived in emerging countries with serious water shortage. Steatite Ceramic Rainwater Purifier Semipermanent continuation of high purification capacity The ions contained in steatite ceramic adsorb suspended particulates in rainwater, and make the water clean. Ceramic also has a neutralizing function, and it is possible to neutralize acidic rainwater while eliminating suspended matter. Suspended matter that has adhered to the steatite ceramic can be easily eliminated based on washing with water, and it is possible to regenerate the purification capacity of rainwater. Since the rainwater purification capacity of steatite ceramic continues semipermanently, additional running costs are also low. Possible to create safe and sound water at low costs The steatite ceramic used in the rainwater purifier uses remnants produced in ceramics factories. As a result, the cost of primary materials is extremely low, enabling for rainwater purification at low costs. The cleanliness of water purified using steatite ceramic is high, and since it is possible to make acidic rainwater neutral based on the effects of the ceramic, it is not necessary to use any additional chemicals, enabling for safe water to be created at low costs. Maintenance consists only of rinsing off debris that has adhered to the steatite ceramic, and is extremely simple. Actual installation of rainwater purifier Rainwater before purification and rainwater after purification using ceramic. Clean water where floating substances have been eliminated is obtained. In inland areas where there is serious water shortage and in countries with vulnerable water infrastructures, there is believed to be a high need for this technology. Since the equipment itself is compact and low-cost, it is a product that can be broadly received even in emerging countries. This technology has generated a great amount of interest overseas, as exemplified by inquiries from China and Vietnam. Maeda-Kougyou Co., Ltd. 34 Water Nature Co., Ltd. Water quality conservation technology Lake Controller that possesses the functions of supply of oxygen to deep parts of lakes, measures against bluegreen algae, and discharge of deep water. Realizes energy-saving without requiring large-scale engineering works. The idea of securing an environment (water) that can be left for the future and creating technology that does not require much energy became connected to the realization of compact lake water quality conservation technology that is superior in energy-saving as compared to the past and that can combat both eutrophication and blue-green algae. Our company's "Lake Controller" is technology that is also registered in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's NETIS (New Technology Information System) as technology that prevents eutrophication in dam lakes, etc., and that kills blue-green algae. There are examples of this technology being introduced at dam lakes, etc. in Japan, and there are expectations for this to be low-cost and easily-installable water quality conservation technology at lakes both inside and outside of Japan where eutrophication is a problem. Lake Controller Possesses the 3 functions of deep-layer aeration, countermeasures against blue-green algae, and discharge of deep water Eutrophication is prevented by pumping deep water, and sending water that contains dissolved oxygen to the deep layer using a microbubble generation nozzle. In addition, it is possible to kill and dissolve bluegreen algae by sucking in the blue-green algae on the surface layer and sending it to the deep layer. Material balance is also improved by discharging deep water that contains nutrients in abundant amounts. Low initial costs and running costs Since a floating structure is used, construction costs are cut back significantly, By applying the principle of siphoning, the pump capacity is also minimized. In addition to miniaturizing equipment (4m x 4m), this also contributes to energy-saving Survey and consulting of the lake environment are also implemented as a set To ensure optimal operation conditions for the equipment, our company conducts surveys on water quality and bottom sediment beforehand, and proposes technology designs and operation methods for effective operation. In closed waters (particularly lakes with a water depth of at least 10m) such as dam lakes, etc. where water is retained, this technology exhibits effects on measures against eutrophication in deep water as well as against blue-green algae. This technology has actually been introduced to lake managers (local public bodies, etc.) that are concerned about foul odors and worsening of water quality. Lake purification measures in emerging countries where eutrophication is progressing due to inflow of surplus fertilizer and human sewage from agricultural areas are also anticipated. Raw water Lake Controller installed in a dam lake (Motobe Dam, Saga Prefecture). The features are that it is compact and of a floating type. 35 Water Nishihara Neo Co., Ltd. Low-cost and space-saving food wastewater treatment device N-UASB implements an efficient anaerobic drainage treatment process that utilizes granule bacteria. The methane gas that is produced can be used as boiler fuel inside the treatment device. Nishihara Neo Co., Ltd. has progressed with the wastewater treatment business such as wastewater treatment systems and sewage treatment, with making water, which is essential for people to live, clean as its corporate mission. We manufacture and sell N-UASB anaerobic discharge treatment equipment that uses granule bacteria, as equipment for treating organic drainage that is discharged from food factories. This equipment differs from the activated sludge process in that the equipment is extremely compact since bacterial can be densified, and operation at electricity charges of approximately 1/5 those of the aerobic treatment method is possible. The methane gas that is produced based on processing organic matter can be used as boiler fuel for the equipment, thus reducing fuel costs. This equipment has already been introduced in food factories, etc., and has been highly appraised. High-speed, ultrahigh load anaerobic drainage treatment equipment N-UASB High-speed processing of organic drainage is possible in a limited space The granule bacteria that carry out drainage processing in the N-UASB system is bacteria that is capable of densifying. Compared to the activated sludge method, high-concentration drainage can also be treated, enabling for shortening of the treatment time. Since densification is possible, the reaction tank space is compact, taking up 1/10 of that used in the activated sludge method. Low-cost operation is possible Since the bacteria has activity even in anaerobic conditions, it is not necessary to supply oxygen such as by using a blower, and power costs can be cut. Since the amount of sludge that is generated is also small, it is possible to reduce sludge treatment costs. Comparison with activated sludge method (comparison under given conditions) Steam Option High load activated sludge method Anaerobic + aerobic treatment Biogas Desulfurizing tower Boiler Reaction tank capacity 300 m3 Anaerobic treatment 25m 2 Aerobic treatment 60m 3 Neutralizer Steam Steam Gas dome Generator Electricity costs 16,300yen/day 3,000yen/day Cost of dehydrating 6,100yen/day 400yen/day Sludge treatment 20,400yen/day 1,900yen/day From regulating tank To aerobic treatment Discharge of sewage Total operation 42,800yen/day 5,300yen/day ph regulating tank Acid formation tank Neutralizing tank N-UASB reaction tank Treated water tank (Note) There may be changes depending on the design conditions System flow for N-UASB As this is a system that specializes in treatment of organic drainage, its use at food factories, etc. is expected. This is an optimal process for food business operators who want to carry out drainage treatment at lower costs, and whose space for installing drainage treatment equipment is limited. Since activity is barely lowered even if the system is suspended, this can be utilized at batch-type factories as well. Nishihara Neo Co., Ltd. 36 Water Sepa-Sigma Inc. We uniquely developed next-generation membrane separation hole diffusion technology. New membrane separation technology that replaces filtration, characterized by non-clogging and no need for filtration pressure. We provide maintenance-saving and energy-saving membrane separation technology! Our hole diffusion technology that we developed uniquely is an efficient membrane separation method that uses the thermal motion of particles (Brownian motion) and the conductance separation effects that occur inside the flow channel, and has obtained an international patent. The hole diffusion separation membrane that is used in separation technology has the characteristics of no clogging and no need for filtration pressure. It consists of a flat membrane made of pure cellulose, and a porous multi-layered structure. In addition, as adjustments between an average pore diameter of 5 to 1,500nm are possible, it is possible to apply this to various uses, from solid-liquid separation to elimination of viruses. In addition to manufacturing and selling these separation membranes, we are carrying out water treatment process development and technological advice such as for filtration plants in developing countries. Principle of "hole diffusion" technology Next-generation membrane separation hole diffusion technology Low maintenance, energy-saving membrane separation technology Membrane separation based on hole diffusion technology that our company has developed uniquely reduces the frequency of maintenance, as it makes clogging hard to occur. In addition, even when the amount of processing has decreased, regeneration to a state that is nearly the same as the initial state is possible through disassembly based on simple cleaning and chemicals. Since ultralowpressure processing (less than 0.15atm) that does not require filtration pressure is carried out, it is possible to separate using minute power consumption. As it is low maintenance and energy-saving, this is linked to reduction of running costs as well. 37 Atmosphere Seibu Giken Co., Ltd. VOC concentrator Sky Save that makes use of supported technology of hydrophobic zeolite and honeycomb manufacturing technology that Seibu Giken has accumulated over a long period of time. Realizes highly-efficient and low-cost VOC treatment, and contributes to measures against air pollution. The VOC concentrator Sky Save that Seibu Giken manufactures and sells is a product that brings together the honeycomb manufacturing technology that we have amassed for over 30 years and the support technology (attachment onto carrier) of functional substances. Hydrophobic zeolite, which can adsorb various VOCs, attaches onto the surface of inorganic fiber paper that is formed into a honeycomb shape. When exhaust that contains VOCs is passed through Sky Save, the hydrophobic zeolite selectively adsorbs only VOCs, making it possible to concentrate VOCs on the surface. The adsorbed VOC is desorbed based on heat, and as a result, by passing a small amount of hot air through Sky Save after exhaust treatment, it is possible to create gas containing highly-concentrated VOC, thus enabling for efficient combustion of VOCs afterwards. Through this, it has become possible to lower the cost of VOC treatment that is part of measures against air pollution. VOC concentrator Sky Save Concentrates and recovers VOC in exhaust gas in high concentrations, and significantly reduces processing costs. Although recovered VOC is combusted using fossil fuels, when the VOC concentration in emissions is low, it is inefficient as large amounts of fuel is used, and space for combusting large amounts of gas is required. After VOC is highly concentrated using Sky Save, it becomes possible to create gas containing highly-concentrated VOC by passing hot air through Sky Save, enabling for consumption of fuel to be curbed to the minimum. In addition, it also becomes to design the combustion equipment so that it is compact, allowing for effective use of limited space. Can be applied to a wide variety of VOCs Actual honeycomb rotor. Hydrophobic zeolite is supported on the fine honeycomb surface. Since the types of VOCs that are used vary depending on the factory, a concentrator that can be adapted to various VOCs has been desired. By changing the type and structure of hydrophobic zeolite that is supported to the surface, it is possible to manufacture a concentrator that can adapt to various VOCs. Since heat resistance is also high as compared to activated charcoal that was used in the past as an adsorption agent, it is possible to adsorb VOCs with a high boiling point as well. We have a product lineup that supports various zeolites, and our products are used at many plants, such as coating booths at automobile plants, semiconductor production plants, printing plants, etc. Regeneration fan Cooling zone Regeneration zone Press filter Regeneration heater Processing zone Processing fan VOC concentration rotor Geared motor Basic principle of VOC concentrator. 40 Energy Smart coat PRO Co., Ltd. Power in reduction of electricity costs and CO2 through energy-saving exhibited! Superior in fire resistance and durability, heat shield coating Smart Coat R for window glass significantly cuts ultraviolet rays and infrared rays. By coating the surface of window glass, etc. with Smart Coat R, ultraviolet rays and infrared rays are blocked significantly, allowing for a cool indoor space. During the summer, when air-conditioning is essential, this coating suppresses heat from flowing in from the outside, and controls the rise in indoor temperature. In addition, it also curbs the power consumption of air conditioners as well as electricity costs. Although there is heat shield film, which is a similar product, issues with this film consisted of low durability and its susceptibility to scratches and tears. "Smart Coat R " is an improvement of this film, and it was first installed on the window glasses of telephone boxes. In Southeast Asia, etc., since the burden of air-conditioning is large, there have been an increasing number of inquiries regarding this technology recently. SmartCoat R Cuts out more than 95% of ultraviolet rays and 30 to 99% of near-infrared rays Exhibits prevention of deterioration of the product and protection against insects by cutting out ultraviolet rays, and demonstrates further heat barrier effects, by cutting out infrared rays Since this is directly coated onto the window glass surface, durability is high, and the service life is approximately 20 years Since coating that has the same major component of silica as glass is directly coated onto glass, characteristics include good adhesiveness and resistance against peeling. In order to eliminate difference in performance based on different contractors, a manual and inspection structure have been established Abundant variation as a coating manufacturer Where necessary, it is possible to change the raw material and make adjustments based on the customer's needs. New product for toplight countermeasures "Cool Shade R " (patent pending) New type of heat barrier coating that has shatterproof and antiglare functions. 41 Energy Tire Supply Kyushu Ltd. Lead batteries that can be regenerated and restored, without having to dispose of them! Through combined use of the discharge curve diagnosis system that is developmental technology related to regeneration of lead batteries and refresh equipment, regeneration quality is significantly increased. The technology developed by Tire Supply Kyushu is a series of new techniques for regenerating used lead batteries without having to dispose of them. The important point in refreshing (regenerating) lead batteries is being able to accurately comprehend the state of deterioration of used lead batteries. By using the diagnosis system that we have developed uniquely, it is possible to obtain further accurate data related to the state of degradation of lead batteries. Based on this data, accurate refresh processing that uses feeble currents (pulse current) is utilized to provide regenerated lead batteries of a high quality of 85% as compared to new products to the market. The latest automatic lead regeneration equipment Discharge curve diagnosis system developed uniquely by Tire Supply Kyushu In order to regenerate used batteries, first of all, it is important to accurately comprehend the variations in voltage and the voltage level of each cell. The diagnosis system that we developed emphasizes the voltage curve, and compared to traditional methods where only discharge voltage is comprehended, it is possible to capture the state of degradation in a more detailed manner, as well as variations among cells in a timely manner. Of course, it is also useful in checking quality after refreshing the batteries. Enhanced refreshing equipment By applying a feeble current (pulse current) to the deteriorated cell, the deterioration components that have adhered to the electrodes (sulfation) can be separated from the electrodes and dissolved in electrolyte solution. Currently we have 5 refreshing devices that make use of pulse currents, and have systems that can support various voltages and amperes. 49 Other Murai Chemical Pack Co., Ltd. Chemical Cation Pack coating with a trilaminar structure and high heat insulating effects. By coating various roofs such as of factories, elementary and junior high schools, and trains, with this coating, large effects are exhibited in making indoor temperature comfortable as well as energy-saving! Chemical Cation Pack coating with a trilaminar structure that was developed by Murai Chemical Pack Co., Ltd. is an acrylic coating that demonstrates high heat insulation effects. Although it was originally a product that was developed as a strengthening and protective coating for slate roofs that had become decrepit, we received opinions from users at construction sites that the indoor temperature in the summertime decreased greatly. Upon conducting detailed surveys, we found that the air space that exists in the middle layer of the trilaminar structure yields high heat insulation effects. Our product has been certified by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as a New Partnership Program as nonconventional strengthening and heat insulation complex coating, and has been used widely by major railway companies and factories in Japan, as well as elementary schools and junior high schools. Chemical Cation Pack Coating with superior heat insulation Within the trilaminar structure, the one that yields heat insulation effects is the middle layer, or the main chemical cation material. In this main material, there are an infinite number of air layers, which control the conduction of heat that is absorbed from sunlight. The durability of the coating itself is high, and the heat insulation effects continue for a long period of time. It is also effective in energy-saving in cooling and heating environments. Increased durability of slate roofs Decrepit slate roofs become brittle, and sometimes even become damaged by strong winds. The main chemical penetration primer + cation material that serves as the foundation layer of Chemical Cation Pack functions to strengthen slate, and can also dramatically increase durability (strength). In the case of slate roofs that contain asbestos, it can control scattering of asbestos through construction based on the nonwashing method. Expresses effects through accurate construction techniques In order to make maximum use of the heat insulation function of Chemical Cation Bag, accurate construction techniques are necessary. Our company has numerous workers who specialize in accurate construction technology, and we have a system where we can support construction of large-scale facilities as well as construction overseas. Trilaminar structure of Chemical Cation Pack. The middle layer is the key point in heat insulation effects Uses: Heat shielding and heat insulation of slate, shingles, concrete, mortar, asphalt, ALC boards, etc. Chemical penetration primer Protection/adhesive strengthening of foundation Rooftop slab, etc. High heat insulation effects of Chemical Cation Pack (outside temperature 33.6 C) Back surface of slate Indoor temperature Area with no construction Temperature of construction area Reflects approximately 85% of sunrays! Construction example (Nishi Nippon Electric Wire and Cable Co., Ltd. s wire rod plant) We have a track record of a large number of construction works of roofing material of local elementary and junior high schools, factories such as YKK AP, etc., as well as train compartments for JR Kyushu, etc. Overseas, we have carried out construction in Thailand, and we anticipate high demand in tropical regions where direct sunlight is strong. Old slate roofs contain a minute amount of hazardous asbestos. By coating these roofs with Chemical Cation Pack, it is possible to prevent scattering of asbestos. In addition, heat insulation effects are also achieved, and the work environment is dramatically improved. Bio-soil deodorizer Foul odors are cleaned based on the strength of microorganisms Bio-soil contains a kneaded blend of hard zeolite, activated carbon, bark compost, and starter culture, and in addition to a deodorizing reaction based on dissolution and physical adsorption, it carries out a deodorizing reaction based on anaerobic decomposition through microorganisms, making foul odors clean. Space-saving and low running costs as compared to traditional devices Compared to traditional soil deodorizers, the transit speed can be increased and construction costs are reduced by approximately 10%. Running costs are also reduced by approximately 40%, and installation space is a maximum of approximately 60%. Economical as compared to other deodorizing methods Foul odor Compared to the three methods of adsorption, chemicals + adsorption, and biological scramber, although the installation area of the bio-soil method is wider, since running costs are lower, it is the most economic deodorizing method when taking into consideration economic performance, including construction costs and running costs. (Treated air volume Bio-soil deodorization mechanism Dissolution Microbial decomposition Eluviation No odor Physical adsorption Anaerobic decomposition Installation of Bio-soil deodorizer (example) Water Bio-soil Chemical adsorption Biological scramber Chemical cleaning + activated carbon Activated carbon Bio-soil (Year) Note) Year 0 consists of cost of equipment only (cost of equipment includes main equipment body, foundation base, operation, installation cost, apparatus cost for deodorizing fan) Operation expenses include electricity costs for deodorizing fan(24 hours x 365 days) Approximately 700 units of Bio-soil deodorizer have been introduced in public sewerage systems, drainage facilities for settlements, etc. Even in small- and medium-scale public sewerage systems overseas, it is possible to introduce Bio-soil as an economic deodorizer. 53 Other World Link Co., Ltd. High-performance and environment-friendly mud solidification technology Deisat Construction Method R. The major component of the medicinal agent is a safe material derived from nature Treatment capacity with high-speed processing that is two times faster than in the past, hot technology that is gaining attention from overseas companies. Deisat Construction Method R that our company, which has strengths in soil rehabilitation and water quality improvement technology, has uniquely developed enables for high-speed treatment of mud that is generated at construction sites, etc. while reducing environmental burdens, by making use of natural, inorganic soil conditioner. Based on this, the work efficiency of construction increases and cost-reduction effects can also be expected. By applying this technology, we are currently expanding heavy metal insoluble treatment of contaminated soil. We have made soil contamination countermeasures possible for various types of land, based on our technology in medicinal agent selection strength in developing construction methods. Our superior technology is also gaining attention from abroad, and we have concluded a memorandum of business cooperation with a company in Guizhou Province of China for environmental improvement in Deisat Construction Method R Mud solidification technology that uses environment-friendly, inorganic improving agent Using an inorganic soil improving agent, the mud that is generated at construction sites, etc. is solidified, and instantaneously improved to a soil quality that is not liquid. When this soil improving agent and special chemical agent are used, heavy metals can be contained in a stable manner, and elution amounts minimized. In addition, the major components of this improving agent are natural materials such as volcanic ash (deposits of volcanic ash and sand) and clay material (bentonite), and thus is not necessary to worry about soil contamination by this chemical agent. Chemical agent that can be applied to sludge with high water content Soil improving agent used in the Deisat Construction Method R "Deisat" (left) "Deifloc" (right) In the case of sludge with high water content, solidification is difficult using past techniques, and as time is also required for dehydration treatment, etc., there were problems such as the amount of treatment per day being limited. Our inorganic improving agent can granulate sludge with high water content rapidly, which enables for early carrying out of soil, which in turn allows for shortening of construction periods and cost reduction. There is data that the Deisat Construction Method R has soil treatment capac- ity that is twice that of traditional construction methods. As the granulated improved soil can also be used in concrete, it will not flow again, enabling for reuse as embankment material. (Left) Sludge after it has been granulated using our company s soil improving agent (Right) Dredging soil improvement equipment. Our Deisat Construction Method R has a performance record at large-scale construction sites Making use of high treatment capacity, our technology is used in various locations centering on large-scale construction sites in Fukuoka Prefecture (Kyushu University, etc.) and Miyagi Prefecture (Kessennuma region). By utilizing a chemical agent selection technique that is suited to the conditions of soil contamination, it is possible to promptly progress with soil contamination measures in various countries and regions.
