GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Article with Generic Count Noun (5-6 minutes) ( 総称の可算名詞につく冠詞 ) An article is a part of speech that is used before a noun. There are only three articles in the English language, these are: the, a, and an. These three articles are divided into two types: the definite article (the) which is used when the noun is specific and the indefinite articles (a, an) which are used when the noun is unidentified or not specific. ( 冠詞とは名詞の前につくもので the, a, an の 3 つがあります the は特定のものを表す 名詞につき a, an はそれ以外の単数名詞につきます ) Generic count nouns are nouns that represent a whole group;it is not specific. These nouns can be counted. ( 総称の可算名詞とは グループとして何かを表す名詞のことで 数えられます ) e.g.( 例 )An employee works for an employer. ( 従業員は 雇用者のために働く ) A supervisor makes sure that the employees are working well. ( 監督者は 従業員がきちんと働いていることを確認する ) The policies of a company should always be followed. ( 会社の規定は 常に守られなければならない ) Remember: ( ポイント ) a and an can only be used for singular generic count nouns.
