1 Task 1: Choose 3 of the cartoons and write down what message you think they are trying to give. Why do you think these cartoons were created? Do you think they are persuasive and how?
2 Task 2 Draw a table with two columns one column for human impacts and one for environmental impacts. Take each of the effects of global warming in turn and decide if it would affect humans, the environment or both. Summarise the point in your chosen column. If you can think of any of your own, add them to your table. Can you flip the coin on any of the points and make them into positives (Good things) instead of negatives (Bad things)? Possible effects of global warming? Oceans absorb more heat than the land, and water expands when it is heated so this could cause sea levels to rise. Glaciers (big rivers of ice) and sea ice could also melt leading to sea level rise. Coastal cities could flood destroying valuable land. The climate of places could change. Places which usually get lots of rain may get hotter and drier. Beaches could disappear because of sea level rises. Many animals would be threatened with extinction (dying out) because of the heat and the loss of their habitats (homes). There would be a greater risk of forest fires due to the increase in temperature. There would be more droughts (Lack of rainfall) making it hard to grow crops in particular places. There could be an increase in the number of storms and extreme weather events because of the changes in heat.

List the causes that you think are the most significant and give a reason why. 2) How do you think the key events have contributed to global warming? Which parts of the world do you think contribute the most to global warming? Are these countries rich or poor? Why do you think some parts of the world contribute more to global warming than others? Greenhouse gases: What are the causes of global warming? water vapour carbon dioxide methane nitrous oxide ozone chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) An amount of these occur naturally but extra greenhouse gases can be created by humans and other sources. This is harmful as some of the sun s heat can become trapped by Greenhouse gases. Causes of Greenhouses gases: Fossil fuel burning power plants fuelled by coal release lots of Carbon Dioxide in order to produce electricity. Burning petrol for cars and other modes of transport can release high levels of Carbon Dioxide Animals produce Methane. By rearing cattle levels of methane in the atmosphere is rising Deforestation (Chopping down trees) can also contribute to global warming. We chop down forests for wood and paper and also to clear the land so that we can rear cattle. Forests remove and store Carbon Dioxide which will increase if we chop them down. Key contributing events: Introduction of package holidays 1950 Production of the Ford model T, the first car to become popular and available to lots of people 1908 First coal power station 1901 Industrial revolution

You need to include information on your poster that is relevant to your target audience; think carefully about facts and images that will encourage individuals to care about your cause.
