Sanitation in Malaysia cities Kuala Lumpur Kuching Putrajaya Ipoh Johor Bahru Shah Alam Penang Petaling Jaya Melaka Alor setar Labuan Kota Kinabalu Kuantan Kota Baru Seremban Kangar
Sanitation In Cities Water Management Sewerage Solid Waste Management
Water Resources Management Deliver Clean water supply in urban areas. Treatment Plant in the city Capacity of the water infrastructures to meet the population demands to meet the development. NRW Non Revenue water in cities. Development which cause shortage of water. Planning and development to suit the water demand within cities.
Solid Waste Management Development Of Waste Treatment Facilities Waste treatment facilities. Landfill /Transfer station/incinerator Right technology for waste treatment. Proper sanitation and location of waste facility to community areas. To Comply with environmental issues, sanitation and carbon footprint of Green cities. Compliance to Act solid waste act. Sanitation of landfill in cities.(leachate issues, Methane gas and proximity of plants) 3R reduce reuse and reduce. Recyling.
Sewerage Management Treatment Plant In Cities The Sewerage Treatment Technology Planning Central Sewerage treatment facilities Compliance to environmental standards EQA 1974 (environmental Quality act)
Integrated Sewerage treatment Plant in Putrajaya, Malaysia 350,000 population by year 2020 and area : 4390 hectares STP 1 and 2-75,000 and 600,000 pe New Administrative Centre for Malaysia planning and design - an ultra-modern city Putrajaya comprises of modern water-borne sewage collection system with lifting stations and centralized sewage treatment plants (STP). Sewage Collection Systems ( 90km of Trunk Sewer network system) Sewage Switching Plant and Pumping Stations (18 nos). Using MBBR Technology. - Class A effluent standard.
Public Sewage Treatment Plants in Malaysia No. Types of Sewage Treatment Plant As At Oct 2014 Population Equivalent pe 1 Imhoff Tank ,648 2 Oxidation Ponds 403 1,681,176 3 Mechanical Plants 4,902 18,665,408 4 Network Pump Stations 982 4,852,844 TOTAL 6,966 25,707,076
SEWERAGE
Centralised sewerage system in cities The trend will be moving towards "mechanical plants" such as Extended Aeration (EA), Oxidation Ditch (OD), Rotating Biological Contactors (RBC), Sequenced Batch Reactors (SBR) and Trickling Filters, MBBR (Moving Bed Bioreactor). Careful management of this change will ensure the future of Malaysia's public sewerage systems.
The country s first underground sewage treatment plant (STP)- Pantai 2 Expected completion :2016 Pantai 2 Sewage Treatment Plant (P2STP), which is equipped with state-of-the-art green technology, started in July Plant Construction Cost RM 983 Mil. The P2STP -green technologies including utilising the skylight concept for the underground plant, effluent reuse, rainwater harvesting and the use of biogas and solar panels to generate electricity. The plant also uses energy-efficient equipment to reduce the amount of electricity consumed
Trends in Sanitation Incorporating treatment of sanitation of sewage, effluent into the river with higher standard i.e Class A. Projects in Kuala Lumpur River of Life (ROL) clean water ways, Class IIB level, where the quality of water is safe to be touched and can support marine life into Class A. Greener and sustainable city. Putrajaya Class A standard. Trend by IWK Indah water and Span. For treatment Plants. Sewerage sanitation Act 1993 SSA is formulated to improve Public Sanitation in Urban areas.
Objective of Sanitation in Urban areas. the need to improve hygiene and living standards for economic development. to improve the water quality by developing STP, CSTF, sewer pipelines and pumping stations, to improve public sanitation conditions and to preserve natural environment in Malaysia. Development of sewerage facilities is prioritized as a means of boosting the living environment in Malaysia. Span-National water services commision authority to control the compliance in Devt.
Major sewerage treatment Plant in the Malaysia. Bunus Pantai Bandar Tun Razak Puchong Sungai Nyior Juru Kangar Damansara Sunggala Kuala Sawah Planned and actual population served and the connection ratio at each STP and STP State- Planned population to serve Population connected Connection to all areas is 1. 7 Millions, targetted by year 2020 for 100 % development.
Future Design of Treatment Plant
Typical conversion of oxidation pond to integrated sewerage Plant
The need Statement. Rapid economic and population growth in cities, the volume of living sewerage soared and the water environment deteriorated dramatically in large urban areas, and scarcity of land. Minimum of 73% by 2020 with population growth in major urban cities and 223 sewerage plants must be constructed in the region by 2040 to maintain their living environment. Development an efficient and sustainable sewerage system is important.
Conclusion Development of Sanitation in Cities is important to suit environmental boundary conditions. The authorities of SPAN National Water services Commisions is the Centralised agency to control at Federal Level. The City Authorities and Local Government is to comply at Planning and development Level. Issues of sanitation mainly on sewerage Infrastructures in cities has become predominant. Issues on Water, Solid Waste and Sewerage has an impact on environments and city sanitation. It has to be taken at Federal level due to budgetary purposes and implementation of the plan.
