6 Mine Planning & Design Services CMPDI is a premier consultant in open pit and underground mine planning & design in coal, lignite and other minerals. CMPDI has prepared over 1000 mining project reports with individual project capacity up to 50 Mtpa. Services provided for opencast mine planning & design to CIL and its subsidiaries has helped these organizations to achieve an unprecedented growth in coal production from opencast mines, from a level of 16.4 Mtpa in to over 391 Mtpa at present. 15 Blasting CMPDI renders value added services for carrying out controlled blasting & ground vibration study and performance evaluation of new explosives with spohisticated testing equipment. Fragment assesment and improvement study for gainful utilisation of HEMM in both coal and non-coal sectors. CMPDI also has technical niche in solving intricate blasting problems viz. assimilation and application of new technology. concept, cast blasting, induced cavig by blasting. blastng in hot strata, structural demolition etc. NDT Services for Non destructive testing of components of machinery, installations and other structural elements are provided on site during periodic maintenance to avoid accidental failure. Energy Audit and Benchmarking CMPDI is empanelled as an accredited energy auditor of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA). It carries out energy audits and annual benchmarking studies for electrical and diesel energy conservation in underground and opencast mines. Over 700 reports have been prepared. Inspection Services Pre-despatch third party inspection services for plant and equipment at the Manufacturer s works for materials procured by the clients are provided by CMPDI. Ventillation and gas survey With deeper and multiple seam workings vis-a-vis enforcement of coal production from its mines by introduction of mass production technologies,the relevance of suitable ventillation design has grown substantially over the years. CMPDI offers services for ventillation monitoring, planning and design of ventillation systems including gas survey, its analysis and testing for underground mines using modern software.
16 Laboratory Services CMPDI has well-equipped laboratories for carrying out investigations and analysis for geochemical, petrography, coal washability and, geo-mechanic properties. and Coal Bed Methane Studies. For coal and lignite characterisation, CMPDI has laboratories with highly skilled manpower and state of the art equipment. The data generated by these laboratories form the basis for characterisation and grading of coal in exploration, mine feasibility reports, washery designs and down stream utilization. The CBM Laboratory has grown up to a height in a very short span of time since its establishment for carrying out a large number of studies and analysis pertaining to Coal Bed Methane and its subsets. 16
17 Coal Bed Methane Laboratory Field desorption study, analysis of gas composition of desorbed gas, Mine air sample analysis, Mine survey sample analysis as well as sample collection and analysis of ventillation air methane (VAM), coalmine methane (CMM) are undertaken by CMPDI on a regular basis. The laboratory is also planning to diversify and create facilities for shale gas characterisation. Cement and Resin Capsule Testing Laboratory CMPDI has already started a fully equipped laboratory to test resin and cement capsule used for roof bolting. This has become a DGMS approved test house for this purpose.
18 ICT in Mining R & D Information and communication technology (ICT) is set to revolutionise mining industry and mine operations in the coming years.
