2 Plenary Session The UNI-SET Energy Clustering Event (ECE) Series aims at addressing from a university perspective the challenges in research and education relative to the 10 Key Actions of the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan), in line with the objectives of the Energy Union to foster the transition towards a low-carbon society. The human capital that is needed to implement this strategy is a crucial factor for a successful transition. Universities have a key role in providing in-depth knowledge to educate and train students in the necessary disciplinary and multidisciplinary fields. The first plenary will consist of an introduction to the objectives and format of the conference, including a draft Roadmap for Universities in Energy, a general document developed by EUA and the UNI-SET consortium that will outline ways forward for universities to coordinate their contributions to the energy transition towards a low-carbon society. As the series of ECEs advances, EUA and its partners will draft roadmaps for all ten key areas of the SET-Plan. In Turin, specific feedback for the European roadmap in the fields of energy efficiency and nuclear safety will be collected. Moreover, the host university will present its institutional strategy and approach to research and education in the field of energy. Topics Presentation of the UNI-SET Project and the Conference Objectives Prof. Torbjørn Digernes, Chair of the UNI-SET Steering Committee; NTNU Towards a Roadmap for Universities in Energy Dr Lidia Borrell-Damian, Director for Research & Innovation, EUA; UNI-SET Project Coordinator Prof. Johan Driesen, KU Leuven; Education Director, KIC InnoEnergy; UNI-SET Project Leader Politecnico di Torino s Strategic Approach to the Energy Challenge Prof. Enrico Macii, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Politecnico di Torino Coffee break Chair: Prof. Torbjørn Digernes, Chair of the UNI-SET Steering Committee; former Rector, Norwegian University of Science and Technology Plenary Session: Research, Innovation and Education in Energy Efficiency and Nuclear Safety During the second plenary session, three keynote speakers will present main research and education challenges for universities in the fields of energy efficiency in buildings, energy efficiency in industry and nuclear safety.
