PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION OF ORK: The applicant prpses t perfrm maintenance dredging, as necessary, fr a perid f 10 years, at the ds Run Ferry Landing t maintain adequate depth at the ferry ramp. Apprximately 1,000 cubic yards f sediment wuld be remved frm a 110-ft lng by 110-ft wide area, t a depth f 12 feet belw nrmal pl elevatin feet. The dredged material wuld be dispsed f at an upland site t preclude its reentry int the river. Drawings f the prpsed prject are attached t this ntice. 5. 2 CELRP-OP-F Public Ntice N IMPACT ON NATURAL RESOURCES: The District Engineer has cnsulted the mst recently available infrmatin and has determined that the prject may affect, but is nt likely t adversely affect endangered species r threatened species, r t result in destructin r adverse mdificatin f habitat f such species which has been determined t be critical. A search f the Pennsylvania Natural Diversity Index (PNDI ID: ) tl yielded a cmment frm the U.S. Fish and ildlife Service nting the need fr further review. The Service will be prvided with the prject infrmatin needed fr an impact determinatin. This Ntice serves as a request t the Service fr infrmatin n whether listed r prpsed t be listed endangered r threatened species may be present in area that wuld be affected by the activity, pursuant t Sectin 7(c) f the Endangered Species Act f 1972 (as amended). 7. IMPACT ON CULTURAL RESOURCES: The Natinal Register f Histric Places has been cnsulted, and it has been determined that there are n prperties currently listed n the register which wuld be directly affected by the prpsed wrk. If we are made aware, as a result f cmments received in respnse t this ntice, r by ther means, f specific archelgical, scientific, prehistrical, r histrical sites r structures which might be affected by the prpsed wrk, the District Engineer will immediately take the apprpriate actin necessary pursuant t the Natinal Histric Preservatin Act f Public Law as amended (including Public Law ). 8. PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT: Any persn may request, in writing, within the cmment perid specified in the paragraph belw entitled "RESPONSES," that a public hearing be held t cnsider this applicatin. The requests fr public hearing shall state, with particularity, the reasns fr hlding a public hearing. 9. EVALUATION: Interested parties are invited t state any bjectins they may have t the prpsed wrk. The decisin whether t issue a permit will be based n an evaluatin f the prbable impact including cumulative impacts f the prpsed activity n the public interest. That decisin will reflect the natinal cncern fr bth prtectin and utilizatin f imprtant resurces. The benefit which reasnably may be expected t accrue frm the prpsals must be balanced against its reasnably freseeable detriments. All factrs which may be relevant t the prpsal will be cnsidered including the cumulative effects theref; amng thse are cnservatin, ecnmics, aesthetics, general envirnmental cncerns, wetlands, histric prperties, fish and wildlife values, fld hazards, fld plain values, land use, navigatin, shreline ersin and accretin, recreatin, water supply and cnservatin, water quality, energy needs, safety, fd and fiber prductin, mineral needs, cnsideratins f prperty wnership and, in general, the needs and welfare f the peple. The Crps f Engineers is sliciting cmments frm the public; Federal, state, and lcal agencies and fficials; Indian Tribes; and ther interested parties in rder t cnsider and evaluate the impacts f this prpsed activity. Any cmments received will be cnsidered by the Crps f Engineers t determine whether t issue, mdify, cnditin, r deny a permit fr this prpsal. T make this decisin, cmments are used t assess impacts n endangered species, histric prperties, water quality, general envirnmental effects, and the ther public interest factrs listed abve. 2
