6 Problems for E&P include- Vast areas eg Kazakhstan is bigger than Western Europe with 16mm people, desert steppes, Continental climate, hot summers, cold winters even +/-40 in Kazakhstan, snow. (Tajikistan winter is more like UK.) Problems little infrastructure, often no roads Tajikistan also has no local supply chain Co ordinate systems! 6 6

7 Politics and commercial overview Each country in the region is different but they do have many elements of a common shared history Kazakhstan has a thorough bureaucracy Uzbekistan is friendly but slow and careful Turkmenistan is self sufficient Tajikistan really needs hydrocarbons There are cross border issues 7 7
