2 Year-round Savings and Benefits, the Clean, Reliable Way. PureCell 200 Heat and Power Solution. The PureCell 200 solution is a clean, efficient, reliable fuel cell power plant. It produces 200 kilowatts of assured power plus up to 925,000 Btu/hour of heat for cogeneration applications. Proven technology As of July 2005, the PureCell 200 solution fleet of commercial fuel cells has accumulated more than seven million hours of operational experience. More than 275 PureCell solutions have been sold in 19 countries on five continents. The system powers schools, high-rise office buildings, hospitals, and manufacturing sites. Assured power The standard PureCell 200 system is a grid-connected unit, operating in parallel with electric utilities. You can also choose a dual-mode configuration which enables the unit to operate grid-connect or grid-independent switching between modes automatically or on command. With dual mode configuration your power stays on even when the grid goes down. Environmentally sound design Fuel cells represent one of the cleanest power generating technologies available today. PureCell 200 systems operate well below air emission standards in every state. In fact, in California, the PureCell 200 solution meets the strictest emissions requirements as established by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Add in its quiet noise profile, and the PureCell solution is a welcome power alternative anywhere indoors or outdoors, in cramped cities or quiet rural neighborhoods. Clean, efficient, reliable, secure and quiet the PureCell 200 power system is the ultimate solution. PureCell 200 Power System PureCell Solutions Feature: Reliable power Generates assured computer-grade power for a range of on-site power needs. Flexible siting With indoor and outdoor installation options, the PureCell 200 system connects easily with city gas and electrical distribution systems. Scalable design Factory assembled 200 kw modules operate in parallel to meet any electrical load requirements simply add more units if your needs change. Clean energy Producing no harmful fumes or exhaust, the PureCell 200 system is virtually pollution free and meets or exceeds air emissions standards throughout the United States (CARB 07). Low sound profile The PureCell 200 system s low noise profile (60 dba@30 ft.) eliminates the need for sound proofing or hearing protection. Remote monitoring Remote monitoring and diagnostics allow for early fault detection and real-time trouble shooting. PureCell 200 Power System Installation Stockton College, New Jersey UTC Power would like to recognize our collaboration with DOE DE (Office of Distributed Energy within the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy) in developing the technology that enables commercialization of the PureCell system.
3 PureCell Heat & Power Solution Exhaust heat is lost energy the PureCell solution recycles it. By the time grid-supplied power reaches you, much of the fuel s original energy has been lost but not its cost. You pay the utility for the lost energy anyway. PureCell systems are more than twice as efficient as the electrical grid. So you get double the energy from the same amount of fuel instant efficiency and savings. First, there are no transmission losses. Energy is created right where it s used inside your building. Second, and more importantly, waste heat is captured to generate additional useable energy for heating or cooling. The conversion of fuel to useable energy is more complete, which translates to higher efficiency. The process is cleaner, more reliable, and makes better use of natural gas fuel. The bottom line? Continuous savings for you and for the environment. More pollution released Low efficiency significant amount of energy is lost to the atmosphere as waste heat. Waste heat Coal Oil Natural gas 67% 33% 100% Source: Adapted from U.S. Combined Heat and Power Association. Electricity Higher costs to the end-user In today s centralized power generation, a plant typically releases 67% of energy from fuel as waste heat, and the remaining 33% as electricity. Less pollution released High efficiency more waste heat recovered and converted to useable energy. Waste heat 20% Natural gas 80% 100% Source: Adapted from U.S. Combined Heat and Power Association. Electricity Hot water Lower costs to the end-user By recovering and using waste heat, cogeneration systems release, on average, 20% of energy as heat to the atmosphere, while the remaining 80% is converted to electricity, steam/hot water and chilled water, depending on the system.

5 PureCell Heat & Power Solution Well suited to a variety of applications. PureCell 200 power solutions are delivering more efficient, practical and secure power solutions throughout the world. OFFICES HEALTHCARE DATA CENTERS The police station in New York s Central Park relies on a UTC Power PureCell 200 solution to keep running - even when millions of people are in the dark for miles around as they were in The fuel cell is owned and operated by the New York Power Authority. PUBLIC BUILDINGS INDUSTRIAL Four PureCell 200 units serve as primary power at the First National Bank of Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska, as part of a UPS system. Together, this system prevents even a millisecond of datacenter downtime. A PureCell 200 power solution at Four Times Square in New York City provides green power that contributes to the City s ever-bluing skyline. The Mohegan Sun Resort in Uncasville, Connecticut employs two PureCell 200 power solutions providing prime power support in a CHP application utilizing both low and high grade heat options. Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, utilizes a PureCell 200 solution for both primary power and standby power support.
6 Year-round Savings and Benefits, the Clean, Reliable Way. Alternative Fuel Experience. Free fuel. That s what anaerobic digester gas (ADG) is for UTC Power s PureCell 200 solution. ADG is a by-product of the wastewater treatment process containing methane, considered one of the single most-harmful greenhouse gases. UTC Power fuel cells currently generate 2.8 Megawatts of premium quality power using this fuel. That equates to over 6 million Kilowatt hours of experience, so you can rest assured our product is proven in this application. In addition, the PureCell 200 power solution is the only ADG fuel cell verification tested by the EPA through its strict Environmental Technology Verification program. More proof it will operate effectively on your ADG site. And that s good for the environment. The Wastewater Treatment Plant in Koln, Germany, uses ADG generated by the wastewater treatment process to power the PureCell 200 power solution that provides electricity for the facility. System Requirements: 60% methane dual fuel capability flow rate 10 million gallons / day (MGD) gas processing unit (GPU) - pre-designed and ETV tested Power Plant Rating (Anaerobic Digester Gas) Electrical Efficiency 35% Overall Efficiency 85% The Wastewater Treatment Plant in Bronx, New York, powers three PureCell 200 solutions. Collectively these units save New York City about 9,000 barrels of oil annually, in addition to providing other environmental benefits. Methane reacts with steam to produce hydrogen which powers the Fuel Cell Anaerobic Digester Gas (ADG) powered fuel cell system diagram. Gas Processing Unit (GPU) - Pretreats ADG removing sulfur and halide compounds - Delivers pretreated gas to the power module H 2 S(gas) + O 2 (gas) = H 2 O(gas) + S(solid sulfur)
