7 X-MED Extreme loading of marine energy devices due to waves, current, flotsam and mammal impact Objectives: To identify the physical processes governing extreme loading of marine energy devices To develop experimental methodologies to evaluate extreme loading and response. To develop and evaluate computational techniques and design methods for predicting extreme loading and response.

9 Hydrodynamics of deformable flexible fabric structures for wave energy conversion The compressible device has a resonance period longer than that of a rigid device of the same shape and size. Varying the amount of air in the bag changes the shape of the bag and hence its dynamic response. Varying the turbine damping or the connected air volume changes the dynamic response without changing the shape. Small-scale measurements agree with numerical predictions.
