3 QUESTION 6 The Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric scheme is one of the most complex hydro-electric power plants in the world. It took 25 years to build and employed over 100,000 people from over 30 countries. Hydro Tasmania also generates a large amount of hydro power in ustralia, utilising the high rainfall and mountainous terrain of Tasmania and other ustralian states, and has recently been expanding further into the Pacific area. In the period , the total amount of electricity produced by hydro-electric schemes in ustralia was 15,400 GWh. This equated to 7.2% of all of the electricity generated in that year.
