6 5.1.2 CONTROL CYCLE FIGURE 3 CONTROL CYCLE To calculate the control cycle: Start a valve (with no crop). Check for stable system flow. Prepare to measure time. Open dosing channel 1. Measure time in seconds from when you open the dosing channel until you get a increased reading on EC / ph probes. Repeat for each channel. One can use more than one channel per fertiliser solution to increase the dosing capacity, thus increasing maximum system flow rate. 2. The minimum flow rate per channel can be limited by one or a combination of the following: Needle valve, dosing meter, visual flow meter range or venturi injector motive flow. 3. This limitation is due to capacity of the HydroMix chamber. 4. Dosing channels are limited to 10% acid concentration. On request, Netafim can supply a special channel for 10% - 98% acid concentration. (40 l/h) 5. All units have 16 mm hose connections to fertiliser tanks. Use 40mm Class 12 or 50 mm Class 12 upvc from tank to within 0.5 metre of the dosing unit. The tank bases must be 0.6m higher than the dosing unit s base. 6. The FertiKit PB only facilitates EC / ph monitoring. Use the FertiKit Inline for EC / ph control, limited to 10 m³/h system flow rate (10 l/m³ per channel). * Amps for start-up. 7. Allow two PVC double union ball valves to connect the dosing unit to the irrigation mainline (one for the inlet and one for the outlet) in sizes 40mm (FertiKit BP), 50mm (FertiKit Inline and NetaJet Bypass) or 63mm (NetaJet Inline and NetaJet HF) as the case may be. Use 40/12, 50/12 or 63/12 upvc pipe. 8. Inlet and Outlet distance on mainline. For EC ph options 2m for straight pipe and 1m if using a baffle or two elbows in the mainline to assist with mixing. Other dosing methods 1m. 9. Channel calibration [Irrigation Pulse]: EC ph Control = 60% to 80% [< 30 minutes], Flow on Flow = 40% to 80% [> 30 minutes] and Quantity or Time (bulk or spread) dosing = 10% to 80% [> 120 minutes]. 10. Control Cycle [X 4 Unit from Mainline]: EC ph Control = 6 to 12 seconds [ 1m], Flow on Flow = 9 to 18 seconds [ 2m] and Quantity or Time (bulk or spread) dosing = not applicable [ 3m]. 11. 13 5.1.6 INSTALLATION FERTILISER AND CHEMICAL SUCTION LINES Use protective equipment, gloves and goggles when handling fertilisers, acid and other chemicals. Use 40/12 or 50/12 upvc pipe from fertiliser / acid tanks to dosing suction fittings. Only use moulded PVC connectors. All PVC pipes must be connected with solvent welded PVC sockets. FIGURE 8.
