2 Analysis of Sports Performance Assessment 1 Scenario You are assisting the Sports Scientist at a football club to gain performance analysis on a group of apprentices. To gather this evidence, you have been asked to prepare a performance profile for a typical apprentice footballer to demonstrate your understanding of the subject area. You will also need to provide information on factors which will influence their performance within the training and games programme. Outcomes 1 and 2 Assessment Criteria P1, P2, M1, D1 Assessment method For this assessment you need to submit an information pack produced using a suitable IT package Grading If you are working towards a pass you must attempt all the pass criteria If you are working towards a merit you must attempt all the pass and merit criteria If you are working towards a distinction you must attempt all the pass, merit and distinction criteria Suggested reading for this assessment: Textbooks: Hughes, M. and Franks, I. (2008). The Essentials of Performance Analysis: An Introduction. Routledge: UK. Stafford-Brown, J.S., Rea, S. and Manley C. (2010) BTEC National Sport: Level 3: Performance and Excellence. 2nd edn. Hodder Education. Websites:
3 Task 1 Produce a report for the sport scientist to describe the performance profile of a chosen apprentice. Part Grading Criteria Completed? a) Describe the performance P1 b) Explain the performance M1 c) Analyse the performance D1 Useful Tips To achieve P1 you need to produce a written report to describe the performance profile of an athlete of your choice. For example: Outline the chosen of the athlete. Use appropriate diagrams where necessary. The performance profile should include the following aspects: Physiological Physical Technical Tactical Psychological Biomechanical Remember to use the information in the NVQ log book and information gathered with the Gamebreaker software at the club. To achieve M1 you need to explain the performance profile of your selected athlete. You should explain why or how the separate key aspects of the performance profile are important to the overall performance of the selected. For example: The performance profile for Omar Daley includes speed and agility as these factors play a major role in his performance as a winger. He uses his speed to accelerate past opposition defenders, both with and without the ball to create attacking situations for his team. To achieve D1 you must analyse the performance profile. Identify how the components of the performance profile fit together and how much each component contributes to the overall performance.
4 Task 2 For the second part of your report you must describe the factors that may influence performance. Part Grading Criteria Completed? a) Describe five factors that may influence the performance of an athlete P2 Useful Tips To achieve P2 you need to describe at least five factors that may influence the performance of an athlete. Ensure to consider both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Below is a list of some factors that may affect performance: Intrinsic Factors Motivation Previous training Diet Age Health Confidence Ability level Extrinsic Factors Weather conditions Opposition performance Officials Group dynamics Group cohesion Remember that intrinsic and extrinsic factors don t just negatively influence an athlete s performance.
