1 Acceleration Systems LLC Cloud-Based Internet Acceleration 1 RBA LOGIN Install the Remote Business Accelerator (RBA) following the instructions shipped with the RBA. The connection can be any network that connects to the RBA, such as: Direct Ethernet cable connection using any of the LAN ports (2 through 6) on the RBA Ethernet cable connection to a local router or switch that is using any of the LAN ports (2 through 6) on the RBA WiFi connection to a local WiFi router that is using any of the LAN ports (2 through 6) on the RBA Open a browser on the laptop or workstation and enter localrba.accelerationsystems.com in the address block and press Enter. The RBA will respond by displaying the RBA Login Panel shown in Figure 2, below. March 30, 2015 Page 1

2 Figure 2: RBA Login Panel Enter the Username localadmin with the RBA serial number as the password. The serial number is on the label on the bottom of the RBA. Left Click the [Login] button or press enter. The RBA displays the RBA User GUI opened to the Status Dashboard, as shown in Figure 3, below. March 30, 2015 Page 2

3 Figure 3: Status Dashboard 1.1 NETWORK QUALITY REPORT Each time you open the Dashboard (automatically at login or by returning to the Dashboard from another page), the system executes MTR to estimate network quality. While MTR is running, the widget displays Running Network Quality Test... When the test completes, the results are displayed in the Network Quality Report widget. MTR may require 15 to 20 seconds to execute before the report is displayed. The Network Quality Report widget displays a summary for segments of the Internet from the RBA to the AS cloud server. Click the View Report link at the bottom of the Network Quality Report widget to see the full MTR report. MTR investigates the network connection between the host MTR runs on (the RBA in this case) and a host named in the command (the AS cloud server in this case) by sending packets with purposely low TTLs. It continues to send packets with low TTL, noting the response time of the intervening routers. This allows MTR to print the response percentage and response times of the internet route to the named host. A sudden increase in packet loss or response time is often an indication of a bad (or simply overloaded) link. March 30, 2015 Page 3

4 Please see Diagnosing Network Issues with MTR for a detailed discussion of the MTR report content and results interpretation. 2 FACTORY DEFAULT RESET This section provides a recovery procedure that resets the RBA to AS factory default configuration. 2.1 FACTORY DEFAULT RESET Use the following process to restore the RBA to factory default configuration. This will recover from configuration changes that block access to the graphical User Interface (GUI.) Power OFF the RBA. Do one click of the power button (located next to the power cable) and wait for the lights to go out for a clean shutdown. The power button will go from dark (indicating power on) to red (Indicating power connected but RBA is off.) See Figure 1 on page 1. Use the wait time to prep a paper clip so that you have a pin about 1 inch long. Power ON the RBA with one click of the power button. You will have about 40 seconds while the RBA runs the boot process to insert the paperclip pin in the reset hole (located near the edge of the RBA away from the power button, see Figure 1 on page 1) and wait for 3 tones to sound marking the start of the 3 seconds reset period. Hold the pin in (you should feel the switch close) until you hear a long tone indicating that the RBA will reset to factory default configuration. If the RBA is connected to the Internet it will automatically reload all base function. If the RBA is not connected to the Internet it will reload the operating system only to restore the GUI. If necessary, at this point you can re-configure the RBA for Static WAN IP, PPPoE, etc. to reconnect to the internet The next time the RBA boots and is connected to the Internet it will load the AS factory default functions. Note: Currently, configuration changes made before the boot will be lost when the RBA is rebooted as part of the load. You will need to reenter any configuration changes after the reboot. This configuration will be backed up and maintained across any future boot or update. This reentry will be eliminated in a future release. March 30, 2015 Page 4

5 3 UPNP AND NAT-PMP ENABLE OR DISABLE Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is a set of networking protocols that permits networked devices, such as personal computers, printers, Internet gateways, Wi-Fi access points and mobile devices to seamlessly discover each other's presence on the network and establish functional network services for data sharing, communications, and entertainment. UPnP NAT Port Mapping Protocol (NAT-PMP) is a network protocol for establishing network address translation (NAT) settings and port forwarding configurations automatically without user effort. The protocol automatically determines the external IPv4 address of a NAT gateway, and provides means for an application to communicate the parameters for communication to peers. NAT-PMP is used by Aple products and is intended primarily for residential networks without enterprise-class devices. 3.1 DISABLE UPNP AND NAT-PMP UPnP and NAT-PMP are enabled by default on the RBA. Most enterprise networks do not allow either UPnP or NAT-PMP for security reasons. If your RBA is installed in an enterprise environment that restricts the use of the protocols, you can easily disable the feature as follows. Logon to your RBA as described in RBA Login on page 1. Click the [Services] button in the stack on the left side and select UPnP & NAT-PMP from the bottom of the list to display the Services: UPnP & NAT-PMP configuration panel as shown in Figure 4, below. 7 3.2 ENABLE UPNP AND NAT-PMP UPnP and NAT-PMP are enabled by default on the RBA so you should not have to change this setting unless it has be previously disabled. You can easily enable the feature as follows. Logon to your RBA as described in RBA Login on page 1. Click the [Services] button in the stack on the left side and select UPnP & NAT-PMP from the bottom of the list to display the Services: UPnP & NAT-PMP WAN configuration panel as shown in Figure 5, below. 8 Check the 3 check boxes on the first 3 parameters, (Enable UPnP & NAT-PMP, Allow UPnP Port Mapping, and Allow NAT-PMP Port Mapping. At External Interface elect the WAN interface. At Interfaces select the LAN interfaces that will support the service (normally all 5 interfaces.) The UPnP-PMP Settings should look like Figure 6 below. Enable UPnP and NAT-PMP is complete. 4 STATIC WAN ADDRESS First, have the following information available from your ISP: Assigned IP Subnet mask Gateway IP Address DNS server addresses Logon to your RBA as described in RBA Login on page 1. Click the [Interfaces] button in the stack on the left side and select WAN from the list to display the Interfaces WAN configuration panel as shown in Figure 7, below. March 30, 2015 Page 8

Click the dropdown arrow next to the DHCP and select Static IPv4 from the list, as shown in Figure 8, below. Figure 8: IPv4 Configuration Type set to Static IPv4 The RBA will display an additional configuration section for static IPv4 as shown in Figure 8 below. Figure 9: Static IPv4 configuration Enter the static IPv4 address from your ISP in the box (for example, in Figure 5) and select the subnet mask from the drop down list (for example, 29 in Figure 5.) 10 At IPv4 Upstream Gateway click the add a new one link to display the Add new gateway panel as shown in Figure 10, below. Figure 10: Add new gateway Verify that the Default gateway checkbox has a checkmark. If desired, edit the default Gateway Name. Enter the Gateway IPv4 address from your ISP (for example, as shown in Figure 10.) Enter a short Description (for example, Example as shown in Figure 10.) Left click the [Save Gateway] button to save your gateway definition. After completing the save, the RBA will display the new gateway as shown in Figure 11, below. 11 Click the [Save] button at the bottom of the panel to save your Static IPv4 address definition. You may have to scroll down to see the [Save] button. NOTE: The RBA automatically saves each configuration change on the RBA with a backup on the Acceleration Systems servers. AS technical support can assist with recovery of a previous configuration. When the save is complete the system will display the Apply Changes warning at the top of the panel. See Figure 12 below. Click the [Apply Changes] button to apply the Static IPv4 configuration.
