7 The legal bit All placements have to be assessed for Health & Safety to ensure that they are suitable for pre-16 students Every employer we use must have valid Employer Liability Insurance There are legal restrictions on what pre-16 students are allowed to do in the workplace All students and parents must sign a consent form and agreement
8 Finding a placement There are two ways to find a placement: Use the work experience database to find possible placements Find your own placement through friends, contacts, family etc.
9 Work Experience Database All students will be given a login for the database The database contains details of possible placements in the local area The search facility enables students to look at specific places in the area or focus on particular employment sectors All the placements on the database have been approved for work experience. 11 Organising your own placements A lot of students find their placement through contacts they have with friends and family Placements can be anywhere in the country (placements abroad are at the Headtea her s discretion) All employers must have valid Employers Liability Insurance even if it is a family contact
12 Choosing a suitable placement Have you got a career idea in mind that you would like to try out? Could you do a placement linked to one of your favourite subjects? What kind of working environment would you prefer? How mobile are you? Is transport going to be an issue? Look for a challenge

15 Application Procedures All students will need to complete the Selection Form Students selecting from the database must complete Section A with 3 possible choices Students who have organised their own placement must complete Section B - giving full contact details of the employer and confirmation that they have valid ELI
16 Form 1 The Selection Form Section A to be completed if selecting form the Veryan Database Section B is to be completed if you are organising your own placement
17 Database Applications Students will be allocated one of their 3 choices once they know this they must: Complete an application form and send it to the employer (either electronically or by post) If the employer accepts the application the placement will be confirmed on our system and a consent form generated Students will be asked to contact their placement at least 2 weeks before they start to confirm details If the employer says no, we will help them find an alternative
18 Letter to Employer and Application Form
19 Own Placement Once we have the details of the employer we will: Check the placement for ELI and Health & Safety via the Placement Service Once cleared, the placement will be entered onto our system and consent forms generated Students who have organised their own placement do not need to complete the application form DEADLINE: We must have all this information by Christmas
