7 Total Rewards Principles Overarching Principles Mission, Values, Strategy Total Rewards must reflect and support the port s mission, values and long-term business strategy, nurture our unique culture, and grow our business. Employees Total Rewards must support employees performing their best, as well as their growth and well-being. Sustainability Total Rewards must be managed in a fiscally responsible way that is sustainable over time, and Total Rewards decisions must recognize the financial impact on our organization, customers and community. Inclusiveness Total Rewards must be applied fairly and consistently among all employees to support one organization working to accomplish overall port goals. Core Pay Principles! Pay should be at market average! Pay increase should be market competitive! Similar pay for similar work is important There are similar statements for Benefits, Recognition, Learning and Development and Port Experience.
8 ! A geocacher hides a geocache, lists it on Geocaching.com and challenges others to find it using our Geocaching app or a GPS device.! At minimum, geocaches contain a logbook for finders to sign. After signing, finders log their experience on Geocaching.com or with the Geocaching app and earn a reward in the form of a digital smiley.! Some geocaches contain small trinkets for trade. If a geocacher takes something from the geocache, they replace it with something of equal or greater value. Geocaching s mission is to inspire outdoor play using location-based technology.! Geocaches are put back where they were found for the next geocacher. The Geocaching Logo is a registered trademark of Groundspeak, Inc. Used with permission.
9 Total Rewards! It was founded in 2000 after the the U.S. government turned off Selective Availability, a feature which limited the accuracy of GPS signals for civilians.! In 2011, Geocaching undertook a project to clearly link the organization s mission to it s total rewards plans and programs.! We want employees to feel like this is a great place to work.! The result was a definition of total rewards, the development of a total rewards philosophy, an inventory of reward programs and a roadmap for areas needing further development.

11 Lessons Learned! Keep Executives engaged along the way! Engage leaders before engaging employees! Implementation is a phase of development! The Total Rewards journey will continue beyond implementation! You may be implementing some plans or programs even as you re developing others
12 Lessons Learned! Above all else, know your organization:! Dovetail marketing and communication with what is happening throughout your organization! Consider implications as broadly as possible! Employees won't love everything you're going to communicate or change.
