Experience of using Word, Excel, PowerPoint to produce documents, presentations and reports is essential. A relevant third level course in childcare, social care, psychology or related discipline is essential. A recognised qualification in training is desirable. At least one of the following is highly desirable: Experience working in the childcare and/ child and family support sector. Knowledge and experience of QQI Accreditation. Experience of managing issues related to CP in the context of training delivery. Barnardos supports children whose well being is under threat, by working with them, their families and communities and by campaigning for the rights of children. Barnardos was established in Ireland in 1962 and is Irelands leading Children s charity. What does the Best Practice Training and Consultancy Department service do? The Best Practice, Training and Consultancy service supports the ongoing development and delivery of quality needs-led and outcome focused services. It has both an internal and external remit. The internal focus is on service design, practice development, auditing and monitoring, practice related training and research and evaluation. The department also provides the external interface for Barnardos information, publications, service design and best practice models, training and practice development support. What does the training department do? The training team are responsible for designing, co-ordinating and delivering external training events. The training events are designed based on a combination of current thinking and evidence based practice. A range of high quality and innovative training programmes are provided. The training aims to strengthen children services practitioners knowledge and skills with the ultimate aim of benefiting children. What will the Training Officer do? The role will support the development and delivery of an annual programme of public and tailor made training. The training officer is responsible for responding to requests for training and consultancy, by identifying needs, agreeing costs and design and provision of suitable trainers and delivery of training. The Training officer is responsible for keeping training records and writing reports as required. In addition, the role involves liaising with and providing support to the training panel members to promote quality. Where we work: This role is based in our National office, in 4 Christchurch Square, Dublin 8 with a requirement to travel nationally as required. Who do we work with? 3 Training Officer Best Practice Training and Consultancy Service (BPTC) Job Description Post: Location: Responsible to: Works with: Training Officer Christchurch Square with national travel. Best Practice Officer BPTC team and regionally with Barnardos staff. Job Purpose To assist the manager in developing and delivering the training services of the BPTC in accordance with Barnardos ethos and strategy. To ensure NCIP Programme training commitments are fulfilled. To provide support in responding to training needs in accordance with Barnardos values and policies. Core Job Requirements To support the development and delivery of an annual programme of public training events and tailor-made training. To design and deliver quality training events based in line with best practice, current legislation and Barnardos ethos. To assist the training manager in liaising with voluntary, community and statutory agencies on promoting and providing training on child related issues and other BPTC services including membership and publications. To develop and maintain appropriate relationships with external agencies in order to ensure that the needs of both Barnardos and service users are met in an integrated and coordinated manner. To respond to requests for training and consultancy, in collaboration with the training manager, from voluntary and statutory agencies, community and parent groups, by accurately identifying training needs, agreeing costs and design and provision of suitable trainers. To support the panel of trainers who provide training and consultancy on behalf of the BPTC. A key aspect of this is to promote quality of delivery. To support the development and delivery of QQI accredited courses.

4 To line manage the training administrator, providing regular supervision. Ensuring that high quality is adhered to in all aspects of the work. Ensuring that the protection and welfare of children is a primary concern of all staff and that, when child protection issues arise, Barnardos policies and procedures are adhered to fully. Ensuring that legislation and statutory guidelines, organisational policy are fully implemented within your area of responsibility. Ensuring that programmes are planned, delivered and evaluated in response to the needs of Barnardos and service users. Ensuring effective communication within Barnardos within your area of responsibility. Preparing reports on the work as required. Ensuring all training files, financial and administrative records within your area of responsibility are maintained to a high standard. Contributing to the overall development of good practice within the organisation. To show reasonable flexibility in relation to hours of attendance to meet the needs of the work. Work during unsocial hours may be required. Requirements of all Barnardos staff Commitment to the purpose of Barnardos and to work within the values, policies and procedures of the organisation and in the context of current legislation and regulations. To participate in regular supervision with your line manager. To actively participate in team and staff meetings and service reviews/ evaluations and to contribute to the development of policy and practice with your area of work and within Barnardos as a whole. To report any area of concern to your line manager in a timely manner. Have a flexible approach to the work in response to organisational change, development and review of best practice. To show reasonable flexibility in relation to hours of attendance to meet the needs of the work. Work during unsocial hours may be required. Participate in and engage with a performance management programme. Identify training needs with your line manager and participate in training opportunities appropriate to the role.

Training Officer Person Specification Qualifications Person Specific A relevant third level course in childcare, social care, psychology or related discipline is essential. A recognised qualification in training is desirable. Personal attributes Excellent facilitation skills and communication skills. Knowledge of developments regarding training issues in the childcare and/ child and family support sector. Knowledge of Child Protection Policy and Procedures. Ability to consult with service users and identify training needs. Ability to plan, design and deliver training relevant to the childcare sector. Ability to work as part of a team and in collaboration with others. Ability to prioritise competing demands. Ability to write clear reports as required. Ability to work on own initiative and to consult where appropriate. Flexibility and adaptability in terms of tasks and time is essential for this post. Ability to supervise staff appropriately and in accordance with Barnarodos policies.
