Learning outcomes (the learner will) Understand conflict management in the workplace Assessment criteria Identify causes of conflict at work Describe the stages in the development of conflict Explain the effects of conflict on individual and team performance at work Explain any recognised technique a manager could use to minimise and resolve conflict in the workplace Describe how a manager could promote a positive atmosphere in order to minimise the adverse effects of conflict
5 Module 5 Understanding how to motivate to improve performance The learner will be able to develop knowledge and understanding of motivation theory and how it can be applied in the workplace to improve performance as required by a practising or potential first line manager. Learning outcomes (the learner will) Understand the factors that influence motivation levels in the workplace Understand how a theory of motivation can be used to improve performance levels Assessment criteria Define the term motivation Describe the factors that may affect motivation levels in the workplace Explain how individual differences affect levels of motivation in the workplace Explain the potential impact on organisational performance if employee motivation levels are low Describe a recognised theory of motivation Describe ways in which knowledge of a theory of motivation can be used to improve performance in the workplace Explain how to use employee engagement to increase motivation levels

The learner will be able to develop knowledge and understanding of the communication process in the workplace as required by a practising or potential first line manager. Learning outcomes (the learner will) Be able to plan a briefing or presentation Be able to conduct a briefing or presentation Be able to evaluate a briefing or presentation Assessment criteria Identify appropriate information in line with the objectives of the briefing or presentation Prepare a plan for the content of the briefing or presentation Use appropriate presentation techniques and aids to enhance understanding of the topic of briefing or presentation Present information clearly and logically Present information within agreed time limits Respond to questions raised accurately and clearly Design a simple evaluation form to gather feedback on briefing or presentation Use feedback to identify areas for improvement in presentation skills
