Take up to three minutes to briefly introduce yourself, perhaps highlighting aspects that we could not glean from your resume and then explain your motivation for applying for this position. In other words, what brings you to us today? 2. What have you learned about the Town of Manchester and the Manchester Fire Department? What challenges do you see facing the Department in the upcoming year? How do you envision addressing these challenges? 3. How important is training? What is your experience developing and delivering fire department training programs? Include both career and call fire fighters.

What do you feel is the ideal shift schedule for a combination career and call department? Why is this your preferred model? No model is perfect what are some shortcomings to your preferred model? What can you do to overcome these shortcomings? 6. Describe how you involve and motivate your career Fire Fighters? Call Fire Fighters? Please use specific examples. 7. What lessons have you learned about what makes for a successful call fire fighter pool? Tell us about any successes you have had bolstering the ranks of call fire fighters?

What are the differences between your most recent positon and the position of Fire Chief in Manchester by the Sea? How have you approached such transitions before? 11. What are three principles that you will use to guide you as the Fire Chief in Manchester by the Sea? What do you view as the primary roles of the Manchester Fire Department?

How would you build relationships and collaborate with the Manchester Harbor Master, DPW, and Manchester Police Department? What about relationships with surrounding communities? 15. What sets you apart from other candidates? Why is MBTS a good fit for you?

What factors have you used in making these decisions? How have you explained this to community members, leadership and your staff? 17. Why are these your top three?? 18. What are the factors you have used to determine the need and level of overtime and detail, beyond recommended minimum staffing levels? 19. What motivates you? Why are you in the fire profession? How do you keep fresh and alert to innovation? Give us some examples of innovative measures you have implemented.
