1 Assessment Task for Stage 6: HSC Subject: Legal Studies Student s Name: Teacher s Name: Assessment Task No. 3 Due Date: 17 June 2016 Weighting 25% THIS ASSESSMENT TASK CAN BE FOUND ON THE COLLEGE WEBSITE UNDER THE LEARNING AND TEACHING TAB OR IN YOUR GOOGLE CLASSROOM Submission Instructions PART A Submit the task by placing it in the Assessment Bin at the Student Foyer by 9:00am This cover sheet must be attached to the task. Times New Roman 12 point font is to be used. Penalty for non attendance on day of assessment or late submission o Assessments submitted after 9.00am on the due date will immediately receive a 50% mark penalty of the achieved mark. o Assessments submitted after 9.00am on the next day will receive a zero mark pending Illness/Misadventure certification and will still have to submit the task to fulfil the requirements of the course. A student who fails to present / perform at the allocated time will be awarded a zero and a revised date for the presentation / performance. PART B This is an in-class task that will be completed during your lesson in period 2, Friday 17 th June. You will be given 50 minutes to complete the task. Penalty for non attendance On the date of the assessment will immediately receive a 50% mark penalty of the achieved mark pending Illness/Misadventure certification. On the day following the assessment will receive a zero mark pending Illness/Misadventure certification. PLEASE NOTE: THIS TASK WILL NOT BE ASSESSED BY YOUR TEACHER UNLESS YOU HAVE ASSESSED YOUR PERFORMANCE BY HIGHLIGHTING OR TICKING THE APPROPRIATE BOXES ON THE ATTACHED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA Outcomes being Assessed H1. Explains the role of law in encouraging cooperation and resolving conflict, as well as initiating and responding to change H6. Locates, selects, organises, synthesises and analyses legal information from a variety of sources including legislation, cases, media, international instruments and documents H9. Communicates legal information using well-structured and logical arguments H10. Analyses differing perspectives and interpretations of legal information and issues

3 TASK DETAILS 1. Description of the Task PART A - 10% You are asked to write a 800 word Legal Studies Case Report on the Contemporary Issue Recognition of Same Sex Relationships In your report you must: Explain the changes to family law as a response to changing values in society referring to cases or media reports. In your report you must: o Integrate at least one case or media article that supports your answer o Present a structured answer using relevant terminology o Provide a detailed and extensive reference list. Referring to the College Diary PART B - 15% This is an in-class task that will be completed during your lesson in period 2, Friday 17 th June. You will be given 50 minutes to complete the task. You are permitted to bring ONE A4 single sided piece of paper with any written study material that will assist you in your response. It is to be submitted along with your response and must ONLY contain written study material (Notes, quotes, cases, legislation, media reports). NO PREPARED PIECES OF WRITING WILL BE ACCEPTED. You are asked to write a 1000 word extended response in class answering the following question. Evaluate the effectiveness of the legal and. In your response you will be assessed on how well you: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding relevant to the question Make a judgement based on criteria Present a sustained, logical and cohesive response using relevant legal terminologies Make detailed reference to legal information from a variety of sources including: o Legislation o Cases o Media o International instruments and documentation Terms used in the assessing of this task: Explain: Relate cause and effect; make relationship between things evident; provide why and why not Evaluate: Make a judgement based on criteria; determine the value of
