2 Every day as safety professionals we face challenges. Some big, some small. Over the past year we have been focusing on some challenges to problems by providing practical solutions to reduce risk, reduce cost and improving efficiency. There are 3 key elements that I have learnt whilst working on these items will be shared today.

8 Have open dialogue with people ask them what and where the problems are Everybody has their own opinions. We should value their inputs. By not valuing peoples inputs you can instantly distract them. Things they have seen elsewhere can add value.

9 Analysing the problem should have a number of deciding factors Hazards Identification and Risk Analysis The extent of the problem in the immediate and surrounding areas Is this a problem at other sites and what are they doing? Who is involved in the task and why? Why is it done in this particular manner? What is the present method? Is it the right equipment? Does it suit our business doing it this way? Or Has it always been done like this?

15 Activity During a standard MED Outage a 1.5t motor and pump had to be removed for maintenance. To do this a mobile crane is required. The platform grating has to be removed from the walkway at height for crane hook access. Once removed the crane hook can be lowered through the opening to lift the motor and pump. There are also other motors around site that are difficult to reach using the site mobile crane or overhead crane and previously we have used a scaffold lifting frame.
