Dr. Loritts is Senior Pastor of Fellowship Bible Church and the author of seven books. John Van Drunen, Vice President of ECFA, will focus on recent legislative and legal updates and tax, finance, and accounting developments. 6 Session Descriptions Keynote: The Anatomy of Pressure Presented by Dr. Crawford Loritts, Senior Pastor, Fellowship Bible Church Pressure is a part of life. It is unpredictable and often unanticipated. The question is not whether we will experience pressure, but how we will handle it when it comes. God has an answer and a plan. In this session we will highlight that answer and plan. 7 Session 3: Strategic Planning for Healthcare Reform Presented by Brad Gauen, Consultant, Marsh Consulting Group Learn how to move beyond merely understanding and complying with health care reform. We will explore some of the complex provisions you need to know so that you can fully consider the implications and options for your organization. We will discuss how health care reform will affect your organization and when and show you how to create a framework for developing a long-term strategic plan for health care reform. This session will cover changes in IRS structure, UBIT and compensation updates, changes to Form 990, various 2013 rulings, and what we expect to see in the future. 9 Breakout 2 Nonprofit Accounting Update Presented by Gregg Capin, Partner and National Director of Business Development, CapinCrouse This session will highlight the most recent developments affecting nonprofit accounting and financial reporting, including an update on the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) projects and recent pronouncements, as well as the new AICPA Audit and Accounting Guide for Not-for-Profit Entities. [CPE: Governmental Accounting] Board Governance Issues and Trends Presented by John Van Drunen, Vice President and General Counsel, ECFA This session will discuss board governance issues and trends for churches and nonprofit organizations. We will highlight issues raised in the ECFA Governance Survey and discuss issues governing bodies may need to address in coming days. 10 Learning Objectives Recognize that God loves us and cares about every concern, issue, and circumstance we experience; understand God s answer and plan and how He will step into our circumstances and redeem them Identify recent key legislative and regulatory changes and accountability issues that are impacting churches and nonprofit organizations, and plan for how they may affect your organization Define how the new variables of affordability, minimum value, penalties, and exchanges will affect your health plan as well as your employees; identify four strategies employers can use for dealing with health care reform; and plan for additional direct and indirect costs Apply best practices for reviewing and assessing technology options to improve your organization s business processes and effectiveness in a cost-efficient manner Identify recent activity and updates by the IRS in the nonprofit arena and assess the impact for your organization; plan for future changes and rulings Understand how the donor world is changing, particularly regarding major donors, and develop strategies and approaches that are responsive to emerging new donor realities Discern the nature and status of FASB not-for-profit industry projects and recent pronouncements, and understand and assess how key not-for-profit accounting changes may apply to your organization Recognize trends in governance for churches and nonprofits and understand the key issues your governing body may need to address; determine which available tools and resources can help enhance governance within your organization
