Why Train?... Why not? Our customers like to talk to staff, who know what they are talking about Investing in your staff demonstrates to them, that you are serious about their future and they are more likely to stay We talk about the cost of training yet, as an example, minimum wage including NI costs you approximately 1,340 per month, Our highest module price is 150 for 40 hours learning? You will build a well-trained team of staff, who are more likely to positively effect your sales and margin, than those that are not trained Continued...
Why Train?... Why not? The more capable each member of staff is, the better balance of work load for everyone in the branch or depot No time away from work is needed to learn You demonstrate professionalism/good leadership and have a clear training plan and structure

WHY USE EDA FOR TRAINING Personal experience Training has never been our strongest point. Always promised myself that I would do something about it if I was lucky enough to find myself in a position to do so. To make the difference.
BRIDGE THE GAP The gap is the gulf between the experienced staff and the new starts The time scale taken to bridge this gap We need a way to fast track people We must not rely on the sink or swim mentality
BRIDGE THE GAP Midshires Electrical, became a member of EDA why? Because of the industry specific MOL modules that they offer. I felt that the Modules where something that my business was looking for and would go along way to Bridging that Gap.
How Do We Incorporate the MODS into our Business? From Interview to Induction awareness of our training programme We choose the apprenticeship route so the employee is required to -: Complete the necessary NVQs EDA Modules (Industry specific) Midshires in-house training (System specific)
Train To Gain Incentivise Salary review Assessment Future proof
The Benefits of the modules are.. Industry Specific MOL in conjunction with the EDA L&D group Modules updates Value for money Each module requires approx 40 hours of work to complete, in each subject matter
Content of a module.. The answers have to be researched by Looking at suppliers technical information Team work, discuss with colleagues At the end a project has to be completed Catalogues Product Internet
Content of a module.. When I viewed the Luminaires module recently and looked at the project, they had to show workings on Types Of Fittings Lumens (not watts) LOR of the fitting Lux levels Energy report / calculation
Content of a module.. How long was it in your working career before you encountered these types of references or phrases? Within one year you could have a New Start talking and thinking in this way THAT S BRIDGING THE GAP

Who benefits from this training? After sitting down with a trainee I asked for his honest feed back and he said :-
Who benefits from this training? After sitting down with a trainee I asked for his honest feed back and he said :-
How Do You Order The Modules? Online print the application form Tick the modules required Complete Trainee Details Sign & fax over to the EDA That easy, five minutes and it s done. From that point on - EDA will advise and manage for you.
Feedback From MOL The trainee will receive the marked module back from the MOL, there will be comments added from the assessor There are dedicated numbers that the trainee can call while working through the modules They are never alone; always having someone to talk things through.

Why Do I Buy In To It? Added value :- By investing time and money in good quality industry specific training your team will be geared up to focus just as much on the feature and benefits and not just the price.
Why Do I Buy In To It? Its not about shifting boxes, its about creating opportunities and offering solutions. With increasing sales online you will need to stand out from the crowd, relationships are the key but it must be backed up with credibility /knowledge. Knowledge is not just power, its profit.

EDA Working Group for Learning & Development Barry Brown National Sales Manager CED
Apprenticeships & Vocational Training By common consent, the electrical industry s greatest challenge???
Apprenticeships & Vocational Training With so much focus on customers, we often lose sight of our employees, the critical roles they play in our business and the fact that they are the single greatest ASSET within the organisation, and one that should continually be invested in. It s always instructive to remember that companies are the employees and that customer service and quality are dependent upon all staff being skilled and motivated.
Apprenticeships & Vocational Training One indisputable fact is that those who interact daily with customers know those customers the best, and yet too many businesses take their staff for granted, offer little or no learning & development and yet expect these same employees, miraculously, to treat customers with world-class service.
Plugging the skills gap Candidates pre-selected Applicants not from Job Centre, i.e. better motivated & committed No advertising costs Now!! Youngsters have completed education and pressure from home. Effect on other staff
Plugging the skills gap Try before you buy, e.g. 150/week + 10% = 8580 full year Focus on satisfying internal customers Aids key functional skills, i.e. ICT, Maths, English Old dogs, old tricks Diverse qualifications, e.g. admin, customer service, management Team building
Placed Apprenticeships Placed by EDA L&D Limited Designated apprentice account manager No recruitment, advertising costs Short listed candidates Final interviews and selection by EDA member or affiliate No contract, head-count or payslips
Placed Apprenticeships 12 months gaining knowledge of your business Value for money Cost of apprenticeship qualification funded by government, approx 3.5k Option to offer permanent post at any time Creates next generation Plugs the skills gap
Employed Apprentices (Vocational) From my own experience of EDA NVQs... Builds confidence, e.g. Level 3 = Two x A levels Available to all staff** at all levels, members and affiliates Better knowledge and understanding of work place and its demands Staff retention Heightened learning culture, e.g. regular contact with assessor aids presentation skills **Subject to probationary period, min. 30 hours/week, no degree & EU resident for 3 years
Employed Apprentices (Vocational) From my own experience of EDA NVQs... Focus on satisfying external and internal customers Aids key functional skills, i.e. ICT, Maths, English Old dogs, old tricks helps identify on-going lapses Diverse qualifications, e.g. admin, customer service, management Team building e.g. if two or more members of staff involved
It couldn t be easier The Process.. Complete EOI form and return to EDA placed apprenticeships and employed staff Contact by Apprentice A/C Manger typically within 48 hours Guidance by assessor, e.g. websites, publications NVQ completion within nine months [level 2] or twelve months [level 3] Appoint company L&D contact

In conclusion.. Placed apprentices help create the next generation future proof your team Practical competence and qualifications Available to all members and affiliates alike Enhance the working environment through better knowledge and understanding
In conclusion.. Fill skills gap and improve staff retention Increase customer confidence in YOUR business make YOUR staff YOUR USP Highlights and thus eliminates bad habits Support for members staff Knowledge & know-how set your business apart; PEOPLE = PROFIT!!
