You ll also be given dates for the upcoming workshops. Your appointment for sign up will be booked in for just after your induction, so that you can enrol onto the course. You ll complete all the necessary paperwork and you ll build an individualised training plan with your Lifetime Regional. 5 6 DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE TEAMS (2 DAY) DEVELOPING YOURSELF Providing you with an in depth exploration of the MDP, this workshop encourages you to really reflect on the opportunity you have and to focus on developing the tools you will need to drive your own personal and professional development throughout the programme. You ll be exploring development planning, learning styles, feedback models and objective setting all leading you into your first assignment. PRINCIPLES OF LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT This workshop examines the difference between leadership and management and how each is practically applied at Greene King. As we work towards the assignment for this workshop, you ll be considering what the difference is between a leader and a manager, and what styles we can identify within these areas. You ll also be looking at motivation what is it? How can motivation be influenced in the workplace? We ll explore decision making and how it is important to hone these skills to make effective decisions and you ll also be looking at the functions of management in balancing the needs of a team. Culminating in looking at how we measure performance to help support turning our visions into reality. 4 Greene King Development Programme Greene King Development Programme 5
4 DEVELOPING YOUR BUSINESS In this session, you ll be exploring how to drive your business you ll be thinking about how to identify risk areas in your pub and what you would do to resolve them. How do you measure this impact and what practical application will you have back in your business? This workshop leads to a project that will enable you to do just that. RECRUITMENT, SELECTION & ON BOARDING Having the right people in our businesses is often one of the greatest challenges that face our managers. This session will look at the tools and processes in place to enable you to recruit great team members who are the future of our businesses. You ll be considering how to identify what your recruitment needs are, how you attract people to your pub, select the best candidate and the procedures for appointing them all whilst staying within both legal and ethical guidelines. You ll then explore how to ensure that your perfect candidate receives the best on boarding so they choose to stay and grow with you. DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE TEAMS Your two day workshop will focus on what you do with your people once you have them in place. You ll be looking at how a team develops and grows together, what roles individuals play within a team and how to maximise on their strengths. You ll also consider the differences between managing at team and individual level and will be able to tie this into how you approach giving feedback and performance manage your people. This session will cover the link between reward and recognition, exploring how this can be utilised to best effect. DELIVERING THE BEST BUSINESS RESULTS This final workshop hands the reigns over to you it is your opportunity (within a framework) to showcase your personal and professional development journey, highlighting your achievements over the past 12 months. You will create and deliver a presentation that covers two key elements: A business related project its aims, objectives, implementation and outcomes Your key learnings and applications from the Development Programme ACCESSING SUPPORT The Development Programme is a great opportunity for you to further develop yourself both professionally and personally but to do this, you will need to maximise on all of the support avenues available to you. All candidates have access to ILM research and resources to support their programme and Lifetime have a range of resources on their systems too all available at the click of a mouse. Part of driving your own learning is about seeking support when and where you need it. Take some time to consider where that may come from and where you might need some additional support. CONSIDER: Line Manager They ll have been part of the process from your first application. Take the time to agree with them regular, scheduled catch ups both before and after workshops and throughout the programme. Ensure that you are communicating well and both of you understand the applications of the programme in the workplace. Business Development Manager Your BDM will be interested to watch your development during your time on the programme (remember, they are investing in both your time and resource by nominating you to the MDP). Ask to spend time with them discussing your learnings grab a coffee when they pop in for a visit or schedule time in their diary for a more formal review you may gain some great insights! Lifetime Regional Your RT is there to support you with all aspects of your apprenticeship. They will visit you in pub, review your assignments and feedback to you, as well as schedule calls to check on your progress etc An invaluable resource to you, and one that you can contact at any time for support and advice. Learning & Development Manager You ll see your L&D Manager at each of your workshops. Their job is to ensure you receive all of the learning you need to be able to complete your assignments and apply/implement your new learnings back at your pub. Your L&D Manager will be rooting for you all the way, helping and supporting in any way that they can - you can always drop them a note or give them a call. Peers and Colleagues on Programme What better body of people to give you support than those who are experiencing the same things as you. Spend some time creating relationships with and getting to know your fellow MDP students you ll be sharing top tips, insights and successes for a long time to come. Friends and Family Make sure that you talk to your nearest and dearest about what you are doing this programme will require you to devote some of your personal time to your studies and assignments. 6 HOW THE MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME HAS ELEVATED GILLIAN S CAREER An amazing opportunity to develop your career, learn new skills and raise your profile within the company Gillian Lee, keen to progress her career in management, decided to embark on the Development Programme which included completing her Level 3 Leadership and apprenticeship. During this time she was promoted from Deputy General Manager to General Manager of the Axe and Cleaver Chef and Brewer in Altrincham. I have worked for the company since I was 16 years old, progressing through the stages from team player to a management role in various brands, explains 31-yearold Gillian. In recent years the option to progress your career has really become a big focus and clear career pathways have been set for each role in the business which is a real positive for any company as it really focuses on internal progression and training. I really wanted to progress my career, learn new skills and develop myself so I decided to take the apprenticeship route. The programme has taught me new leadership and management theories which in turn have really helped me understand the importance of being a leader. The on-the-job training has meant I ve developed not only my career but myself too and the networking opportunities have really helped my confidence. Gillian says she would highly recommend embarking on the MDP. It s an amazing opportunity to develop your career, learn new skills and raise your profile within the company. I am a real believer in training and the current career pathway routes are a fantastic way to enhance people s skills and knowledge. It helped massively in my progression and I now promote the career pathway and apprenticeship route to all of my team members, she says. WOW! HOW DO I APPLY? Criteria for application: Must be Assistant/Kitchen Manager looking to progress within months Line Manager backed application Must be able to commit to 10 hours minimum self-study a month To apply to join the next intake of the Development Programme, you will need to have a discussion with your line manager regarding your development to ensure that this is the best path for you. You then need to visit Best for Team/ GK1 under the Apprenticeships section, to complete the MDP expression of interest form and included short assignment. After which you ll be invited to complete an online diagnostic test to finalise your application. This will then be reviewed and once successful you ll be invited to an induction session to commence your enrolment. 10 Greene King Development Programme
