1 Astro-Robotics Olympiad Education Competition + Internship InspireWing Educational Robotics Kits and Courses for Schools, Students, Families Mirnova Academy 1.August.2017 ** For Students, Schools, Teacher, Families, Communities ** Astro-Robotics Olympiad = Real-world Projects with established scientific research teams + Scholarships + Internships. More than a competition. InspireWing UAV Kits and Training = Safe, Personalized, Robust UAVs + Full-year Courseware (75-hours total) including theory + practice, for Teachers to deliver to classes (grades 3-12) Available now for European, American and Korean markets through MIRNOVA Academy. Contact: MIRNOVA Academy contact@mirnova.org 1
2 Astro-Robotics is a project activity that leads directly into internships and apprentice-level work with researchers in academia and industry worldwide. InspireWing offers schools, teachers and families the opportunity to learn all the basics and some advanced subjects for intelligent, safe, responsible use of personal and team-enabled UAVs. Among the unique points of InspireWing --- UAV "quadcopter" ("drone") kits are easier to assemble and operate than typical IKEA furniture. Self-assembly is an important part of learning to use drones intelligently, properly, safely this is part of the UAV Experience for youth and adults of all ages and for all uses! Very simple and robust components. Extraordinarily crash-worthy and easy to maintain. Ready-to-fly with easy controls and robust software. Easy to customize and program with software tools and add-your-own modules. Easy to add new components such as cameras, sensors, and mechanical accessories. Many important safety and security options (e.g., easily programmable to avoid certain locations like airports and other no-go spaces). Each institutional customer (e.g., school) can receive a customized package (UAV kits + spares). "Training the Trainers" - video courseware plus options for individualized, customized onsite or online group training, focused upon teachers but excellent for all audiences. Courseware for students - divided into 50 units, 1.5 hours each (or 100 units, 45-minutes each), covering basic aerodynamics, UAV design, construction and maintenance, circuit engineering, flight operations, microcontroller programming (ARM, Arduino, Rasberry Pi), creative skills, and responsibilities in safety, courtesy, and privacy. Courses tailored for elementary (grades 3-4), middle (grades 5-8) and high school (grades 9-12) levels and interests. Many package/price options available. Ten (10) quadcopter kits plus a training session and support is a sufficient starter-package for a typical middle school or high school. "Price per drone" is under $1,000. Individual quadcopters and other UAVs also available for individual and group purchase. All UAVs come with service contracts and convenient 7-day-a-week support. Contact: MIRNOVA Academy contact@mirnova.org 2
3 "Hack-a-Thon" event planning and coordination also available. Example: Twenty teams, 48 hours to program and prepare, and then demonstrations of fully-autonomous UAV behavior in a controlled airspace with "DANCING DRONES" - UAVs flying in response to accompanying music. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Astro-Robotics Olympiad is more than a "STEM" competition, more than a few weeks, and it can turn into exciting college studies and careers. That is part of its purpose. It offers the opportunity for participants (not limited to high school or college-age students) to be active participants in a large and well-established community of scientists and engineers working worldwide on common problems relating to: cooperative robotics multiple robot types (e.g., air and ground) highly complex systems "NC-machining" with robots including UAVs space-centered research connected with asteroids space debris satellite maintenance space mining and manufacturing Much More Contact: MIRNOVA Academy contact@mirnova.org 3
4 Outcomes from Astro-Robotics participation include internships and apprenticeships for working as part of a research team with an established university, company or other institution. Onsite and online options. Teams work with mentors and advisors and design projects that meet the current-year target objectives. Using UAV and UGV robots, they perform demonstrable performances that emulate the tasks that will be performed by systems in space with asteroids and other space objects, especially those that present potential threats to Earth. Tasks include moving, repositioning, marking, laser-tagging, drilling, carrying, and assembling objects. Operations are both autonomous and human-controlled according to the task and the environment. A variety of hardware and software is provided and teams must develop their own custom add-ons and software modules. Astro-Robotics Olympiad is much more than a "STEM" competition it is an important part of the future Research, Modeling and Experimentation for international space projects like ASTRIC and others from European Space Agency (ESA), Japan Aerospace Exploration Administration (JAXA), Korean Space Agency Achievers are all winners, and among the results are scholarships and internships with well-known institutions around the world. Included among mentors, advisors and sponsors are people and groups from: ESA, DLR, CNRS, ICE, OCA, NASA, GMV, Space Resources, Deimos, Orbital, Airbus, SpaceX, Blue Origin, Ball, Virgin Galatica, and several universities in Europe, Russia, Korea, and USA. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Group events are being scheduled for 2017 (post-september) and 2018 in: USA, Luxembourg, Spain, Germany and Russia. Scholarships range in value and all internships provide paid stipends. Support is through public and private sources including several among the aforementioned organizations. APPLICATIONS and ORDERS are being accepted now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Photos on the following pages include excerpts from the Instruction Manual (it is simple!) and also from a recent Hack-a-Thon that is a Prelude to Astro-Robotics. UAVs flew autonomously and performed acrobatics in sync with musical accompaniment. (Fast-moving and hard to catch and by the way, no accidents or injuries.)
