11 Commuter Bus Service Commuter bus service provides transportation for regional residents for DC based employers. Region-wide service in 15 counties and cities Majority of the service provides connections to locations in the city with high federal employment Heaviest volume occurs during AM and PM peak (7:00am- 9:30am, 3:30pm-6:30pm) Approximately over 200 plus buses travelling daily in the District Monday-Friday Time sensitive schedules similar to Metro bus service

12 District Commuter Bus Regulations DCMR Title 24, Ch. 33 A permit will be required for the placement of signs in public space Rental fee required for the placement of signs Permit will describe specifications for signs Operational plan Immediate implementation Resolves current issues Standardizes operations on public space Establish ongoing committee regarding commuter bus operations hosted by DDOT

13 Intercity Bus Service Intercity bus service provides low cost transportation for residents in the Washington DC region Majority of the service provides connections to Washington to New York Demand for additional destinations from Washington Region increasing(richmond, Philadelphia, Roanoke, Raleigh/Durham) Several major carriers provide the bulk of the service Bolt Megabus DC2NY Washington Deluxe Other smaller carriers (Eastern, Tony Bus Lines, New Century, Knowit Express)

14 District Intercity Bus Regulations Regulations have been passed pertaining to intercity bus service and the use of public space(revision to DCMR title 24, Ch. 2, sec 225; new chapter 35) Carriers are required to hold a permit for each space where they load and unload in public space Guidelines are provided on the selection of appropriate curbside locations The permit holder is required to indicate specific routes in the District and locations of signs Permit holder must post and maintain a sign at each pick-up and drop-off location

17 Motorcoach Action Plan: Next Steps Short Term: 0-12 Months Identify 39 additional curbside locations for motorcoach activity Mid Term: 1-2 Years Indentify off-street parking facility Enhance and integrate technology (permitting/parking) Long Term: 2+ Years Construct off-street parking facility

20 NPS Parking Meters NPS plans to meter parking locations along NPS owned roads surrounding the National Mall Metering Goals: Manage the public parking turnover allowing more visitors access to park sites. Encourage the use of public transit and other transportation alternatives. Use parking revenue to improve and make more affordable visitor transportation related activities inside the park.
