The fire and emergency services must respond to a wide range of incidents, ranging from road traffic accidents, to fires, flooding, storm damages and many more. Special equipment is needed for every one of these situations and must be transported to the scene of the operation as quickly as possible. For this logistic challenge, Rosenbauer has developed robust mobile equipment carrier systems, which fit into any standard fire fighting vehicle. The mobile equipment carrier can be custom designed to match any demand at the emergency scene. Ideally, a variety of carriers are available to the emergency forces, each individual carriers carrying specific equipment and supplies for a certain purpose. The most frequently used MECs can be kept on board the vehicle, less frequently used MEC can be stored in the fire station. Such a system greatly simplifies the logistic challenges in case of a major emergency, enabling quick transport of equipment needed at the emergency scene with minimized manpower requirements. The mobile equipment carriers all come in standard EU palette dimensions of 1.2 x 0.8 m and have an integrated braking system. There are no protruding parts, space efficient storage on a vehicle is achieved. This means that several MECs can be loaded onto a vehicle either side by side, or in a line. It is an efficient and ideal method of equipment transport, especially when the incident scene cannot be directly approached. The mobile equipment carriers employed by the fire and emergency services must be extremely robust and durable. Therefore, Rosenbauer MECs are made from tough, top quality materials, corrosion-free aluminum alloys and stainless steel. Loads of up to 400 kg can be easily transported to the incident scene by a single operator. Highly functional wheels are absolutely vital for easy movement. Consequently, as a standard feature, Rosenbauer s MECs are fitted with first class, highly durable wheels made from synthetic material of best quality. Comfortable, signalcolor handle bars, a brake lever, two fixed and two swivel wheels make the MECs very easy to use. All MECs are fitted with a brake release handle (dead man control handle), a standard feature. Once the MEC is released, it brakes automatically and thus ensures safe operation in any situation. Several MECs can be stored in the vehicle equipment compartments with minimum spacing requirements. A special locking system ensures that the MECs are firmly anchored in the vehicle. No movement is possible in locked condition and this both protects the equipment and reduces the injury risk. Accordingly, equipment can be brought directly to the emergency scene, quickly and in an orderly and space-saving manner.

5 Mobile equipment carriers Rosenbauer Accessories. The mobile equipment carriers can be quickly and simply loaded onto the vehicle by means of an integrated ramp. Tailor-made PVC tarpaulins protect the equipment against dirt and adverse weather conditions. For even easier operation, MECs can also be loaded and unloaded using lifting gates mounted on the vehicle. The appropriate ramps, e.g. for bridging steps which may be needed during operations, can also be fitted onto the MECs. In addition, the MECs are available with lifting eyes and are suitable and accredited for helicopter operation. 5
