1 Cambridge Isotope Laboratories, Inc. isotope.com New 13 C PACs (Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds) Benzo[j]fluoranthene CLM Benzo[c]fluorene CLM The advantages of 13 C-labeled over deuterated internal standards to improve the accuracy and lower detection limits in the analysis of polyaromatic compounds (PACs) have been documented many times over the years. The 13 C standards have a distinct advantage because they are not susceptible to deuterium back-exchange during extraction and cleanup, a phenomenon that can adversely affect recoveries when using deuterated standards. Benzo[b]furan CLM Benzo[c]phenanthrene CLM Cambridge Isotope Laboratories, Inc. (CIL) and Cerilliant have produced 13 C-labeled PACs since the mid-1990s. The core group of 16, based on poly cyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) targeted by the US EPA and the California Air Resources Board (CARB), were synthesized and formulated at that time. Since then, other groups have evaluated PACs (mostly PAHs) for toxicity and carcinogenicity; comparisons of some of the lists are summarized inside. These PAHs may become of greater interest to regulators as more is learned about their toxicity, carcinogenicity, bioaccumulative persistence and other factors that might make them be considered more harmful than previously thought. Cyclopenta[cd]pyrene CLM Dibenzo[a,l]pyrene CLM Dibenzo[a,h]pyrene CLM Methylchrysene CLM Based on these lists and customer input, CIL has undertaken further syntheses of the following 13 C PACs, with several more in development. Contact CIL for more information. Catalog No. Description Amount CLM Benzo[j]fluoranthene ( 13 C 12, 99%) CLM Benzo[c]fluorene ( 13 C 6, 99%) CLM Benzo[b]furan (carbocyclic ring- 13 C 6, 99%) CLM Benzo[c]phenanthrene ( 13 C 6, 99%) CLM Cyclopenta[cd]pyrene ( 13 C 6, 99%) CLM Dibenzo[a,h]pyrene ( 13 C 12, 99%) CLM Dibenzo[a,l]pyrene ( 13 C 6, 99%) CLM Methylchrysene ( 13 C 6, 99%) CIL has produced and is interested in producing other isotopically labeled PACs and other PAHs such as alkyl-pahs, halogenated- PAHs, hydroxy-pahs, amino-pahs, nitro-pahs and heteroaromatics. Please contact us with your suggestions and requests. For a full listing of CIL s 13 C-, deuterium-labeled and unlabeled polycyclic aromatic compounds, please visit isotope.com or view the PAC section of the 2015 Environmental Contaminants catalog.
