Manufacturing has been using common interfaces for decades Consider a car, you can use parts from a variety of manufacturers regardless of the manufacturer of the car wheel tyre battery radio light bulb This is because the interface how it fits is standardized 2

3 What is an Application Program Interface? We can do this with software Providing we have an Information Model So we can develop a common interface to the components of the model This an Application Programme Interface (API) Software can be written to use this API 3

4 What is the Common SDMX API? A set of interfaces that are adhered to by software that guarantee software interoperability A simple and faithful representation of the SDMX Information Model packaged in functional modules for reading, writing, querying, validating, storing, and retrieving data and metadata Insulates the software from the syntax and version implementation Implementations of these interfaces are available in both Java and.net that support all SDMX versions and syntaxes the software itself does not have knowledge of the versions and syntax except for the readers and writers it is simple to add new implementations to support new formats, even non-sdmx formats Data Writer API startseries writeserieskeyvalue writeattributevalue writeobservation 4
