1 icargo Newsletter 09/2013 Editorial Dear Madam / Sir, Intelligent Cargo in Efficient and Sustainable Global Logistics Operations (icargo), a 42 month EU project is approaching the end of the second period and it has passed the midpoint. In the project, so far we have designed architecture, components, applications and pilots, as well as we studied the market as is and to be cases. We also worked on an initial exploitation plan and definitions of products. From this point on we will be concentrating on the proof of innovations in icargo and the training, namely we will actually enter the phase of implementing the pilots. Servet Balcioglu ATOS Research & Innovation Contact: servet.balcioglu@atosresearch.eu icargo Project coordinator Training in icargo The training, as part of the work package eight Dissemination and Stakeholder Involvement, will aim to promote the use of the icargo results among the professionals and researches in the logistics arena, to raise awareness and to improve the professional development of the personnel concerned. To achieve this objective, the efforts until now have been mainly devoted to define the deliverable Training plan and courses definition. It is the first step in order to obtain the training of key staff of logistic services stakeholders, including research managers and industrial executives, in particular for SMEs. The training plan provides a detailed specification of the training contents, where the training sessions will be given, the target audience and the supporting material. In other words, the plan should mainly answer to the following three questions: - Who should be trained? - What will training be provided on? - When & where & who will deliver training? The main input to the training plan has been the needs expressed by the partners, through a poll that has been circulated among them. Training topics have been organised in four groups attending the intended audience, resulting in the fifteen courses gathered in the following table:
2 Benefit Case studies Introduction icargo ecosystem C1.1 Business processes design C1.2 Business Models in icargo C1.3 Assessment methodology C1.4 Implementation Case Studies icargo infrastructure & Integration with legacy systems C2.1 Semantics in icargo C2.2 Overcoming the challenges of using multimodal services C2.3 Planning Service C2.4 Monitoring Service C2.5 icargo Infrastructure - Architecture C2.6 Benefits of developing using the icargo platform What is the icargo platform? C3.1 What can I develop for the ecosystem? C3.2 Benefits of developing for the icargo platform C3.3 Defining icargo products/services C3.4 Developing for the icargo ecosystem Developing icargo services C4.1 Initially, the training events will focus more in theoretical aspects of icargo: Common Framework, architecture, business models, etc. The training on how to use the icargo system will be delivered something later, when the demonstrators are near to be ready (the implementation tasks of the three pilots in WP5 finish at M33). At the final stages of the project, hands-on training with the real pilots will be provided (the deployment and integration of the pilots in WP6 finishes at month M36). In order to evaluate the training sessions, a feedback questionnaire will be used. The questionnaire is divided into three parts: (i) General questions about the participant and his or her organisation (ii) The current systems in use in the company; (iii) The expectations from icargo. The outcome of this questionnaire will be mainly used to optimise the training efforts in future events. The first training is going to be delivered at ECITL 2013 (22-25 October, Zaragoza, Spain). It will consist of three sessions, with a mix of technical/business speeches that introduce the icargo ecosystem and a broader vision of the multi-modal logistic challenges: 1. Overcoming the challenges of using multi-modal services (IntelliTrans). There are many challenges that prospective customers will face & raise: long transit times, transit variability, etc. How these challenges will be overcome is crucial to success.
3 2. Introduction icargo ecosystem (Bluegreen). The goal is to explain icargo ecosystem from the business point of view, and the benefits of using it. 3. Defining icargo products/services (Bluegreen). The goal is to help with the definition of the product/service ideas: Identification of the customers in terms of LSCs, FSIs and LSPs; Finding out the implemented features and the overcome barriers of the proposed ideas; Analysis of the position of the ideas in the market and in comparison to the solutions offered by the competitors. Iñaki Etxaniz TECNALIA, Zamudio - Bizkaia (Spain) Contact: inaki.etxaniz@tecnalia.com icargo Workpackage 8 ECITL Conference The "European Conference on ICT for Transport Logistics" (short ECITL) is an international conference where professionals from industry and research from different European Research Projects in the area of logistics come together and exchange ideas. Initiated by the European Commission in 2008, this conference is a yearly event held at different locations. The great success of the conference and the active attendance of Europe s currently most advanced research projects in the field of efficient, sustainable and interoperable ICT systems make the ECITL conference to a very promising platform for the icargo project. Utilizing the strong contact points to the ECITL conference, icargo will step in as a main contributor for the 7 th edition: Date: 23 rd 25 th of October, 2013 Location: Aragon Institute of Technology Zaragoza (Spain) icargo contributions are: 23 rd of October 2013 Scientific Day: icargo training 14:00-15:15 h Training title: Overcoming the challenges of using multi-modal services Presenter: Ken Sherman (Intellitrans) 15:15-15:30 h ---- Coffee break :30-17:00 h Training title: Introduction icargo ecosystem Training title: Defining icargo products/services Presenter: Paolo Paganelli (Bluegreen strategy srl) 17:00-19:30 h Cultural Visit (Aljaferia Zaragozza) 19:30-open end Come together event
