In 2006, Kælismiðjan Frost established a partnership with P/F Frost in the Faeroe Islands. The sole purpose of this partnership is to give better service to the industrial market in the Faeroes. Watch and Monitoring Service Kælismiðjan Frost has designed, installed and serviced refrigeration systems for most of the largest fish processing plants, cold stores, ice plants, prawn factories and meat and dairy producers in the country, as well as a large number of fishing vessels. Partnership Kælismiðjan Frost Since the year 1993, Kælismiðjan Frost has been in the forefront in building and servicing cooling and refrigeration systems for all the major players in the Icelandic fishing and food processing industry. Today, Kælismiðjan Frost is by far Iceland s largest company in its field, with service departments in Akureyri and Reykjavík. We emphasise good service and advice our customers, both in choosing the right equipment for each task as well as in running the equipment in the most economical and productive way. We know that refrigeration system is a big investment for our customers, that it is vital for them that it runs smoothly and that any failures or breakdowns that might occur are dealt with promptly. Of course, we always take into account safety and energy efficiency as well as environmental issues. Kælismiðjan Frost has for years offered its customers a monitoring service, where equipment is monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The service is based on monitoring critical factors in the customer s equipment. If any of the monitored factors go outside the predetermined limits, the system will alert our service engineers over the Internet. Two service engineers, one in Akureyri and one in Reykjavík, are constantly on watch and can respond to any failures or abnormalities in the customers equipment right away. This service is well suited for big supermarkets as well as small stores or customers with just a single user, such as a cold store. It has been proven time and again that the monitoring system has prevented damage when failures have occurred outside normal working hours. Apart from the electronic surveillance, our service engineers can be called any time, day or night.

3 Although most of the projects have been in Iceland, Frost has taken on projects of this kind in various places in the world, such as Murmansk, Faeroe Islands and Africa to name a few. Insulation Land-based Processing Plants Kælismiðjan Frost ehf. has a transportable foam injector that is used to insulate pipes, enclose cavities or on open surfaces where polyurethane or similar is used for insulation. For years, Frost has insulated all refrigerating piping that it has installed. The pipes are clad with aluminium, and the insulation is injected in the space between pipe and cladding. With this method, economical running of the system is ensured, as is guaranteeing the long life of the piping system as well as meeting the strictest hygienic standards for food processing. In addition to refrigeration piping, foam injection is suited for insulation everywhere where liquid insulation can be applied, such as for piping for central heating, ships holds and tanks, airconditioning channels, pipes that are laid in the ground, on ceilings or walls and on similar surfaces. We have in resent years taken on a number of big contracting projects, both in Iceland and abroad. The projects have been for a wide range of customers working in; dairy industry, slaughterhouses, meat processing, supermarkets, whitefish plants, ships and for land based pelagic plants with capacity up to 500 tons in 24 hours. In these projects Frost has been in charge of the whole project from design to start up. The size of the company and number of experienced employees gives Frost the power to deliver big projects within a short period of time. Alignment of Machinery Complete solutions and contracting Kælismiðjan Frost has designed and installed refrigeration systems for a great number of landbased processing plants. The projects range from small whitefish plants with a capacity of 20 to 50 tonnes in 24 hours, to big pelagic plants with capacity of 400 to 600 tonnes in 24 hours. The pelagic plants use Samitech automatic horizontal plate freezers, which greatly reduces the number of employees needed for the processing. KælismiðjanFrosthasadvancedequipment to align machinery; the equipment is from the German company db Pruftechnik. The equipment consists of a laser meter, handheld data recorder and advanced analytic equipment that shows with easily read graphics what adjustments need to be done. The equipment is both easy and convenient to use and gives accurate and reliable results. Most compressor manufacturers recommend that the coupling between compressor and motor be aligned once a year. If this is followed, it reduces bearing load and increases the lifetime of bearings, couplings and seals, resulting in lower operating costs and preventing unexpected failures.

4 Belt Freezers The Advantech is a registered trademark for a band freezer that is specially designed to freeze thin products in a very short period of time. Originally, the freezer was designed to replace nitrogen freezers in hamburger production. The Advantech uses controlled streams of air to achieve the short freezing time. The short freezing time ensures small ice crystals in the product. The small ice crystals help to preserve the product s quality, as the cells in the product are not punctured by the ice crystals. This also means that drip loss is reduced when the product is thawing. Products and Spare Parts The Advantech is also well suited to super-chill fresh products before packing, i.e. freezing the surface of the product, thus storing energy in the product. This can increase the shelf life of fresh products by 5 to 20 days, depending on the product. Cold stores Industrial Wall Panels Kælismiðjan Frost ehf. has years of experience in designing and erecting refrigeration systems for cold stores. Frost has bean involved in building a number of big cold stores, both in Iceland and abroad. In addition to refrigeration systems, Frost can deliver complete solutions i.e. a complete building with all necessary equipment. Kælismiðjan Frost delivers industrial wall panels used for coolers, cold stores or as partitioning walls in food processing or industrial housing. The panels are sandwich panels with steel cladding on both sides and polyurethane (PUR, PIR) or rockwool insulation. The panels are delivered with all accessories for fastening and connecting to other structures. Prefabricated Cold Stores Prefabricated cold stores are well suited for preserving delicate products such as in restaurants, laboratories, pharmacies, hospitals, food processing, bakeries or in the home. Frost offers prefabricated cabins that are well suited to store relatively small quantities at a constant temperature. The cabins come in a standard height 2,100 mm, but the footprint can be adjusted to suit the customer s needs. The cabins are made from sandwich panels with a special cam-lock system to lock the panels together. This means that erection is simple and no special tools are needed to erect or dismantle the cabins. Frigoscandia IQF Freezers Frigoscandia is a leading brand name in IQF freezers. Kælismiðjan offers both spiral and belt freezers from Frigoscandia. Frigoscandia is a world leader in the development and production of IQF freezers and was the first to introduce an impingement freezer that is specially designed to freeze thin products in a very short period of time. Spiral Freezers Gyro or Spiral freezers are a known solution for IQF, freezing fish, meat and other food products. The Gyro or Spiral freezer gives the highest capacity per area, i.e. the footprint of the freezer is relatively small compared to its capacity. The Gyro freezers can be delivered with a capacity with a capacity starting from 250 kg per hour. Food Processing Equipment The food processing business has always been the backbone in our business. It is therefore with great pleasure that we have extended our range to offer Stein food processing equipment. Stein produces breading and battering lines, fryers and other equipment for production of ready-made meals and pre-cooked products. If our customers have specific products they want to try, we can offer them a trial production in the Frigoscandia / Stein test facilities in Helsingborg, Sweden. A complete line can be set up for making trial runs of the product in question and all the functions of the equipment.

Compressors In resent years, Kælismiðjan Frost has installed, in co-operation with Grasso, a great number of Grasso screw- and piston compressors. The Grasso compressors, offered in a wide range of capacity and usage, shows that they are reliable and economical in operation. The so-called Duo-pack solution, where two compressors are mounted on the same frame, is an option that is growing in popularity and has proven to be economical solution. Frost is the agent in Scotland for Howden Ldt., which manufactures compressor blocks and parts. Frost supplies Howden screw compressor units made by Norsk Kulde. As well as the above-mentioned compressor brands, Frost supplies and services equipment and parts from Johnson Control (Sabroe) in Iceland. Their main brands are Sabroe, Frick, Gram and Stål. There are hundreds of Sabroe compressors in Iceland; spares can be supplied from Frost s extensive stock or with short notice. Our service engineers have years of experience in servicing and overhauling York equipment, and they have attended several training courses at York to improve their skills and expertise.
