3 APICS TRAINING PROGRAM In partnership with APICS, Dawson College s Centre for Training & Development (CTD) has been the prime provider of the APICS courses since Courses are offered in English and CTD is proud to have always maintained the highest teaching standards and ensured the best combination of convenience and learning effectiveness. The attached brochure is meant to provide you with all pertinent information regarding the following training courses and workshops: PRINCIPLES OF OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT The series: 5 courses each of 11 weeks of 3 hours per week. The Essentials: 5 workshops of 6 hours each. Students wishing to enroll in any of the courses offered by the CTD can do so in person, online or by telephone. 4 PRINCIPLES OF OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT The Principles of Operations Management workshops and courses are for participants new to materials and operations management or people working in positions that interact with this field. PRINCIPLES COURSES The five-module format of the Principles courses teaches basic concepts, techniques, and terminology of materials and operations management. Principles of Inventory Management Participants are introduced to essential vocabulary and skills in identifying and applying the basic principles of inventory management. Basic methods of planning and controlling inventory in manufacturing, institutional, distribution, and retail environments are covered. The questions of what to stock are addressed through an examination of current and evolving technologies of inventory management. This course will impart a fundamental knowledge and understanding of inventory management principles and techniques, providing participants with a greater understanding of their roles and responsibilities in the control of inventory and the impact that inventory can have on a business. Principles of Operations Planning This course introduces participants to the principles of effective planning. The course presents the concepts of planning at each level, from strategic to tactical. Participants work together to solve problems, develop plans, build teams, and present solutions. Through this course, they learn the essential ingredients of effective planning and have an opportunity to practice and enhance their own planning skills. This course will impart a fundamental knowledge and understanding of basic operations planning principles and techniques that are used at each level of the planning process, providing practical examples and exercises that give participants an opportunity to improve their planning, teamwork, and presentation skills. 5 Principles of Manufacturing Management This course deals with priority and capacity management through the use of material requirements planning (MRP), capacity management, capacity requirements planning (CRP), production activity control (PAC), and Just-in-Time (JIT). This course explores the execution of the production plan and master production schedule, reactions to capacity constraints, and maintenance of individual order control. This course will impart a fundamental knowledge and understanding of priority and capacity management. Principles of Distribution and Logistics The Principles of Distribution and Logistics course introduces the foundations and operations of supply channel inventory, warehousing and transportation operations. Topics covered: - Distribution channel design - Inventory management - Distribution requirements planning (DRP) - Warehouse management - Packaging and material handling - Transportation management - Transportation operations Principles of Managing Operations This course is concerned with the design of systems to produce goods and services and the operation of those systems. It discusses relationships within the company environment, particularly with marketing and product design. Topics covered include facilities planning, total quality management (TQM), cost analysis, project planning, and operations resource management. This course will impart knowledge and understanding of operations resource management and the factors involved in designing and operating a production process. PAGE 3

6 PRINCIPLES WORKSHOPS The five-module format of the Principles workshops is a brief overlook at the, more in depth, Principles of Operations Management courses and will help students gain a firm understanding of the principles and functions, basic concepts, techniques, and terminology of materials and operations management. 10 REGISTRATION Participants may register up to ten (10) working days prior to the start of a course in any one of the following ways: In person: Register at the Centre for Training & Development at 4001 de Maisonneuve West, Room 2G.1, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. By Phone: Register by phone with the use of a MasterCard or Visa by calling Online: Register online with the use of a MasterCard or Visa at Members or Partner Members should then call our office with their membership number to receive a refund of the difference in price. Cancellations and Refunds CTD reserves the right to cancel in the event of low enrolment or other unforeseen circumstances; in any such cases, registration fees will be fully reimbursed. CTD does not accept any liability except for fees paid to Dawson College. In cases of cancellation, students will be notified electronically and by phone. Tuition fees will be fully refunded if the College receives written notification of a student s cancellation eleven (11) business days prior to the start of a course. 80% of the tuition fees will be refunded if students withdraw from a course and notify the College in writing before the beginning of the second class. No refunds on student manuals/textbooks/material. In all other cases, fees are not refundable. Receipts Participants may retain their Tuition Fees receipt for tax purposes. Official tax receipts will not be issued by the College. To ensure that receipts have the proper information, please notify the Centre for Training & Development of any address changes.
