1 Nuance Power PDF This document provides an overview of a new product offering and addresses frequently asked questions related to this new package. About Power PDF Nuance Power PDF is the next generation PDF solution that delivers performance, ease, and value as never before, freeing you from the compromises of traditional PDF applications. When the demands of business demand PDF, demand Nuance Power PDF. Problem: PDF is the standard format for business document collaboration. Yet, most business professionals lack adequate PDF power. The high price of Adobe Acrobat Professional makes powerful PDF software unobtainable for most while the limited capabilities of low priced alternatives leave users powerless. Those fortunate to have Adobe are frustrated by its complexity and unfamiliar interface. As a result, collaboration and productivity is hindered. Solution: PDF software that gives business users the features they need to be productive at a price that businesses can justify. Power PDF is high performance software with advanced features and user-friendly design that businesses and professionals demand. Nuance Power PDF Frequently Asked Questions What is Power PDF? The Business focused PDF Application from Nuance Communications, Inc. How much does power PDF cost? The retail price of Power PDF Advanced is and for Standard Volume pricing is available for Power PDF Advanced that provides better pricing for larger organizations What are the differences between Standard and Advanced? Primarily Advanced provides the batch capabilities, redaction and compliance checking. There are other features but these are the high level one. Refer to the comparison chart for specific differences. Why did you rename the PDF product? There were too many products with similar but conflicting names. Power PDF consolidates all of the products into a single brand with clear differentiation between the two variants Standard and Advanced

2 Will there be promotions for Power PDF Advanced? There will an upgrade promotion for Nuance customers that will allow them to purchase Power PDF Advanced at a special price. What are customers saying about Power PDF? There were only two products on the market that provided all the functions we needed - Acrobat and the Nuance product. So, one of the biggest values in my eyes is that Nuance offers a solution for almost all questions. Why is Power PDF the best alternative for business users? Uncompromised usability, MS Office based UI, controls located for fewest clicks to complete a task, 3 second startup speed, best in class workflow that can be applied to files folders or directories. Will I be able to buy Power PDF Advanced on the Nuance store or through Amazon? Power PDF Advanced will only be sold through the Nuance store. Promotions will be coordinated with other channel partners. Power PDF Advanced will not be available through retail or etail stores. There will be no web based ads promoting special prices for Advanced. Only Power PDF Standard will be sold through other retail and etail stores. Are there different support policies for Power PDF? For volume customers the level of support depends on the number of units that are purchased. Installations of less than 5 units are not eligible for support, installations of between 5 and 100 units are eligible for consumer level support and installations above 100 units are eligible for enterprise level support. When the customer purchases their support they will automatically receive the correct contact information for their support program. All M&S licensees are eligible for regular hotfixes for product bugs as well as new versions that are releases while their M&S is still current. How is the level of support determined when a purchase is of a small number but the customer has a large installed base? M&S costs are based on installed base. For example a customer with 96 units and has the lower tier M&S. If that customer purchased 10 more units their installed by is then 106. Not only will the cost of the seats they purchase be counted at the higher threshold, but they will also be eligible for the enterprise level support. What is a loyalty sku and who is eligible to purchase it? Loyalty skus are used for existing customers without a valid M&S contract. Nuance want to acknowledge the customers previous investment but we need to charge for the new license separate from their existing licenses. When they reestablish their license with Nuance they are eligible to purchase M&S at 15% of the net purchase of the loyalty skus. Which products are sold through which channels? Power PDF Advanced is sold through CAR, Distributors, and Nuance Store. MFP Alliance Partners may sell Power PDF advanced after they sign a new distribution agreement with Nuance. Power PDF Standard is sold through most channels including big box retail as well as Amazon. Standard will not be sold through the MFP Alliance Partners unless it is through a special OEM contract.

To Nuance workflow is the movement of documents from one location or format to another. For example transforming a paper document into a searchable, digital document that is placed in a specific location on the desktop or DMS. Other products do this but only Power PDF has the ability to do this on 100s of files at a time and through the use of a watched folder that can collect the content as it enters the system. What do you mean by Batch? Batches apply their commands to a group of files or folders. Power PDF has batch controls for converter and create, watched folders and combining commands together to form complex batch sequences. How can Power PDF help me with data governance controls? With Power PDF administrators can control the installer to limit the capabilities that are deployed on the desktop. In fact Power PDF is the only application that can be deployed in a completely read only mode preventing any changes to content of the file while preserving the ability to sign the file or comment on it. Is there a way to change the installer to give the end user fewer or more targeted questions during install? Yes the installer for Power PDF advanced has a customization kit that can reduce the number of choices during install or eliminate them all together. Why do we allow single unit purchases of Power PDF Advanced? There was a large customer demand for purchasing single units of PDF Converter but we did not support it with the OLP pricing model. The new model is more open and allow Nuance to address this customer need.

4 How are additional licenses added to an existing volume license? A customer wanting to expand their installed base can contact their CAR or distributor to pay for the new seats. The Nuance volume license program and the volume license key received is not specifically linked to the number of licenses purchased. A customer can simply deploy their existing installer to the seats they choose and use the same key on each What is the difference between The volume licensing program for Power PDF and the programs that were available in the past? The Volume licensing program is a WW program that allows all sales organizations to use the same volume bands to conduct business. This was a well investigated model that allows Nuance to competitively price Power PDF Advanced while providing a consistent way to report sales volumes WW. The volume program level is based on the number of seats purchased by the customer for the life of their engagement with Nuance. Why did the program change? For the most part the change is only apparent in the US. The US required two different programs to address the desktop market needs OLP and SLP. This cause confusion and price erosion when it came time to quote an order. The VLP program solves these problems. Will there be training for end users available? There will be video content available from the Nuance web site that will show a broad range of features. There is a training video available for external support reps and other that are interested in more structured training video. What resources will be available for sales and channel marketing organizations? There are FAQs, comparison charts, feature demonstration videos, end user presentations, pricing charts, a white paper, competitive charts available on the voice. MFP Related Questions The current MFP channel strategy: PowerPDF Advanced is replacing PDF Converter Enterprise. This product will be made available to the MFP Channel at the same trade discount that it will be offered to traditional core product distributors 24% off list. How is it different from eppo? How is it different from PDF Converter Professional/Enterprise? Power PDF is a replacement for the commercial version of Nuance s PDFConverter product line. It was developed to take advantage of the move to fully compliant Windows 7 environments in the enterprise. These are environments where Microsoft Office is the key application and any application that doesn t look and act like Office become an impediment to productivity. The ecopy product line is more focused on the set of users who are integrated with their MFP as an input device. The ecopy product line is focused on workflows that start as paper or images. While Power PDF carries on this heritage the focus is more toward authoring workflows than imaging workflows. What is happening to PDF Converter Professional/Enterprise? It is being replaced with Power PDF Std. and Advanced

5 Will PDF Converter Professional/Enterprise be available after the release of PowerPDF? If so, for how long? For a limited time, PDF Converter will continue to be sold after the Launch of Power PDF for several reasons. 1. There is existing stock in the channel that will need to attenuate 2. There will be customers that request PDF Converter over Power PDF due to trial studies and company requirements that might delay a purchase or deployment. 3. Orders will continue to be processed from quotes made prior to the announcement of Power PDF What is the product plan for eppo? Will it modified/revised? End of Sale? End of Life? At this time there are no plans to change the availability of EPPO to the MFP channel. There is a lot of work to do bring Power PDF to this channel and there is no reason to discontinue EPPO before that work is complete. Bug fixing will continue, enhances may be applied to the exiting eppo product line. There may be another release in the future depending on the acceptance of Power PDF. No EOL plans are in place today none are planned at this time. Why are you not planning to update eppo? Nuance will maintain eppo in accordance with our M&S agreements. However there are no planned updates at this time. What should we (MFP Partners) tell our existing eppo customers to do? Continue to purchase eppo? Purchase PowerPDF? Is there a Upgrade offer? There aren t any MFP partners with a license to sell Power PDF at this time. When they do come to terms to sell Power PDF we would expect them to replace eppo in their channel because it s a superior product. Why is our discount on PowerPDF not the same as our discount for eppo? eppo was a product that was distributed solely through the MFP Partner Channel. PowerPDF is distributed in the broader Enterprise software channels, i.e. the PDF Converter Professional/Enterprise channels as well as through the Nuance Store. Given the breadth of the offering and the similarity of the product line favoring one channel over the other did not make sense for the new product offering. MFP Partners are in the distributor class of trade or at a 24% discount. Other partners like a corporate reseller such as CDW would purchase at a lower discount (20%). That is a significant reduction in discount from what we purchase today. Why should we pay more for PowerPDF than for eppo? Yes, the trade discount points are lower. Depending on your eppo agreement you may or may not be paying more. The important thing is you are on a level playing field with the rest of the channel in your class of trade (Distribution) for this new product. You are neither advantaged or disadvantaged from a discount point of view. But if I can pay less to resell eppo, why should I sell PowerPDF? You may choose to continue to sell eppo as long as it is available, but your customers may prefer to purchase PowerPDF over time. Are you encouraging me to become a distributor of PowerPDF? Yes, we think it makes good business sense for you to do so? Can I continue to sell eppo until end of sale? Yes.

6 What if I choose not to become a distributor for PowerPDF? If you customers want to purchase PowerPDF, you can still resell it and source it from other distributors (Ingram etc.) So I can SKU it and resell it without becoming a distributor? Yes, but you will have to pay whatever the distributor charges you for it. Nuance asked me to sell ecopy Desktop, then Paperworks, then eppo and now PowerPDF. We recommended these products in good faith. We put our customers into these products, but now the trade terms seem to have become less favorable. What should we make of this? What should we tell our customers? Is there an bridge to the new technology that makes financial sense to us and them? Power PDF is not a one for one replacement for the current products in the market and is not available as an upgrade through your EPPO M&S agreement. We have revised our trade terms on this product line in the hopes of leveling out the channel and eliminating channel conflict across our entire business. eppo is still a available for ecopy customers and better than products from other companies, We will be announcing a Nuance Loyalty offer for those eppo customers who want to move to PowerPDF. This will be available to each alliance partner after they agree to the new terms of distribution for Power PDF.
