2 I. OVERVIEW What is Demandware s relationship with Pinterest? In June 2015, Demandware announced a partnership with Pinterest to enable Demandware clients to deliver Pinterest Buyable Pins in Pinterest s mobile apps. After a period of limited availability, Buyable Pins will be available, as of January 28, 2016, to all Demandware clients for implementation in their environment. What are Buyable Pins? Buyable Pins allow consumers to purchase pinned products directly through the Pinterest ios and Android application through a Buy it button. Demandware has partnered with Pinterest as an enterprise cloud commerce partner to enable Buyable Pins for Demandware clients. What devices are supported? Buyable Pins functionality is enabled in Pinterest s ios and Android apps devices to retailers selling in the US only. Why is Demandware integrating with Pinterest? We re in a time of profound change in the retail industry. The surge in mobile commerce, new transactional platforms, alternative payment types, shared economy applications and innovations in fulfillment are just some of the things providing retailers with opportunities to grow their business. The result of these many advancements is that the consumer has gained more control over her own destiny including discovering new passions and products in places like Pinterest that are not directly controlled by the retailer. This democratization effect represents enormous upside for retailers who embrace it. Pinterest, a visual bookmarking tool, has more than 100 million monthly active users. 87% of Pinterest users have reported as making a purchase because of something they saw on Pinterest. These users represent an attractive target market for online retailers, who seek to translate that scaled, active consumer engagement directly into online commerce. Through this integration, Demandware is enabling its customers to proactively deliver on their social strategies through their existing platform- the Demandware Commerce Cloud. Demandware customers are harnessing the best of both worlds: they are leveraging the Pinterest application to drive conversion without losing the connection to a central commerce platform.
3 II. HOW IT WORKS How does the integration work? Who handles fulfillment, customer service, etc.? The merchant owns the relationship with the customer including all aspects of fulfillment and customer service just as they would with any order from their site. How do returns work? The return process is established and handled by the merchant and should follow the same process as any order placed through the merchant s site. Will multiple SKU orders be permitted? No. The consumer experience is based on discovery of a pinned product and checkout occurs natively within the Pinterest app. No traditional basket is created to which multiple products can be added. What payment methods are supported? Major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover) and Apple Pay are supported. Private label credit cards, gift cards, and PayPal are not supported. Do I need to currently support Apple Pay in order to enable the Apple Pay checkout option with the Pinterest app? No. Merchants do not need to support Apple Pay, as the handling of the Apple Pay payload occurs within the Pinterest App, and the resulting information (DPAN + cryptogram) is passed to Demandware (through a secure https connection) for processing by their existing payment
4 processor as a tokenized transaction. It is necessary, however, that the processor is able to process this type of tokenized transaction and that the payment gateway (if one is used) is able to transmit the required information to your processor. Each merchant will need to confirm the ability of their processor to support Apple Pay. III. MERCHANT AND CONSUMER EXPERIENCE What is the experience for the consumer? The front-end user experience takes place in the Pinterest application. Buyable Pins are created when products are included in the merchant s product feed sent to Pinterest. As soon as a consumer hits the Buy it button, Pinterest sends the purchase information, via OCAPI, to a merchant s Demandware instance for charge, customer communication, and fulfillment processes similar to all other ecommerce orders. The experience for the consumer is the same as if they purchased directly from the merchant site. What is the experience for the merchant? The retailer remains the merchant of record throughout the entire purchasing process and never loses the relationship with the consumer. The order is captured and processed through Demandware the same way a direct order would be processed.
5 IV: GETTING STARTED: CONTRACTS, CONTACTS AND PROCESSES AND IMPLEMENTATION Who do I engage with to get started? To get started with Pinterest Buyable Pins, consult first with your Demandware Customer Success Manager. He/she will put you in contact with the correct representative from the Pinterest team. What additional documentation or actions are required by the merchant for implementation? - All Demandware clients who want to implement Pinterest Buyable Pins must: o Set up a business account with Pinterest A business account is free to set up at o Sign a contract with Pinterest - Pinterest also requires that all clients interested in Buyable Pins provide a PCI Attestation of Compliance (AoC). Please note that receiving this document could take up to xxx months so plan early. How do I get the cartridge? The Demandware-built cartridge is available in Demandware s LINK marketplace and in Demandware s XChange online collaboration platform. What is the level of effort for implementation? To help clients plan for proper resources for their Pinterest cartridge implementation, Demandware has put together the following estimated project timeline. Please note that each implementation is unique and that these numbers represent an estimated scope of effort for each phase of the implementation. These numbers may vary from merchant to merchant. The total estimated implementation time to plan for is hours. The breakdown of this time is the following: Product Feed creation: hours Merchant onboarding: 8 hours OCAPI Hook development: hours Production end to end testing: 40 hours Does Demandware offer implementation services? Demandware clients have three options for implementation:
6 - Engage SI partner. Consult your Customer Success Manager for a list of Demandware LINK Solution Partners with experience integrating partner technologies with the Demandware Commerce Cloud. - In-house development resources (implementation guide is available here.) - Demandware service package- contact your Customer Success Manager for more information. Is there a fee for the cartridge? No. Demandware is not charging a fee for the cartridge, and Pinterest is not charging a fee for the service. That is part of the partnership relationship between Pinterest and Demandware. Does this affect a customer s MSA with Demandware? No. This integration does not effect a customer s agreement with Demandware, and no additional agreements or forms are required of merchants by Demandware to enable these capabilities. Do customers need to sign a contract with Pinterest? Yes. Participating Demandware customers will be required to enter into a commercial relationship with Pinterest and sign the Pinterest Merchant Terms of Service. Who will provide support for the merchant enabled cartridge? The merchant or their SI will need to implement and support the merchant specific changes to the cartridge. Demandware will provide support and maintenance for the cartridge code, which has been developed following the LINK Technology integration/cartridge approach. V. SUPPORT If I have a problem with the cartridge who should I contact for support? Contact Demandware Support with any questions related to the integration code and cartridge provided by Demandware. Contact your development team or SI partner with any questions related to customerspecific implementation code. Contact Pinterest with any questions related to Buyable Pins, promotion of Pins, etc.
