2 Innovative technology for Background About Banco Popular Founded on the 14th of July 1926, Banco Popular is the parent company of a banking group with a purely financial focus. Its main business comprises of commercial and retail banking, aimed at providing a complete financial service, with particular emphasis on SMEs, as well as private customers. Other lines of activity, such as investment or wholesale banking, are aimed at satisfying its commercial customers requirements. The Group is formed by the parent company; Banco Popular, a regional bank; Banco de Andalucia, Banco Popular Portugal, Totalbank (which operates in the State of Florida, in the United States of America), as well as other banks and financial services companies. The Company s basic concept is financial personalisation and for this reason, due to its approachability and accessibility, the Bank considers the commercial branch network as the main and most direct communication channel with its customers. In order to provide greater coverage to its customers, the Group has 2,504 branches, of which 2,255 are located in Spain, 235 in Portugal and 14 in the U.S.A. In today s world, modern consumers are familiar with new commercial ways of operating that have been evolving over the years. Currently, products sale and service provision are promoted in innovative surroundings, which must be specifically designed and equipped with the right resources to offer a unbeatable brand experience. The Banco Popular s commercial strategy has always been aimed at customer satisfaction. However, in today s competitive environment, it is only the most innovative financial institutions who achieve the balance between offering their customers the most beneficial products and services whilst also establishing relationships based on trust. Therefore, the Group s challenge consisted of breaking down the rigid barriers from the past to evolve an approach totally focussed on customer service. As Luis Álvarez Martin, Marketing and Channels Manager for Banco Popular Group explains, Our customers demand something different from what has been offered to them in other bank branches. People no longer only go to the Bank just because they want to manage their accounts, they go when they need advice of a very different nature and they need to trust their financial services provider. Once they are in the branch, they do not want to wait in queues. For these reasons, the Group decided to launch the brand PopularMax, a new type of bank branch concept that has been used as a platform for the Bank s new distribution strategy. It has meant redesigning their branch spaces in an innovative way, to provide customers with access to versatile professionals who provide a complete, high quality service within their multi-service offer. Banco Popular holds third position in the national ranking for assets turnover, amongst the Spanish banking groups (fifth, if savings banks are included). The Group is considered to be the one of the most efficient in Europe, in terms of percentage of revenue compared to costs, making it a reference model for other banks in Europe.

3 a new branch concept The right partner Banco Popular chose Glory Global Solutions as the ideal partner to enable them to obtain a greater customer base and to also achieve improved management of their branches, using an advanced teller automation solution that provides ease of use and efficiency in their branch operations. The new branch concept PopularMax represents an initiative in R+D+I, which will be used to implement a new retail banking concept in the Spanish market. This project is not only an aesthetic and decorative exercise, but rather a change in the way services are delivered to customers. Glory has successfully implemented this project in PopularMax branches, with the style and innovative design of the Vertera recycler lending itself to the open plan and functional space of Banco Popular s branches; all of this within a highly avant-garde philosophy. Vertera teller cash recycler The Vertera teller cash recycler from Glory represents a significant evolution in teller automation technology, enabling financial institutions to focus on service excellence together with increasing customer engagement. The Vertera series builds directly on the reputation of the leading cash recycling system the pioneering and highly acclaimed TCR Twin Safe. The Vertera, however, offers significantly enhanced banknote authentication, increased performance and the ability to drive down operational cost all in a compact device that is easily incorporated into the branch. The Vertera delivers real business benefit at multiple levels and provides a comprehensive and integrated solution to address the demands of the customer, the teller and improvements in branch efficiency.

5 Adding value The agility of the branch has also been improved by using the latest technological advances. The Glory Vertera teller cash recycler is a flexible solution that allows customers requirements to be met at the same time as maximising branch performance. With this project, Banco Popular has completely fulfilled its objectives: high technology linked to a latest generation design, decreasing queues at the teller position, aiding interaction with customers and making transactions within the branch more fluid. The Bank has also managed to reduce the monotonous, repetitive tasks tellers used to undertake, that provided no added value, resulting in a positive impact both on their health and safety. The Vertera recycler is designed with the highest ergonomic standards; it promotes optimal working positions and reduces the need to perform repetitive activities frequently, both factors which contribute to in increased employee performance and efficiency. The Vertera recycler has an ergonomic design that perfectly fits underneath the modern counter-tops in the PopularMax branches and it aids interrelations between the cash tellers and customers. In our search for excellence in customer services, employees are equipped with the Glory Vertera recyclers for handling cash, which as well being a significant evolution in teller automation technology, also represents Banco Popular Group s commitment to the health and safety of its employees.
