4 TETRA PAK AS A CHAMPION STATE APPROACH Tetra Pak has invested in a state approach of collaborative project development with a goal of increased recycling. In each case, Tetra Pak rallied a team of regional partners. North Carolina, 2013 to 2014 Business leaders collaborated to educate the Governor s Office on the importance of recycling to the local economy. Tennessee, 2014 to 2016 CART initiative Tetra Pak is eager to work with all players to set a realistic, strategic recovery plan for Tennessee, and to determine the right mix of public/private investment to put that plan into action. 5 CART MISSION STATEMENT & GOALS The mission of CART is to accelerate recovery of high value recyclable materials through collective voluntary industry action. The specific goals of CART are to: 1. Increase recycling access to improve materials recovery in key metropolitan areas in the state. 2. Raise awareness of the economic value of strong recycling programs among state and local leaders, including elected officials, community leaders, and local governments.

7 CART PROJECT APPROACH Provide mentorship and education to form network of municipal champions and develop strategic partnerships. Conduct recycling best practice gap analysis to identify priority projects for optimizing efficiency. Increase recycling access to improve materials recovery in key metropolitan areas in the state. Provide a regional system blueprint for how more materials can be recovered efficiently and sustainably. 7
8 METHODOLOGY Conduct recycling best practice analysis to take a data driven snapshot and understand biggest opportunities. 1. Build from AMERIPEN best practices work 2. Customize and adapt survey tool to align with Tennessee s Solid Waste and Materials Management Plan objectives 3. Communicate with regional champions and other local government contacts 4. Compile and analyze data 5. Develop Recycling Opportunity Assessment Summary based on data analysis 8
