METAL SHEATH TYPE ASSEMBLIES Pges A- through A- of this ctlog del with metl sheth type thermocouple ssemblies. Sndelius metl sheth type thermocouples represent the current stte-of-the-rt in thermocouple probe technology. The outside metl sheth protects both the thermocouple conductors nd the compcted mgnesium oxide (MgO) insultion from potentil dmge nd filure cused by corrosion, contmintion, oxidtion or mechnicl shock. Metl sheth type ssemblies re esy to work with nd instll. The sheth mteril cn be bent to rdius equl to pproximtely twice its dimeter without dmge. It mintins its shpe fter bending llowing it to be formed to fit ny ppliction. The rugged, gs-tight nture of the metl sheth mkes gs-tight seling simple mtter even without the use of thermowell or protecting tube. When used inside thermowell or protecting tube, the metl sheth protects the conductors from oxidtion nd provides n dded mrgin of protection without pprecible loss of response time. RTD ASSEMBLIES Sndelius Instruments, Inc. lso mnufctures full line of RTD ssemblies. Any of the ssembly styles described in this brochure cn be modified to incorporte n RTD element in plce of the thermocouple element. Testing hs proven tht these springs will not slip in service even when subjected to tempetures of over 00º F. ) While Style A ssemblies cn be spring-loded, we recommend the use of Style A ssemblies with strnded ledwires for spring-loding. ) When spring-loding either A or A Style ssemblies, it is good prctice to loop the conductors before ttching them to the terminl block. This process forms mesuring junction which is n integrl prt of the end cp nd electriclly grounded to the sheth. The most common junction style, grounded junctions protect the thermocouple conductors from contmintion nd offer fst response times. Order Symbol: G-Single or Dul Element R-REMOTE OR UNGROUNDED END CAP INSULATION SHEATH CUT AWAY VIEW The conductors re first junction welded together. Prior to cp welding the sheth, the junction is covered with insulting mteril to insulte it from the sheth nd end cp. Remote junctions protect the thermocouple conductors from both contmintion nd outside electricl interference. They re used whenever electricl isoltion of the element is desirble. The exposed insultion is seled ginst moisture penetrtion. Exposed junctions provide the fstest possible response times but do not offer protection to the thermocouple conductors. 4 FURNACE TUBE TEMPERATURE THERMOCOUPLES Whenever thermocouple must be welded in plce it is dvisble to use weld pd nd weld clips to protect ginst burn-through of the sheth mteril during field instlltion. Sndelius weld pds, weld clips nd weld pd covers re vilble in wide rnge of styles nd mterils. Stndrd W, W nd W style weld pds mesure / x / x /8. Inconel 600 or 0SS hve proven to be excellent choices for most furnce pplictions. Other mterils re vilble on request.
