2 INVITATION Dear Colleagues, International Committee for Study of Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium (ICSOBA) and Mineral Information and Development Centre (MIDC) have great honour to announce The XVIII International Symposium of ICSOBA on Overview of Bauxite, Alumina and Aluminium Industry worldwide with special reference to China to be held in Zhengzhou, China from November 25 to 27, ICSOBA was founded in 1963 by the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts (presently the Croatian Academy) ably supported by the Hungarian Mining and Metallurgical Society (OMBKE). The objectives of ICSOBA are to promote the exchange of ideas and results of work from different fields of research related to bauxite exploration and exploitation, alumina and aluminium production, by organizing conferences and symposia, field trips to important mines and plants and publishing the technical journal, Travaux de L'ICSOBA. In the span of the last 46 years, ten meetings of International Congress and seventeen International symposia were organized in venues located in Europe, Canada, Jamaica, Brazil and India. The organization has members from countries all over the world. In keeping with the shift of focus of bauxite, alumina and aluminium related activities to the Asian and Australian regions, it was decided by the ICSOBA General Assembly in November 2008 to relocate the Secretariat in Nagpur India and to hold the next technical meeting in China. Objectives of the Symposium: To review the present status of bauxite, alumina and aluminium industries in the world with special reference to CHINA. To discuss promising research developments for improved production and productivity in the existing bauxite mines, alumina and aluminium plants. To highlight proposed Greenfield activities of aluminium industry. To discuss problems related to environment and safety considerations. To discuss marketing aspects of bauxite, alumina and aluminium and their products. The XVIII International Symposium ICSOBA-2010 will be held with support of Zhengzhou Research Institute, CHALCO (Aluminium Corporation of China Limited) There will be a special session devoted to The future of alumina production organized by ALCOR. We invite you, dear colleagues, to participate and present papers in the International Symposium "ICSOBA " on topic of your interest or field of work, from amongst the wide-ranging objectives of the symposium mentioned above. The recent closure of high cost alumina plants has increased the future requirement for new, low cost bauxite mines and alumina refineries. Alcor is organizing a special session, The future of alumina production, to review structural developments that impact on these greenfield projects. The session reviews how recent technologies impact on bauxite deposit selection and on refinery operating and capital costs. Also structural changes in technology supply and project financing will be reviewed. The session will demonstrate how these structural changes facilitate the formation of new alumina producers. A special Poster Session will be organized for young specialists and students to present their poster papers. 3
